How do I update to iso5 or 6 on iPad II

How do I update ipad2 to ios5 or 6?

Connect your iPad to iTune (computer) and Check for Updates. Backup before you proceed with update.

You can only update an iPad 2 to iOS 6.0.1, that is the only version that is 'signed' by Apple for it - so you will lose the built-in YouTube app and the Maps app will change, though google have app versions in the store.
To update connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Transfer Purchases (File > Devices > Transfer Purchases on iTunes 11). You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'.
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes (on iTunes 11 you can enable the left-hand sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC), and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button

How can I update my iOS 5 on my iPad 2 ?

The option to update without the computer (Over the air) was made available with iOS 5. If your iDevice is using a version of iOS lower than 5, you will need to use iTunes on your syncing computer to perform the upgrade. Use the Apple link below as a guide for the upgrade.

How do I update my Apple ID on my iPad as it has the old apple ID?

If you want to change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPad, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  When you do this you may find that the password for your old ID isn't accepted.  If this should happen, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, you need to temporarily recreate your old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPad, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

Plug it into your syncing computer, open iTunes, click on the name of your device and on the Summary tab (I believe it is) you'll see the option to download and update your device.
Personally, I'd recommend syncing and backing up your device, THEN update. just in case something goes wrong you have  good recent backup.

  • How do I update the iOS on an originl iPad?

When I go to settings, I don't see any place to click on Update Software

That's because the cloud didn't appear until you had iOS 5 or higher.  You have to connect your iPad to your computer and update the OS via iTunes.  Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes on your computer.  Also, the update can take some time as it builds a complete backup on the cloud, then reinstalls it on your device.  So, turn off any anti-virus or firewall software you may have on your computer for this process.

You need to be on iOS5 or greater to update directly from the iPad.  If you're on iOS4, you need to update from iTunes on your computer.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
