How do I uninstall Microsoft's SecureDownloadManager (SDM)?

Hey guys,
I was just using Microsoft's SecureDownloadManager to download Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac. However, I can't seem to uninstall SDM because it's not shown in the Applications folder, nor is the "x" available in the Launchpad.
Anyone know how to get rid of it?
Thanks.

You can find the application if you search for "SecureDownloadManager" under Spotlight, then Cmd-Click on the found app to reveal the location. On my machine, it is under ~/Applications/SecureDownloadManager.app, together with a log file SecureDownloadManager.log. Note that the dash represents your home folder (as opposed to the global root folder /Applications, where most applications are installed). To delete, start a Terminal session, and run the following two commands
rm ~/Applications/SecureDownloadManager.app
rm ~/Applications/SecureDownloadManager.log
to get rid of both. I am not aware of any other files that might belong to the application and which could have been installed elsewhere. At least I couldn't track .plist setting files that usually reside in ~/Library/Preferences.

Vicky:  The initial question is why do you want to uninstall Microsoft Office 2004?
If your answer is that you are upgrading to Office 2011, my recollection is that the installation process of Office 2011 will do all of the proper "uninstalling" that is necessary as it installs all of the necessary new files.
If your answer is that you do not intend to ever use Office again, including any of the data files that were created from it: then at this point, I would suggest that you just leave it alone.  Manually uninstalling raises more risks than it cures.
Even if you do upgrade to Office 2011, if you have continuous need to have access to your Office 2004 data files, you may find that Office 2011 does not properly translate some of your old files correctly.  I have this problem with an Excel 2004 chart that I access on a weekly basis and it gets trashed by Office 2011.
I have solved this problem by installing Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels 7 in Lion (and reinstalling Office 2004 inside the Snow Leopard environment):
In this way I can access my Excel 2004 chart, modify it as needed and save the changes.

  • How do I uninstall Microsoft Remote Desktop Ver. 2.0.1?

Working on Macbook Pro running Mac OS X Vers 10.6.7, Intel 2.4G Core i5
    8GB D3 DRAM

I had the same problem. In my case it was connected with
bug #4343952 - I was gettin GPF at the end of 1.3.1_04 install which I believe was corrupting the unisnt.isu. Anyway, what I did was:
my HKLM\software\microsoft\windowsNT\currentversion\winlogon\Shell was reg_sz_expand "Explorer.exe". I changed it to reg_sz "Explorer.exe" and then removed *.* from my JRE\1.3.1_04 folder, and then reinstalled freshly from 1.3.1_04 install. This fixed the uninstall and I was able to remove it flawlessly. That worked for me.
Hope this helps and wish you luck.

  • My Microsoft Office 2004 stopped working after upgrading to MT.  How can I get it to work, or, how can I uninstall MT?

My Microsoft Office 2004 stopped working after upgrading to Mountain Lion.  How can I get it to work again, or, how can I uninstall MT?

Office 2004 Applications Won't Work in Lion
You must have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite and will not work in Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

  • HT4759 How to Completely Uninstall iCloud? Office 2007 Save As Crashes

I can no longer use "Save As" in Office 2007 since I enabled ICloud.  Word and Excel Crash. And Outlook does not seem to be about to send more than one email at a time.  I have to select the Send/Receive button right after I create a new email.  If I wait and create a second email, the first email in the outbox changes status from ready to send to cannot send.  And even if I open it and try to send it, it will not send.  I have to re-create it.
I want to know how to thoroughly uninstall ICloud.  Other posters on Microsoft (Girish M) and Apple (SkinnyNick) have indicated that the problem is related to ICloud.  And I can confirm that I started having problems right after enabling ICloud.  Here are the references:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2007-excel/excel-2007-clo sing-unexpectedly-when-trying-to/69705682-06ca-4e39-b17e-56d4bacc3452
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4607859?start=0&tstart=0
I spent a lot of time trying to trouble shoot this problem.  I ran the Office install to repair.  This did not work.  I uninstalled all Office 2007 related products.  I then manually purged all directories relating to office including the Common Shared Directories.  Then, I ran Microsoft's FixIt to uninstall Office to make sure everything was uninstalled.  Then, I reinstalled Office 2007 and it still failed.  I thought about installing Office 2010, but the second post (above SkinnyNick) indicates that this would not work.
So, I am looking for a way to uninstall iCloud including that parts that is causing this problem.  Now, the second post (above) from
SkinnyNick) says that he tried to uninstall iCloud but this did not fix the problem.  He finally reconfigured iCloud by de-selecting Outlook, but I would rather completely remove iCloud.
Can anyone provide instructions on how to completely remove iCloud so that my Office 2007 products will function again using Save As?
    Thanks,
    Rob

As a Windows Application Developer who has more than 28 years of professional development experience, I can tell you that anything is possible in terms of how developers implement their applications. I have seen just about everything under the sun, and it would not surprise me if Apple's iCloud not only places files in key Windows directories, but it may use configuration information in a file as opposed to the Window Registry to control how their application behaves. And this would prevent “System Restore" from fixing the problem. Configuration information can be stored in many places. And, even if you do use the Windows Registry to control how your application works, you can key off of new files (like a user profile file) to control how your application to behaves. Csound1, you have been very generous with your time, and I am very grateful for your advice. Thank you.

