How do i uninstall some thing

i installed microsoft silver light plug in and i want to know how to uninstall on a mac this is my first mac and i haven't uninstalled something yet so can some one tell me what the procedure is?

Hi Barry
I understand what you meant by "arcane" and I agree.
However, coming from the PC world, I grew up on DOS and other command line-based OSs.
Unix is not special or arcane any more than DOS is. It's merely a command line technique for getting things done. UNIX might alarm people, but simple Terminal command should not.
I consider the average user quite adept at using the Terminal. Many posts in which a terminal command or series of commands have been given in this forum have met with positive responses.
I would rather promote the use of the Terminal than cause people to shy away from it.
That was my only point. I would like the "average" user to use the Terminal as well as the GUI.
Leopard users have two powerful tools: Finder/Gui based apps and the Terminal.
I just don't want anyone to forget about that 1000 HP engine we are running
There are many posts on this board in which instructions are given for users to use the Terminal mode and most have a good time and accomplish what they set out to do.
I have suggested the command dmesg to some who are having boot problems and so far it has helped several users.
This is the Leopard board, and the Terminal is one of the Leopard apps, so we should use it when needed, just as we use the other utilities and apps.
Computers are tools and toys, and playing around with them is fun. Learning never ends.
With TM as a backup, almost any error can be undone.
I am not being argumentative, but merely encouraging users to use all the applications and commands in Leopard.
I would even add that this discourse is probably getting some interested in what this is all about, and to me, that's a good thing.

Buy something for more than the balance and charge the remainder to a credit card, or write Apple and ask them to keep the balance.

• I use Firefox to get into Gmail. How do I transfer some things from AOL to Firefox and start a new website within Firefox.. or can't I??? in English

I have an account with That Free Thing and Alert Pay. It's linked to my AOL email. I have just been informed that I should change to Firefox. How do I go about transferring everything? If I already have Gmail connected to Firefox and eventually will disconnect that account, is there a way to connect now? I am very confused as I just don't understand all about the internet and different sites. Maybe one day....???
Do you understand what I am trying to get across? I hope I am explaining it right.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

• HT5824 How do I delete some things from my cloud storage

I am new to the cloud and not sure how to reduce some of the items stored on there.

You can delete it from any of your devices that are signed into your iCloud account (such as your iPhone). You can also delete some of it by going to icloud.com from your computer.

I recently installed your password saver thing, now I cannot undo a password that has changed. How do I uninstall this thing? PC dumb , as I am old and know little to nothing about computers. Thank you, Jane

You can remove saved passwords here:
*Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: "Saved Passwords" > "Show Passwords"
If you want to remove saved form data from a drop down list then use these steps:
#Click the (empty) input field on the web page to open the drop down list
#Highlight an entry in the drop down list
#Press the Delete key (on Mac: Shift+Delete) to remove it.

• HT1338 How does one uninstall Garageband and other things?

How does one uninstall Garageband and other things on the Macbook air?

Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS. Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term. Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default. You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder. Usually with the same name as the program or the developer. The item generally has a ".pkg" extension. Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications. Here is a selection:
1. AppZapper
2. AppDelete
3. Automaton
4. Hazel
5. AppCleaner
6. CleanApp
7. iTrash
8. Amnesia
9. Uninstaller
10. Spring Cleaning

If your intention is to use the trial again it will not reset if you reinstall. It will remain in its ran out state.

Okay so I asked someone from apple and they said that the software update icon is gone but its functions have been merged with the app store icon on the settings menu. Crisis averted haha!

• How to uninstall some applications.

I'm a newbi of Mac. Say if I want to uninstall some software, what shall I do? Just throw the files in trash?? Is there a Windows comparative "Uninstall" procedure to follow?
Especially, I installed a software, and it only has a ``fast key'' in the "Services" tab of every application. How can I remove it from the services??
Thanks,
Powerbook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.2)

As a general rule, if the Application has its own uninstaller, run that. Most apps don't have an uninstaller, as they are not really necessary.
If there's no uninstaller, just drag the application to the trash.
If you want to be extra thorough, you could do a spotlight search for the .plist files or any other small traces of the application. Typically these take up a very negligable amount of space and it's OK to leave them orphaned.

Hy ,
My mac pro (SL 10.6.8) wakes up every minutes when I use wake on lan and I share one of my Hard Drive.
When I unplug the ethernet cable it doesn't wake any more so I suppose that some thing wakes it up on my network ( 1 printer canon MP620, 2 mac books, 2 iPads, 2 IPhones and 2 time capsules !) ...even when all these devices are "sleeping"
Any idea?

• TS1702 How do I uninstall an app I do not want? I downloaded some free games, and apps and do not want than.

How do I uninstall an app? I downloaded a few free games, and apps, and do not want them. Please let me know how this is done. Thanks.

Press and hold any of the apps and after a couple of seconds or so they should start to shake. Then press the 'x' in the left corner to delete the ones that you don't want, and when you've finished deleting press the home button so as to stop the shaking (you can't delete any of the Apple built-in apps). If you don't get the 'x' on any of the apps that you've downloaded then check that Settings > General > Restrictions > Deleting Apps isn't set 'off'
