How do I 'unlink' different audio regions?

Hi
I'm a FCE-user new to FCP. I'm finishing a project in FCP and need to adjust/process audio for different clips. When I make adjustments to the audio from one clip, it affects all the other clips too (presumably because they have the same source file?). It's driving me potty. How do I make the different audio regions independant of each other?
Thanks

You do not mean the first and second channel of the same videoclip that lie above each other in the timeline, do you?
Because then we're talking about a stereopair and selecting both audio'clips' and hitting Option L (or Alt-L) Would solve your problem.
Or do you mean that they lie next to each other. (Later in time). Well. If they are still linked as stereopair. Still Option L can help you. Or at least COMMAND L to unlink it from the videotrack. Otherwise I don't get what's happening.
You need to be more specific on your workflow. You say in the viewer. Is that a videoclip you doubleclicked on the timeline, or a clip loaded from the browser. Do you adjust levels by using your mouse (or pen) or some (which) shortcut.
Are there in and outpoints in the timeline?

  • How do you choose different audio streams?

If you have an "audio options" menu, and you have the choice between Ac3 and DTS, how would you link the different audio tracks to the buttons in the sub menu. also, how do you link the tracks to the audio button on you dvd players controller?
    thanks in advance

    How is the menu done?
In the DVDSP4 Apple training book they show how to create a script to make sure the Audio Options menu shows the currently selected version. I do not find a tutorial on how to create an Audio Options or Languages with audio choices menu.

  • How to change content of audio region

    Dear Logic Pro Discussion
Is there any way you can swap the audio file in a region with that of another one but keeping the audio start position, for example if you had two or three takes that you wanted to choose from but keeping the audio on the same track. ~I know i Pro Tools LE you can open up a little drop down menu and swap the file easily.
Anyone know how to do this
    Thanks
    Jonny

There isn't a practical way to do what you're wanting, at least that I'm aware of.
Have you tried doing this? I think you'll find that it's a great way to record multiple takes. And, I find it much more intuitive than PT's playlists.
For starters, if you have recorded 4 tracks of a lead vocal, you can then easily color code the phrases, or even words, that you want to use in a comped track. This is all visible in front of you. And you can, for instance, mute all the various sections of the vocal, except those that you have color coded as good, to quickly see how the comp will sound.
When finished, you can grab all the same colored regions, and use the "Move selected Regions to Track" command, and all the regions that you have selected as "keepers" will jump to the newly created and selected track.
You can than make use of the track hide feature, to tuck away all the duplicate track instances. They'll all be out of sight, yet you can get them back instantly should you decide to try different takes as options later.
Definitely spend some time checking this out. It's one of the often overlooked features of Logic. It sounds to me like you have "But PT does it like this- itis".
Give this a go... I think you'll see what I mean.

  • How do you unlink stereo audio files as opt-L did under FCP 7?

Under Final Cut 7, I was able to unlink a stereo file and move the left and right tracks independently forwared and back (manually stereoizing the sound if I wanted to).  I see how expand an audio sound and changing panning on left and right, but no way to move the left or right track a few frames independent of the other as in FCP 7.  Is there a way to do it?

You mean shifting them out of sync? Change the channel configuration to dual mono and detach the audio.

  • How do you make an audio region longer ? Is a region a container ?

i hav a sample of a kick drum, i repeat it 4 times to make a loop (classic house/techno kicck loop) .. now the samples are shorter than one beat so i have gaps in my loop .. i choose'Merge' to 'weld' them together, it asks me to create a new audio file .. but the resulting region stops fter the end of the last sample, so there is a whole until the end of the cycle, so i can't use the loop feature (cause when i do the next loop will start immediately after the last sample end .. so everyhthing is out of sync.
it seems i need to add some silence to the audio file at the end so that my region is exactly 1 bar long and i can loop it ...
can't i just create a region from the samples without having to resort to audio editing ... isn't a region just a container, like in cubase ?
    thx for any help

yes, a region is just a container or a reference pointing at the original audio file.
However, this means the region cannot be longer than the original audio file.
What you want to do is set your locators from say bar 1 to bar 5 (for a four bar section), solo the track, and select File > Export or File > Bounce...
In the later, you can ask Logic to add the resulting file to the Audio Bin.
Now you will have your 4 bar loop.
Another way, would be to cut out a piece of empty audio. Copy it to the end of the beat to create a perfect 4 bar loop and merge the all the regions. Logic will mix down to a file.
Alternatively, if you want to repeat regions (instead of Looping them), select the region, and in the local menu select Region > Repeat regions.

  • How to choose between different audio output in different programs

I want to choose between the audio outputs in different programs.
For example; I want to hear spotify/iTunes with my plugged-in speakers and skype with the build-in/intern speakers.
It is possiple to control this on Windows but can I do it on Mac?
Does anyone know an app for this problem?
    Thanks for help!

I'd assume you'd want to set the sequence to "slur" notes and then just calculate the notes between a top & bottom value based on a float and generate NOTE_ON messages appropriately.
The pitch bend is designed to emulate / support the bend wheel found on sound keyboards...and it just modifies the pitch associated with a given note. A pitch bend of +2 would turn an A into B, etc...
    So, you'd want to do...
SET_SLUR (however you do that, I'm not a MIDI expert)
    pitch = bottom_pitch + ((top_pitch-bottom_pitch) * sliderValue);
    NOTE_ON(pitch)

  • How do you "UNLINK" the audio tracks?

