How do I uninstall Quicktime 7?

Wow, Quicktime 7 is terrible, and it unregistered my QT6 Pro key. How do I uninstall Quicktime 7 and go back to QT6?

What you CAN do is to get a copy of the Quicktime Player.app file from QuickTime 6.5 (ONLY THE APP FILE, NOT ANY OF THE FRAMEWORKS!) and install that on your machine. Be sure to give it a unique name (such as "Quicktime Player 6.app"). You can open the prefs on that and enable the pro features in QuickTime 6, but not in QuickTime 7, using your QT-6 registration code. QT-6 will then be running on the QT-7 framework. It does seem to work in Tiger; I don't have Leopard to test it with, but thanks to some BUGS! in QT-7, this is the configuration I have to use for a CATV video playback channel application I am working on.
Thanks to Quicktime Kirk for pointing out that this is possible. Sorry, you're on your own to find a working copy of the QuickTime 6.5.3 app. Note that you need ONLY the application package; everything else on your system should remain QT-7.

  • How can I uninstall Quicktime Pro 7.4.5 and then install on a new system?

    Hi,
How can I uninstall Quicktime Pro 7.4.5 and then install on a new system?
I've got a new computer and I want to uninstall Quicktime Pro 7.4.5 and then install on the new system. Maybe I'm overlooking something, but a bunch of other applications have easy 'uninstall' functions right in the application toolbar. Why doesn't Quicktime?????
    Thanks.

I've read that Q/T is not just a simple application but in reality, a major component of the OS. This is where it varies from other similar acting apps like WMV, AVI, FLV etc. To butress this statement, in a vague way, I remember seeing a graphic of the Mac OS when Apple was first pushing "X". QuickTime was in the same general area of depth in programming as UNIX.
So, you might not want to delete all of QuickTime just the Reg Key which should/could/might put you back to the non Q/T Pro functionality and thence legal to install on another machine.
Just be certain that the version on the new machine is the same as on the old machine or expect to buy a new $30 key.

  • How do I uninstall quicktime so it stops reverting to an older version?

How do I uninstall quicktime so it stops reverting to an older version despite having chosen to download 7.5.5?
I seem to be in a vortex!!

What exactly is happening?  I'm not understanding  your description of the problem but going purely on your mentioning Quicktime and seeing you are running Leopard I suspect you re-installed your operating system and the answer is:
    QuickTime 7.5.5 for Leopard - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL27
    QuickTime 7.7 for Leopard - http://support.apple.com/kb/dl761
= New version of Quicktime installed but application reports it needs to have that version installed =
Open Application > Utilities > System Profiler and check the Quicktime version in Frameworks vs. the version in Applications.  One person had re-installed their operating system.  It had kept the newer Player application but had reverted to an earlier version of the underlying support framework files which many applications utilize.  Re-installing Quicktime 7.7 took care of the problem.  Do this manually, not with Software Update.

  • How do you uninstall Quicktime?

I would LOVE to uninstall Quicktime. I got my hands on version 7.0.3 and I want to install it but I can't because my iMac won't let me.
If this was Windows, all you'd have to do is click on the Uninstall icon that comes with every program and baddabingbaddaboom we're back on track.
I'm just trying to get audio to work with Quicktime again. I got the same problem everyone else has. Solutions fond here aren't working... yet.

You can't. QT is intergraded throughout the system & many apps (Apple) depend on it.
However, you can do an Archive & Install & use Software Update to update to QT 7.0.2. Then use the 7.0.3 full installer.
IMPORTANT: Maker sure you select "preserve user preferences and data" when you performed the A&I?

  • How can I uninstall Quicktime completely?

I want to purge ALL files related to Quicktime so that I can try installing a fresh copy to see if that would get it to working again.
See thread about it not working anymore since the latest "upgrade":

So have apple agreed to fix your problem without you having to pay a fee? I also can see that this is a huge problem for a lot of people and it is very frustrating. I am going thru the same thing and this is a problem for me but it seems as if i did all i can do. I even called dell support and they helped me remove any and everything that had to do with quicktime on my computer and i still get the error message that i cannot remove the old version but there is not a old version on my computer hard drive at all because dell removed it all so i don't know what's going on but if you find out please let me know.
    thanks

  • How do you uninstall Quicktime 7.1.3 and get back to 7.1.2

As many of you seem to be experiencing, Quicktime 7.1.3 is causing iPhoto 6 to crash when pictures edited in Photoshop are opened in iPhoto.
I want to get back to Quicktime 7.1.2 so that I can use iPhoto properly.

    Hi there,
The only way to go back in time is to use your install disk and run an archive and install... but then you will need to upgrade again incrementally
I would try posting your question either in the G5 forum or the quicktime forum here: http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=122

  • How can I uninstall Quicktime to install an earlier version?

I am using Adobe Premiere on 10.3.9 and I have had a ton of problems each time I upgrade anything, including Quicktime - Apparently, the optimum version of quicktime to run Premiere is 6.5.2 - -
I have trashed everything that says quicktime from every drive, but still, when I go to install quicktime 6.5.2 the installer will not let me choose my start up disk because it says there is a newer version already on it... What am I missing here? Am I going to have to erase the entire disk and re-install every bit of software?
    Help, please!

