How do I update to Mac OS X Lion for free?

I bought my Macbook Pro in June of 2011.  At the time of my purchase, I was told that I was eligible for a free upgrade to Mac OS X Lion.  I was supposed to recieve an email for the upgrade when it was ready and I never recieved the notice.  I would like to know how I can take advantage of my free upgrade.
-Chelsea.

You cannot.  You had 30 days from purchase.
You can download from App Store for $30.

how to download  iwork for mac os x lion for free?

The iWork apps are not freeware, and they no longer have Trial Versions as they did before the appearance of the Mac App Store. But, they are so inexpensive that they really don't need trial versions, and they are much more sophisticated than what we would expect to get at no cost. Once you purchase an iWork app on one Mac device, you can download additional copies for your other computers at no additional charge.

  • How do I upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion for free?

How do I upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion for free? I just bought a new Mac Book Pro 5 days ago with OS X Lion. The Apple store said I could download the new OS for free by entering the receipt # and total amount of the purchase.  I don't know where to start or where to enter this information.  Please help.

    Hi,
Just go to http://www.apple.com/osx/uptodate/ if in the US otherwise go to main Apple homepage, click on the 'Mountain Lion is here' icon then scroll to the bottom where it says 'Get a free upgrade with your new Mac'. All the info should be there. I did this myself yesterday and am now awaiting my coupon code to get it for free.

  • How can i know if  I can download lion for free ?

how can i know if i can download lion for free , and if i found i can can i get a refund?

You must have purchased a new Mac on or after June 6th. You then have 30 days from the release of Lion in which to make your claim. See
    Lion Up-To-Date upgrade
"The Mac OS X Lion Up-To-Date upgrade is available at no additional charge via the Mac App Store to all customers who purchased a qualifying new Mac system from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller on or after June 6, 2011. Users must request their Up-To-Date upgrade within 30 days of purchase of their Mac computer. Customers who purchase a qualifying Mac between June 6, 2011 and the date when Lion is available in the Mac App Store will have 30 days from Lion’s official release date to make a request." thanks for reply

It's already installed. To start it, run the following shell command:
    sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.postgresql.postgres_alt.plist
There is a lot more that needs to be done to make it useful for anything, but that's beyond the scope of this forum.

  • HT5048 can i and if i can how do i update my mac os x 10.6.8 system to the mac os x 10.7??

can i and if i can how do i update my mac os x 10.6.8 system to the mac os x 10.7??

    1)
    OS X Lion system requirements
To use Lion, make sure your computer has the following:
An Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
Mac OS X v10.6.6 or later to install via the Mac App Store (v10.6.8 recommended); you can install without Mac OS X v10.6 by using an OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive, available on the Apple Online Store
7 GB of available disk space
    2 GB of RAM
If your Mac does not meet these requirements, you will need to  upgrade your Mac before installing Lion.
    2)
    The Mac APP Store.

Check your machine's actual specifications here.
It looks like you can support up to 3 MByte in a 17" iMac and up to 4 Mbyte in a 20" iMac, if your cache size coordinates with the specs on the linked page.
OWC says you should be able to put 4 Gbyte into your machine here.  Wherever you get the memory, it would be a good addition.  This is the Apple Store listing for your machine, as near as I can figure it.

    As provided twice.
    You MUST buy the upgrade.
It is never free to update to a new OS.

  • TS1394 How do I update to Mac OS X 10.6 and higher

How do I update to Mac OS X 10.6

I did not know OS upgrade had to be purchased since I have been updating for free up to this point.
Everything within a major point release for OS X is free. So moving from 10.5.1 to 10.5.8 for example would be free. 10.5.x to 10.6.x would not.
Apple does continue to confuse folks by giving major paid releases the same OS X name and just increasing the point number. Usually in the world of software, a point release is a larger, free update to fix programming issues. You would normally have expected paid releases to be OS X (10), OS XI (11), etc. Apple did this instead, each paid major release called OS X:
    10.2 - Jaguar
    10.3 - Panther
    10.4 - Tiger
    10.5 - Leopard
    10.6 - Snow Leopard
    10.7 - Lion
    10.8 - Mountain Lion

How do I update from MAC OS X 10.6.8 to a later version? The software I'm trying to run indicated I needed MAC OS X 10.7 or later.

Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.