  • I have windows vista. i downloaded firefox - now I need to uninstall and I cant seem to be able to. how do I uninstall and go back to windows 9 like I was befo

I list my pets on petfinders. it came up that my edition of windows exlorer 9 would not work and to go wtih firefox. I downloaded firefox and now it wont work and I need to uninstall but cant seem to be able to- how do I uninstall so can go with the windows version

The uninstall instructions for Firefox are here
    *[[Uninstall Firefox from your computer]]
However <s>Firefox is obviously working, and </s>it does no harm to have more than one browser on a computer. In fact it can be a distinct advantage. For instance it allows you to use the alternative browser if the primary one has a fault.
Maybe what you are in fact trying to do is to set Internet Explorer (IE) as the default browser again, so that for instance the IE icons appear on some files and links. You can do that from IE
    * see http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/internet-explorer/make-ie-default-browser#ie=ie-10
    * if you do; or do NOT, want Firefox as the default browser also note the information here [[How to make web links open in Firefox by default]]

Windows 8.1 Preview cannot be uninstalled. However, if what you want is to remove Windows completely, start up in OS X, open Boot Camp Assistant (in /Applications/Utilities) and follow the steps to remove the Windows partition.
If what you want is to install the final Windows 8.1 version, read this Microsoft support article > http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/update-from-preview

Microsoft, ever helpful, offers the following
    Access your hard drive
Double-click the hard drive icon on your desktop
    Find the plugin
Navigate to your Internet Plug-Ins directory: /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
    Remove the plugin
Drag any of the following into your trash bin:

  • MSN Messenger erase or how do I uninstall properly?

    Hello everyone
I wanted to install MSN Messenger original Microsoft Version. So I downloaded the compressed file, decompressed it and installed MSN Messenger. But the icon of the drive in which the compressed data was located wouldn't go away. And when I put it in the trash can and emptied it, MSN Messenger wouldn't start anymore, but display a big question mark in the icon located in the dock. So I removed this one as well. I wanted to know if there are any rests of files left on my hard drive, which should be erased. In general: How do I uninstall software from my MAC? Is there a special way to do it? And in case of MSN Messenger, do you think it was removed properly? If not, how can I do it afterwards?
    Thank you so much

    Hello,
Here is what you should have done to install it:
    Download the program.
Then, open the disk image that you received as your download.
Then, from the disk image, copy the Messenger program to your Applications folder on your hard drive.
Then, eject the disk image and if you wanted delete the downloaded file.
Then, you would have gone into the Applications folder to run your Messenger program.
What you did was run the program from the disk image rather than from your hard drive. So, naturally, when you ejected the disk image, the program was gone.
The installation method I mentioned above is the standard method of installing programs on Macintosh computers.
As for whether Messenger is a self-contained package, it is self-contained. If you delete the main program, then the whole program is gone.
All that it leaves behind is your conversation history / cache and a couple of preference files in your preferences folder that contains your user-name and password and your settings.
    These files are called:
    com.microsoft.MessengerDaemon.plist
    and
    com.microsoft.Messenger.plist
    and
    com.microsoft.AlertsDaemon.plist
    and
    Microsoft Messenger User Cache
    These files are located in:
Hard Drive --> Users --> "Your User Name" --> Library --> Preferences --> Microsoft
If you delete these files as well as the main application, then everything is gone.
    I hope this helps.

  • How do I uninstall PSE 12. It is not listed in Windows control panel. I have PSE 13

How do I uninstall PSE 12. It is not listed in the control panel ow Windows 7. I have upgraded to PSE 13, and it IS listed in the control panel.

    Hi,
If you are not able to uninstall the software in the usual way from Programs and Features, you could try a third party uninstaller such as the application detailed below.
Download and install the free version of Revo Uninstaller from the link below.
    http://www.revouninstaller.com/download-freeware-version.php
Run revo and see if this detects the installation.  If it does, right click on the icon of the program you wish to remove and select Uninstall. During the process you may be asked to delete registry entries, just select all and then click delete. Do the same for any left-over files and folders. Once the uninstall has completed, restart the notebook.