None of the uninstallers worked. I would always get messages saying that I had a newer version of quicktime installed no matter what I did. I dragged everything I could find on the drive (on every volume in the computer) to the trash and dumped it all - got the same message -= I finally just backed up all my files and erased the disk and reinstalled the entire operating system starting with OS 9 . - that was the only thing that worked for me.

  • How can I uninstall Quicktime 7 Pro?

    Any ideas?

    Any ideas?
If you don't want to use the dedicated QT 7 Pro Player GUI, simply delete the QT 7 Player app. (You cannot uninstall the QT 7/X structure itself as it is now an integral part of the Mac OS X operating system.)

  • Can't install Quicktime 7 as won't uninstall Quicktime 6.5

    Hi
Trying to install i-tunes with the new version of quicktime but when it tries to uninstall my current version of quicktime (6.5) the following message appears:
    Could not open key:
HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\windows\current version\uninstall\quicktime. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
How can i uninstall quicktime 6.5 & install the new version? What is a HKEY?
i have contacted both itunes support and pcworld support to no avail. Can anyone HELP, PLEASE!!!
    Thanks

I spoke too soon on that one. Tried everything listed in the certificate to no avail.
6.5 version never did work on that PC. XP SP2, nothing special.
It cannot go on line either. Lightning made sure of that.
I deleted any version trace of it on the PC, Then several attempts of getting the right version for XP.
Download it to a memory card on This Apple Laptop.
Then over to the PC to install.
After the 3rd try with finally the correct version of 7.1.6, we have success.
A bit tough to find a version that worked. You don't know until the version is tried.
There was no direct path searching for 6.5 of what it had and to what came next.
    No Guru God here.
Just trying different sockets from the mixed up tray of choices to set the record straight.

  • Uninstall Quicktime 7.1.3 - How to remove quicktime 7.1.3 Here's how

If you need to uninstall quicktime 7.1.3 heres how.
    1. Drag the quicktime icon from your apps folder to the trash
    2. Download and run the 7.01 re-installer
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/quicktime701reinstaller.html
    Thats it.
The problem I had with it is this. Before the upgrade Finalcut would export to Ipod format at 320x240. After the upgrade it exported at full size 640x480 with no option to change it. I dont have time to figure it out in the middle of a project.

I had the same problem with QT 7.13 (Crashing Safari no Screensaver etc) I ended up removing ALL QT files visible and invisible and then reinstalling the version of QT on my system install disks by using Pacifist then running the archived upgrade to QT 7.1.2 which I had luckily archived when I had originally upgraded

i've mistakenly uninstalled quicktime X from my macbook air. How can I install it back again?

Click here and follow the instructions. If they don't work, go to the Mac App Store home page, click on Support under Quick Links, contact Apple, and see what they say.

  • I accidentally uninstalled quicktime. How do i get it back?

The other day I completly removed QuickTime from my computer by mistake.  I went to the apple website to try and download it but there is no link for a .dmg.  Instead there is a message that says "Use Software Update to keep QuickTime up to date on your Mac".  Does anyone know how I can get QuickTime back?

If you have a package unpacker such as Pacifist, and you kept your Lion install download package, you can open this in Pacifist and explore your way to the quicktime installer package. I did this recently as QTX was giving me stuttering problems in playing back mpegs. Reinstalling didn't solve that problem, but at least I now know how to get it back!
    Full instructions on this post:

As long as you use a recent version of Pacifist it works fine.

  • How do I uninstall QT 7.1.3 on a MacBook Pro?!!

How do I uninstall QT 7.1.3 on a MacBook Pro?
It does not play nice with a very important piece of software I am using.
The other post on how to "uninstall" does not apply to my situation. I tried it and got this error when using the 7.0.1 Reinstaller:
"Your computer does not have the hardware required to run this software"
    Help please.

Flash support is disabled (by default) in version 7.1.3.
To turn it back on simply open the QT Sys Prefs Pane/Advanced and check the box to "Enable Flash".
Quit and restart QT for these changes to take effect.
QuickTime only supports Flash (.swf files) that are "published" as version 5, or lower.

  • Can't upgrade iTunes... can't uninstall QuickTime

    Help!!
I've missed a couple of upgrades to iTunes, waiting to investigate the problem - error 1322, a portion of the path exceeds the maximum length allowed by the system.
Now I think I've isolated it. If I try and uninstall Quicktime (version 7.1) I get the same problem.
So I think uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime will help. But how do I do that - I can't get past the error.
Any experienced insights will be welcomed!
    Thank you
      Windows XP

I just solved a similar problem by using "Windows Install Clean Up" to completely remove my old version of Quicktime. Be very careful using this program, since it removes programs from the Window's registry. You can download it from Microsoft's web site.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Be sure to carefully read all the instructions on the webpage before using the program.
Run the "Windows Install Clean Up" program.
Select Quicktime and remove it. Don't select anything else!
After this, try updating iTunes. I hope it works for you.
