How do I uninstall Bootcamp? Will I mess it up if I do so?

I had to install Bootcamp so I could run a required, Windows-based program for my school.  Now they (finally!) have a secure browser for Mac and I'd like to uninstall Bootcamp so I can have the disk space back.  I've heard that it's difficult/not great to uninstall it and that I risk losing all my data by doing so.
Anyone have any experience doing this?  Suggestions?
Thanks!

In addition to the above, back up your data first, and if the computer was set to boot into Windows by default, change the setting in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.

How can I uninstall Bootcamp and recover the partition for the IMac HD?

Boot into OSX.  Go back into the Bootcamp utility in the Utilities folder and re-run it.  It will give you the option to remove the Windows partition and make the OSX partition fill the whole drive again.  OSX will NOT be lost in the process.  No re-installing necessary.  Only takes a few minutes or less to complete.

    Hi,
I'm not sure what you mean by "Airport Extreme" - if by that you mean 802.11n then
you'll be looking at either a usb dongle (not sure if there are any with mac drivers out yet) or a wireless bridge.
That may be your best bet since OS X will just think you're using the ethernet socket (no drivers required).
I.e. there is no software update that will give you 802.11n as you G4 has a hardware limit of 802.11b/g.

  • How do you uninstall bootcamp?

I've installed bootcamp on my mac running Linux, but I've decided I don't want it. How do I remove it?

Use Boot Camp Assistant to make or remove a Boot Camp partition. This may not work because you installed Linux rather than Windows. Let us know if it doesn't.

  • Please Help: How to uninstall Bootcamp 2.0 so I can reinstall it?

    Hi,
OK. So the Bootcamp 2.1 update is not working for me. My last resort is to uninstall Bootcamp 2.0 and reinstall it from the Leopard disks. Some people have said that they have done that and were then able to install Bootcamp 2.1.
So how do I uninstall Bootcamp 2.0? Do I do that from the Windows side or Mac OS X side? I am thinking I need to do that from the Mac OS X side because all there is with Windows is Boot Camp Services. But I want to make sure.
Also, if I do uninstall, will I lose my current Windows Vista 32-bit partition?
    Thanks.

I tried that. It removes the Boot Camp tool from the system tray, but it does not return XP to the state it was in before the Boot Camp install. Video, sound, network, and other drivers installed by Boot Camp are still working. At least that was my experience.

  • Uninstall BootCamp gain back partition?

If I uninstall BootCamp, will I gain the partition back?
Do I first have to uninstall Windows before I uninstall BootCamp?
    Thank you!

There really isn't such a thing as "uninstalling" Windows. If you want the volume back then go into Boot Camp in OS X and "Restore" the volume. That will remove the Boot Camp partition. Also, Uninstalling Boot Camp will have no affect affect on the partition. Remember Boot Camp is not creating a virtualization of Windows.

  • How do I uninstall Yosemite please ? Since I upgraded my 2011 MacBook Pro will not boot up

My 2011 MacBook Pro will not boot up following my upgrade to Yosemite. How do I uninstall or downgrade back to the previous version of OS please ?

You can't downgrade or uninstall unless you first erase the drive. Try the following:
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
    Also see:
Reinstall OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Choose the version you have installed now:
OS X Yosemite- Reinstall OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

I used to work on my 3000 photos with GIMP on a P.C, but since I had a breakdown, I would like to carry on on my Mac as soon as possible.
Figuring out unaided a new OS after a breakdown is the best prescription for another breakdown.
Before going back to editing your photos, I suggest you need to familiarise yourself with your new OS. Get a book (eg, David Pogue's "Missing Manual…") -- now, that Lion's been out and about for some time, you can probably get the Snow Leopard (aka Mac OS X v10.6) edition at a discount. Take the time to read it and understand it, and you'll spare yourself a mountain of frustration. There are enough similarities between Mac OS X and Windows to fool you into believing almost everything works the same way, when, of course, it doesn't -- many similarities are only skin-deep.
Once you've done that, you'll be in a better position to install and use GIMP or look for alternatives.
where do I find the exact version (in french)
For French issues, you are probably better off checking the forums on MacBidouille or MacGeneration.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

I own an iPhone 4S and have installed ios8. Subsequently none of my apps will work. How do I uninstall and go back to the previous operating system?

Good luck at the Genius bar.
I have figured out that if I do a hard restart of the phone the apps will work for a time, but then they begin to all freeze up again after a short time.
This may be a problem of not enough free storage. Have you checked the storage used by your apps?
Go to Settings > General > Usage

  • How do I uninstall iPhoto and reinstall from the APP Store? I already own it, but it will not open now.

I have the latest version of iPhoto installed, but it will not open now. An earlier error message prompted me to update to the latest version, which I have. How cna I uninstall and reinstall this APP that I aleady own?
    Thanks - David

Fixing that does not require reinstalling the iPhoto Application - it requires correct library issues
What exactly happens? What version of iPhoto do you have installed (in teh finder select it in the Applications folder and get info)?
If it iPhoto '11 version 9.5.1 then Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database

  • I uninstalled bootcamp but when my MacBook Pro starts up, I still have to press "alt/option" when the screen goes grey. Otherwise, a black windows screen pops up. What am I doing wrong?

At one point in time, I believe I had attempted to install bootcamp on my MacBook Pro. My university support center said that I had to press "alt/option" when starting up everytime, otherwise it would be a black windows screen and I had no idea where to go from there. (So I never was able to fully utilize the Bootcamp application. Unfortunately, even after I uninstalled bootcamp, this is still happening. How do I fix this? Thank you.

You should have asked us and looked at 10 posts a week -- same as yours.
OS X: System Preferences: Startup Disk control panel
    Set and done!
x = Mac OS X on startup also
And no to needing to hit Option every time. Obviously they never actually booted and used Mac.
All it was is the startup parameter was saved and still set to look for a partition that does not exist and got lost.
ZAP PRAM is also helpful but you would still use Startup Disk.
About This Mac.... More... will also take you to control panels (why System Prefs if they are control panels? to be different?) as well as S.P. from the Dock

  • How do I uninstall (& reinstall) Firefox when WinXP won't let me?

Using Win XP. I want to uninstall and reinstall Firefox because of an unwanted search engine app. I first uninstalled Firefox maintenance. Now XP won't let me uninstall Firefox. The control panel quickly flashes a screen but won't proceed with the uninstall. I tried instantiating maintenance from within the folder on my C drive but no response. I suspect by removing the "maintenance" app I've tied my own hands. Thanks for your help.

Hi marvinglen, <br/>sorry that you are having problems sorting-out Firefox.
I am not sure that ''Firefox Maintenance'' has much of an effect on Windows XP
    * see [[What is the Mozilla Maintenance Service?]]
Uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox may be ineffective in removing an unwanted search engine app. It depends rather on what it is you have that you are now trying to remove. Some of these search helpers etc install globally within Windows and will need to be removed from the Windows control panel once you identify them.
Whatever you do I strongly suggest you do NOT use any option from Windows or Firefox that offers to remove personal settings, because that is likely to destroy settings including bookmarks and passwords. (If you see the ResetFirefox option also do not use that, without first taking note of what it removes - all your extensions, and some settings)
Once any rogue software is uninstalled you will need to reset any Firefox settings that have been messed up, but there is an add-on that is often capable of accomplishing that easily.
    * see [[Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page]]
** and consider use of https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/
Please read the linked articles and post back with how you get on, and say specifically what it is you have found and are trying to remove.
