I am the administrator with the proper privileges and correct password. I have firefox 3.6. It prompts me to update and when I do it states i do not have sufficient privileges for certain items to update.

Open iTunes and click on the iTunes icon in the upper left of the menu bar. Select "Check for Updates..." From there you can update. Or open the App Store and select the Updates tab.

After i install 4.0 for mac, every time i load it, the dmg reappears and it only runs from the dmg. the box to drag firefox to the application folder reappears.

I'm running Mac OS X 10.4.11 "Intel," TenFourFox doesn't help with that. Whenever I load Firefox it tells me to upgrade to 12.0 for security reasons. 12.0 is most definitely not compatible with the version of OS X on my MacBook Pro. As of Firefox 4.0 and newer only the Intel is supported as the PPC was dropped and 64-bit was put in place with the 32-bit version.
For PPC Macs there is two options. Either you can use the current 3.6.* version from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Or you can try a third-party version of Firefox 8.0 from http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
However do see http://code.google.com/p/tenfourfox/wiki/PluginsNoLongerSupported if you use this version.

I want Firefox to open to my homepage every time after it crashes. I do not want it to return to the tabs and applications that caused the crash. I am willing to lose information. How do I do this?

Firefox crashes or seizes up when there are too many tabs and applications open, and causes my computer to crash or seize up. I use task manager to close Firefox or I restart my computer. Then, when Firefox restarts again, it automatically re-opens all the tabs and applications that caused the computer to seize or crash in first place. This is a waste of my time. I want Firefox to reopen to my homepage even if it crashes. I am willing to lose information to have Firefox reopen to a low-memory homepage. How do I do this?

Set the Integer pref browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes to 0 on the about:config page to get the about:sessionrestore page immediately with the first restart after a crash has occurred or the Task Manager was used to close Firefox.

You have four options that I know of.
1) Use an external DVD drive that will work on the MBA. (Apple's external Superdrive for MBA)
2) Use a remote disk connection, using another Mac with a DVD drive, and sharing the drive with the MBA.
3) Download Office from Microsoft's website, and then use only the registration code that came with your DVD purchase to authorize the registration.
4) Copy the contents of the Office DVD to a USB flash drive, using another computer. Then install from that flash drive.
Maybe someone else has an idea, if none of the above will woek for you.