I have had LOGIC now for about 3 weeks. I am learning tons and enjoying the program overall. I have received some great help from this forum. My latest adventure is creating more audio tracks. I found out recently from this forum that I had the settings in my LOGIC setup. I increased the number of audio tracks that I can use. My current question is, If I need more audio tracks in a project, I click on an audio track and then go to the Track>Create Multiple Tracks menu. I can import as many as I need.
The problem I am having is, when I create the tracks, they are somehow "linked" to whatever track that I clicked on when I choose to create the new tracks. I have tried changing the track and midi channels in the LH side of the arrange window, but when I change one track, the other one changes also. I don't know how to separate them. Is there some way to do that? ALSO>>>> Is there a way to create new audio tracks without having to click on an existing track first?
    Thank you for your consideration.

The fastest way I know is to 1)- open the track mixer window, 2) click on the global button - to turn it on, 3) click on track button - to show all available tracks, 4) double click on an unused track, this will put a new track into the arrange window.
Turning off the global button in the mixer window and selecting the parts you want to display (Track, Instruments, MIDI, auxs, busses, etc) will show you the active tracks you have in the arrange window.

  • Backwards tape effect ? How do I flip an audio region so it plays backwards ?

Seems this option should be obvious - any help is appreciated - thanks

    Hi there,
    Have a nice day!

  • Move the audio regions?

when i move the audio regions in arrange window(zoom in maximum),i found there is always a 1/960 beat quantize,no matter i hold down Control or not.could anybody tell me how can i move the audio region any where i want without that 1/960 beat quantize?
    thx!

Actually, this is Logic's PPQ res. To be more exacting with the audio regions you'll have to open the sample editor and move the anchor. Very time consuming-hope this gets addressed.

  • EXS24 instrument created from audio region- How to  move files?

In Logic Pro X. I have created an EXS24 instrument from an audio region with 3 well-separated sounds. The instrument in EXS24 editor shows a zone with 3 files. Each file is actually the same physical file, but, when examining the three separate "files" (what should I call them??), a different section is highlighted for each tone. I can set a note for each of these "files". This instrument plays perfectly.
So now I have 2 files in my project folder  - a .exs one for the instrument, and ONE SINGLE .wav file somehow representing three different samples. I want to move them to ~Library/Application Support/Logic/folderName, where folderName is , say,  myInstruments (for .exs) and mySamples (for .wav). When I do this, and erase the files in the project folder, I can load the instrument and the sample file into EXS24, but the sample file is recognized as one single tone - that is, in the EXS24 editor, there is only one file rather than 3, and that file has all three audio sounds.
How do I move these files correctly? Is there some way to get them created originally in the correct place?

    Hi keystrike,
This article will give you information about how to move files in Logic -

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • How can I edit imported audio track? After selecting and deleting region and joining remaining parts, it keeps playing the track with the deleted part! What am I doing wrong?

How can I edit imported audio track? After selecting and deleting region, and joining remaining parts, it keeps playing the track with the deleted region!
    What am I doing wrong?

After selecting and deleting region, and joining remaining parts, it keeps playing the track with the deleted region!
    What am I doing wrong?
How exactly are you doing this?
When I cut out a part of an audio region, then drag the remaining parts together, so they are touching, the track will skip the cut out section when playing the file.  Also, if I select the remaining parts of the region and use the command "Edit > join regions". This will create a new audio file with the cut out part deleted.
You should see this prompt, when you are joining the regions:

  • How to enlarge audio regions without timestretching (adding silence) ??????

In the Arrangement , id like to be abl to enlarge audio regions , so they fit in the length i need , but im not speaking about timestretching .
I explain myself : I have many short audio files in my arrangement . To be able to manipulate easily these regions , i want to enlarge them so they fit in the bars or in the loop , then i can just copy them or move them accurately . this is useful for un quantised region , wich can be a little difficult to move and copy .
Basically i want that logic creates a new audio file with silence before or/and after the region . Is this possible ?? How ???
    than in advance

hi dup -- I think this will fix your problem:
1 - Slice off ( with the scissors tool) a bit of any audio region that already exists, copy it (apple C) and then paste it a little way away from your original audio region(OAR) on the same track. Then rejoin your original piece of audio region.
2 - Place the Song Position Line ( SPL) exactly where you want the new audio region (NAR) to start. Let us say it is at bar beginning of bar 3 or if you are using time code 3seconds.
3 - Select your snipped bit of new audio region(NAR) and using the key command 'Catch Clock' - the audio region will snap right up against the SPL. ( Make sure OAR is not selected or it will also move ..which you dont want )
4 - Now select the NAR and go to the Audio menu and find the command Convert Region to New Audio File. This will turn the NAR into its own independent piece of new audio.
5 - Double click on the NAR - the Sample Editor will open. Go to Function and select the command for Silence. This will turn the NAR into a completely silent lump of audio.
6 - Now you have a Silent lump of audio ( NAR) and your old region(OAR) from which it originally came from. Select both and use the command for Merge. ( This default key command is sometimes J)
7 - A box will come up which says something about 'non contiguous regions.. do you want to create a new audio file?'
    The answer is YES
Here is a sort of diagram:
    {NAR} {OAR}
    becomes
    {NAR++OAR}
The piece above which says Original Region will have your audio sound.. but NAR and all the new stuff in between.... + will be as Wm Shakespeare said "the rest is silence"

  • How to unlock audio regions in audio bin window?

I cannot get some of my audio regions to unlock in the audio bin window. Page 292 of the manual explains that regions can be locked in the audio bin window to prevent unwanted alterations to start point, end point or anchor position. But when I open the audio bin window, some of the regions will not unlock. I am in the proper place, the audio bin window--I know you cannot unlock regions in the bin without opening the region in the audio bin window. Can anyone explain why some regions won't unlock? Thank you.

Thanks for the reply, but SMPTE lock seems to have no bearing on it. SMPTE is not locked, but the audio region still won't unlock in the audio bin window. These are audio regions I'm working with, not loops. I've been trying to get an answer to this for a long time. Hopefully something will come along.
