  • How can I get the old view of iCal back on my MacBook Pro and iPhone?

How can I get the old view of iCal back on my MacBook Pro and iPhone?  The Mavrick version is crisp and clean but a colored dot is not the same as a highlighted word. I rely on my iCal on my MacBook Pro and iPhone 5 to help me track which of the 8 sites I visit for my job during the week - the color coding is (was key) to organizing and tracking meetings.  I hate the upgrade!

If purchased through the Mac App Store then it can be installed on up to five authorized CPUs. Otherwise, it's controlled by the license that came with the software.
To install on another computer copy the downloaded installer application to the other computer.

In previous version of ISO it was easy to turn-off the opened apps by double clicking on home button and then click and hold on respective apps then click on cross sign but in this version I could not do so and my iPad appears slower.

    Close inactive apps
    1. Double tap the home button to bring up the multi-tasking view
    2. Swipe the app's windows upwards to close
    3. The app will fly off the screen

  • How to get pics in the iphoto app for iphone back onto my macbook pro

I need to know how to get my pics that are stored on iphone in the "iphoto app for iPhone" back onto my macbook pro's iphoto. macbook was recently wiped out (i didn't back up) during Genius Bar repair

    See this support article  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
The safest way would be to share all photos that are in iPhoto albums to the Camera Roll. When you connect the iPhone to your Mac and open iPhoto you can download the contents of the Camera Roll just like from any camera.

  • How can I shut off the automatic login when I turn on my MacBook Pro?

Ever since I updated to Yosemite I have been forced to enter my password whenever I turn on my MacBook Pro. I went to System Preferences/Users & Groups and see that the automatic login option is set to off, but it is shaded and I can't use the dropdown menu, even though I've unlocked it.
Is this a common issue? Am I just going to have to get used to signing in every time? I'm the only one who uses it, and it's a little annoying.
I've tried searching for help in the discussions and also on google, but I'm not finding any answers.
    Help, please!

Did you turn on FileVault when you upgraded to Yosemite? If it is on then a login password is required (sort of obviously). You can tell whether it is on by going to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Security & Privacy and click FileVault at the top and see if the words "Turn off FileVault" are in the button. I'm the only one who uses my Mac also, but the remote possibility of it being stolen makes it worth it to me to have FileVault turned on and a password required. • How do I transfer my entire old hard drive contents to my new macbook pro?

So I'm planning on upgrading from my normal Macbook to a Macbook Pro, but I don't want to lose any info or files. Can apple help me transfer my files? Or should I do it myself?
If I do it myself, what program, or steps should I use to do it safely to ensure I don't lose anything?
    Thanks!

    Here's how:
Get a Firewire cable. With both computers turned off connect the two with the Firewire cable. Boot the PB into Target Disk Mode. After the TDM screen appears on the PB boot the MBP normally. The PB's hard drive should appear on the MBP's Desktop. You can then transfer the needed files using Drag and Drop.
Here is a list of where your important data is stored ("~" stands for "Home"):
In your Home folder copy the contents of Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites.
    In your ~/Library/ folder:
~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)
~/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
Also in ~/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need)
    ~/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder)
    ~/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder)
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist (* This is a very important file which contains all email account settings and general mail preferences.)
~ /Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder)
~ /Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
    If you want cookies:
    ~/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist
    ~/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
    For Entourage users:
Entourage is in ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data
    Also in ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft

  • How do I automatically log the battery percentage and time on my Retina Macbook Pro to an excel spreadsheet? (OSX 10.9.4)

    Hello! So I own a 13" rMBP, and I'm running OSX 10.9.4.
How do I log my battery percentage with the date, probably down to the hour, preferably to an Excel file?
I want to track the rate at which my battery discharges, so that in the future I can compare the present rate of discharge with the past and see exactly how much my battery has deteriorated by. I'll take averages over long periods of time to account for, e.g. the fact that watching Netflix drains my battery faster than editing an essay. I also want a solution that uses negligible power in the background.
I've spent hours looking for an app that both calculates the rate of discharge and keeps all data, but I haven't found any. Eventually I decided that hopefully it isn't too difficult to write an AppleScript or something that simply logs the system clock and battery percentage in tandem every hour or so.
    Thank you for your time!
    Herman

    What Barney said.
Here is the script to create a CSV text file with
    Date
    Time
Current Battery Percentage as an integer
    #!/bin/bash
    batterycsv="$HOME/battery.csv"
    export GREP_OPTIONS="--color=never"
    # if you want the percentage sign too, exclude the second egrep
    battpct=$(pmset -g ps | egrep -o "(\d+)%" | egrep -o "\d+")
    datetime=$(date "+%Y-%m-%d %H:%M")
    printf "%s,%s,%s\n" $datetime $battpct >> $batterycsv
Output on a fully charged MacBook Air to battery.csv will be individual lines of the following format:
    2014-08-09,19:49,100

  • How can i delete the duplicate pictures and movie clips on my macbook pro

how can i delete all the duplicate pictures and movie clips on my macbook pro. it is telling me i have no memory

By 'no memory' may I assume you are out of space on your hard drive?
Obviously you can delete them one by one, but this is tedious and will take a long time and you wish to do this quickly and efficiently.
This is my suggestion and it may not be worth a lot:
If all of your duplicates have a unique characteristic common to them that the originals do not, this MIGHT work.  For example if you make a duplicate of an image, it will have the same title as the original, but will insert the word 'copy' in its' title.  (It should do some thing similar with movie clips).
Go to Spotlight in System Preferences.  Click on Privacy (near the top of the pane) and then the + sign (near the lower left hand corner).  This will result in a drop down menu.  Select all the places you do not want Spotlight to search.  You should leave only Music and Movies unless you have pictures/movie clips in other places.
Enter into spotlight the unique characteristic (ie; copy) and it should (I hope) list all your duplicates.  Perform a Select All, and put them in Trash.
Otherwise do them one by one or write an Apple Script Program.
If my convoluted idea does not work, perhaps you will be lucky and a more savvy person with a real solution will come forth!
    Caio.

How do I save and import my bookmarks from another hard drive? When I try to open the installed Firefox on the old drive, it (obviously) opens a browser from the new main drive, free of bookmarks. Is there a way I can save the bookmarks on the old drive without opening a browser?
The guts of my computer were rearranged and I got a new main hard drive. My old one is still in there and I can get stuff from it, but when I go to the Mozilla folder on the old one, I can't figure out if there's anything I can do to get all my bookmarks from that drive to my new one, where Firefox is newly installed.

If you open Firefox then Firefox will always use the default profile folder as found via profiles.ini on your system drive.
You either need to import the file in your current default profile or copy the file to your current profile folder while Firefox is closed.
Firefox 3 stores the bookmarks and the browser history in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/places.sqlite places.sqlite] and no longer creates an HTML backup by default.
There are also (five) JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder within the Firefox profile folder.
You can either copy the file places.sqlite to your [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] or import the most recent JSON backup from the bookmarkbackups folder of that old profile.

"Application Data" in XP/Win2K and "AppData" in Vista/Windows 7 are hidden folders.
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders
Go to: Control Panel > Folder Options > "View" tab > under "Hidden files and folders", select "Show hidden files and folders".
You may want to un-check the box "Hide extensions for known file types" to see the file extensions of all files.
