How do i update my computer? or QuickTime Player

hey when i try to play movie off my laptop it says " To see if additional software is available that will enable QuickTime Player to open the movie, click Tell Me More."
what does this mean? does this mean that i have to update my computer? if so how do i do that, i have already looked through system preferances and can't find out how to.....

It would be useful to know what version of OS X you have, what version of Quicktime you are using to play the movie, and what format the movie is.

I want to update codecs used by QuickTime player 7. Do I just use the update feature in the program, or do i need to manually update the codecs online somewhere?

QuickTime includes the most commonly used codecs with each install. When you encounter a file that you don't have the proper codec to view you may be directed to the third party component page offered by Apple.
But it doesn't tell you which to install because it doesn't actually "read" the file. It only knows that something is missing.
Best practice would be to use the MOvie Info window on files that give you trouble. You'll be able to view the codecs used in it and need only do a Google search to find what you need.

and would rather use QuickTime Player 7 in the Utilities folder to play .wmv files.

Mavericks update? Help please! I need to know how I can update my computer because right now, it's just not happening.

The only possible update for a model 2.1 is OS 10.7 Lion. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. to purchase it. Then within 3 days you will get an email with a code which you can use to download Lion from the App Store. The price is $19.99.
Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly. You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed.

How to install/update drivers for CD/DVD player T60

My laptop crashed while I was in the philippines. Of course, I did not have the restore or recovery cds. The technicians did a good job, but now I realize that they did not do that good of a job.
I am trying to create the PC Doctor Diagnosis bootable CD and I have used Ashampoo (did not install toolbar, etc) and ImgBurn. Both products fail and cannot write to the CD.
My technical info is:
ThinkPad T60p 2613-CTO
Windows XP, fully patched
I suspect that the CD Drive was not installed properly as I could never get the autoplay to work. I am able to use software CDs and run them manually.
How do I find what drivers I need and how do I troubleshoot the CD drive?

If the installer's on your computer, double-click it and follow the onscreen directions. If not, log into the Mac App Store with the Apple ID used to buy it, click on the Purchases tab, and download it.

QuickTime Player Gray Screen Help

So yesterday I rented a movie from Itunes.It was really slow and lagging on Itunes so I tried to play it on the quick time player and there was no audio or video, just subtitles showing on the bottom right corner of the QuickTime player. I updated both Itunes and QuickTime player and my drivers are up to date. I'm using windows 7 on PC. I tried to play the movie on windows media player but it says it needs the proper codec. I changed the wire-wall settings and changed some settings on the QuickTime player and still no response I have 7 hours left until my rental is over.

Quicktime player with audio only?

I have two problems:
First, I use Coursecompass an educational tool which use Quicktime to access it's multimedia. However, when I try to access it, all I get is audio but not any video.
Second, I also ordered the Pro version figuring it would be the solution, but the instructions to activate it sent me to my control panel to access Quicktime. However, even though I have the player on my computer, there is no box for it in my control panel. Does anyone have an idea of what's wrong?

Actually no, that won't help. The Pro key only unlocks the editing and export/conversion capabilities of QuickTime Player. Pro doesn't add anything to the ability of the free version to play a file.

If you have Vista on your computer, launch QuickTime Player and go to the Register menu command under Edit -> Preferences.
But as I said, a Pro registration won't add any playback capabilities. Have you contacted Pearson about the problem? If not, you might start with this support article on their site.
