How do I unistall a Program

I just got my MacBook Air and I installed Yahoo Messenger, how do I uninstall it? I just will run it on my desktop.

devilwoman,
If it starts automatically when you login then go to System Preferences>accounts>Select your account on the left and hit the Login Items tab.
It should be in this list. To delete from startup items, Click on the lock in the lower left, enter your admin password, select Yahoo in the list and hit the "-" tab under this list.
Now logoff and back on. To remove the program from your system, open the applications folder in finder, find the program and delete it. (right click and move to trash).
Hope this helps..

• How do I unistall Windows 7 from my Macbook Pro?

I have been trying to unistall several programs from my Mac and I cannot figure out how to do so. What program do I use to remove programs like Windows 7?

Windows 7 is not a program, it is an operating system.
If you used Boot Camp Assistant to partition your hard drive to install Windows 7, you use Boot Camp Assistant to remove the Boot Camp partition. This will also remove the Windows OS installed in that partition and return your computer to OSx only.

How do I unistall searchya

Note as a quick initial step just choosing the correct search engine in the search bar should allow Firefox to use that search engine in all searches.
* see [[Search bar - Easily choose your favorite search engine]]
Now for the removal. This needs three steps
#You will need to identify and remove the program using the Windows Control panel.
see [[Disable or remove Add-ons]]
#Check Firefox and remove any toolbar extensions that are unwanted. There is a quick reset option, but you may wish to try to avoid that. If you do use it close any necessary open tabs. Bookmark any left open and any Firefox extensions' homes . (You will loose open tabs and any extensions if you reset.)
'''[[Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page]]'''

Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS. Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term. Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default. You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder. Usually with the same name as the program or the developer. The item generally has a ".pkg" extension. Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications. Here is a selection:
1. AppZapper
2. AppDelete
3. Automaton
4. Hazel
5. AppCleaner
6. CleanApp
7. iTrash
8. Amnesia
9. Uninstaller

• Installing and Unistalling downloaded programs

Hi, I'm new to mac and don't know where to begin when it comes to installing and unistalling downloaded programs correctly. Please help. Many thanks.

Hi, carpi.
Installing applications
Generally, packaged commercial software is distributed on CDs or via downloads and includes installation instructions that should be readily obvious.
Many of the shareware and freeware applications you will download are distributed in disk images, files with the .dmg extension. A disk image is a virtual hard drive in a single file.
Double-clicking the .dmg file mounts the disk image, like mounting a drive, and opens a new Finder window showing its contents.
On your desktop, an unmounted disk image appears as follows:
Whereas a mounted disk image might look like this:
If you download a disk image containing an application, double-click the disk image file, then examine the Finder window that opens. Usually it will contain:• A "Read Me" file that tells you how to install the app, uninstall the app, get support, etc. If there's a "Read Me" or "Read Me First" document, be sure to read that first.
• One of the following:• The application, as a single icon. This is known as a bundle. It contains all the files associated with the application in a folder that is also the application's icon. One drags-and-drops these to the Macintosh HD > Applications folder to install the app and make it available to all user accounts on your Macv. If you want the application available to only your account, drag-and-drop it to your Home > Applications folder. If you do not have a Home > Applications folder, simply create such a folder.
• An installer package for the application. If it uses the Mac OS X Installer, the installer package looks like a cardboard box containing objects. One double-clicks normally this to install the application.• Other files the developer decided to include, sometimes icon that are actually hyperlinks to their Web site, etc. After you've installed the application, you can eject the mounted disk image by any of the following means:• Dragging its icon to the Trash. This ejects the mounted disk image: it does not Trash it.
• Control-click the mounted disk image's icon and select Eject from the resulting contextual menu.
• Click the Eject button next to the mounted disk image's icon in the Finder's Sidebar.
• Launch Disk Utility (in the Applications > Utilities folder), select the mounted disk image in the left column, then click Eject on the Disk Utility toolbar. After you have ejected the mounted disk image, you can trash the unmounted disk image, i.e. the .dmg file you downloaded.
You can learn more about disk images by reviewing these files from Mac Help (Finder > Help > Mac Help) and Disk Utility Help.

• How do you uninstall a program from mountain lion osx

Hi first time on mac forum
my question is being new to imacs how do you uninstal a program from an imac running osx mountain lion. And of course get rid of the icon for that program from launchpad
thanks

What app do you want to uninstall? If it's an app that is provided by the installation of OS X, e.g. Safari, Reminders, Notes, Mail, etc. - there are many others - they shouldn't be uninstalled.
If it is an app that was downloaded from the Mac App Store, in Launchpad click and hold its icon until it jiggles. Click on the 'x' in the corner to delete it.
If it's an app that was installed using an installer program it is always best to see if an uninstaller is available from the developer of the app (there is often an uninstaller bundled in with the installer package).
Other third party apps that are simply drag-installed into the Applications folder - like Skype, for example - can be just dragged to the Trash and will be deleted when the Trash is emptied.

• How do I assign a program to my new HR sapscript form ZHR_BEN_CONF

I have copied the form HR_BEN_CONF to a z program. I set the config to use this form when printing a confirmation form. when I am in transaction HRBEN0015 it is printing my new form. All is fine except I cannot figure out how to assing my Z program to the new form. My z program is a copy of SAPLHRBEN00FORMS and I also tried RPUBEN15. I tried assigned the print program within se71. But that doesn't work and I cannot find in configuration how to assign the new program to the new form.

Application Preferences.
Next time, 'what' program would also help.
Most people do setup with a dedicated boot drive with OS and apps, .then use other drives or array(s) for media, scratch as needed, including external hardware RAID.

• How do I get a program to start up when I turn my computer on?

You know how in the dock, there's a little triangle under a program that's technically running even if you don't have a window open? Dashboard and Finder always have that triangle after start up. How do I get another program, like Safari to "start up" with that triangel all the time even if I don't want to have the browser window open when I turn my computer on?

Open the Accounts pane of System Preferences, add it to the list of login items for your account, and check the box to hide it. Some applications, such as Mail, ignore the box in Mac OS X 10.4 and are always visible when launched; in this case, an AppleScript can be used to hide them.

You need a Firewire cable to run between the two Macs. Using Utility>Migration Assistant running on your new MacBook Pro, transfer what you want (with all the preferences and such) from your MacBook to your MBP. Here's more info from Apple.
You might have an issue with the Serial number for Office, but hopefully you have that around.
Hope this helps.

• How do i stop my programs from automatically popping up when i turn on the computer?

how do i stop my programs from automatically popping up when i turn on the computer?

When you log out or shut down, there will be a checkbox that asks you if you want to reopen windows when you log in. Just uncheck this box. If that isn't it, you may have login items turned on. Go to System Preferences>Users and Groups and then under your name click the Login Itens tab. Make sure nothing is there.
If you want to stop windows from restoring when you open applications (so for example when you open Safari it doesn't open the 50 tab page you just had open when you quit) go to SystemPreferences>General and then hit the checkbox that says Close windows when quitting an application.

Any application that is open when you shut down will re-open when you restart unless you deselect this when shutting down/restarting:
Also check System Preferences>Users & Groups>Login items tab and make sure there's nothing listed there that you don't want launched.
