How do I upgrade from Aperture 2.1.4 without having to pay?
I currently have Aperture 2.1.4 installed, but would like to update it to an available version that doesn't require me to pay for the update. It appears that if I try to download Aperture 3.X.X, that it expects me to pay for it. Can't someone simply update their existing version of Aperture from the existing version (2.1.4 in my case) without having to pay for the update? When I click on the "Apple" icon in the upper left of my desktop and select "Software update..." it only comes back with an update for ITunes and Safari. This doesn't seem to make sense, because my current version of Aperture (which is 2.1.4) is not the latest version, not even if I want to stick with version 2.X.X. There are clearly newer versions of Aperture on the download page, without having to transition to version 3.X.X, but my "Software update..." doesn't identify it. Is every update of Aperture (even from 2.1.4 to 2.1.5) considered an "upgrade" that has to be paid for?
Updating, that is going from minor number to minor number (ie: 2.1 to 2.1.4) is free,
Upgrading, that is going to a new major number (ie: 2 to 3) is and has always required purchasing the new version.
Sorry but there is no way around this. However remember you can now purchse Aperture from the App Store so while not cheap it is very much less then what is was from the Apple Store.

I have the Aperture trial version. When I open it, I get an option to buy it....and I have just three days left on my trial.
So I click BUY - and everything flakes out. It opens a window or two, along with Safari, with a URL that doesn't work - http://www.itunes.com/mac/aperture
One of the popups displays the price. When I click it, it says I can't buy it because it's already installed on my computer. I don't have a clue what's going on.
Thanks for any tips.To buy Aperture you get the best deal from the App Store, not the Apple Store. The Trial Version has been discontinued. To be able to download from the App Store you have remove the Trial Version from the Applications Folder, but keep your Aperture Library and all the presets in your User Library. Then you should be able download Aperture from the App Store.
What is your OS version? You will need 10.6.8 or 10.7.3.

Every link on the adobe site takes me to a page for signing up to CC.
I just want to purchase an upgrade to stand alone Lightroom 6 (I have stand-alone LR 5).
I've seen a couple of news articles that mentioned upgrade pricing, but there's
nothing about non-CC Lightroom on adobe's site. You currently have to go
to Amazon to buy LR 6, and they don't provide an upgrade option.
Has anyone figured out how to do this?

As said ssprengel you can click on the "Product" link at the bottom of any Adobe page (though it's quite a tiny sized text) or click the menu on top of Adobe home page
and then click on the bottom button "All Products"..
Then you're on a list of product, go to this line and select "Buy" :
then "Add to cart" :
Then on the Cart page, select "Edit" on the top right of the product selection :
Then change "Full" to "Upgrade" and change the "I own" drop down selection to your product :
Then click on "Save Changes" at bottom and then TADA, the new price appear :

When I purchased it I was told that I can use Lion on up to 10 Macs under the license agreement.
I'm sorry to tell you that whoever told you that was wrong. The version of Lion that comes WITH a new computer is only licensed to be used with that one computer. Now, when you BUY Lion OSX from the App Store THAT copy is indeed licensed to be used on several Apple computers that you own.

Im a new Mac user. I currently just bought a new MacBook Pro. The first computer I got apparently had a problem with the flex, so I had to go change it for a new one. The first one had the latest operating system, the second one the store gave me didn't, yet it's still a brand new computer, so I don't see why I should have to pay for the new operating system, which should already come with my brand new computer. So I am trying to contact apple so they may give me permission to download it from the app store for free, due to this inconvenience and first bad experience. The vendor tells me that sometimes new computers may come with old operating systems because they're from an old batch of new computers. Oh and by the way, I'm from Honduras, and bought it at Jetstereo, in Tegucigalpa (the capital). This store is a licensed distributor.

You'll need to call the online Apple store, which in the US is 800-MY-APPLE, and buy OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, from the legacy products list. You'll use the DVD they send to install the new operating system, then run Software Update several times until there are no more updates. At that point, you'll be at 10.6.8 and can download iTunes 7.
PS. Be sure and have a system backup before upgrading your operating system. -
How can I upgrade from Infinity to 56K dial-up?
I have had Infinity for about a month. At first everything was great, 38Mbps. I am about 25m from the cabinet where the optical fibre is terminated so I expected this to be quite consistent.
Seven days ago the speed dropped to about 5Mbps and over the next 12 hours or so dropped even further. The last time I managed to get a download speed measurement I recorded a speed of 28.2Kbps (yes, that is Kilobits). I have not had a speed as low as that in almost 20 years. Currently the BT speed tester is not working, I suspect my speed is too slow for it. The BBC speed tester reports my speed as being 0Mbps.
I have called the BT help line every day since and have been told today that it has finally been escalated to the BT Openreach Engineering Dept. I am told that an engineer will visit me in 3 days time to fix the problem. Why has it taken a week to do this and why can somebody not do something quicker? Is BT Infinity so bad that all the engineers are running around trying to get it to work. People always go on about Microsoft getting customers to test their products, I think BT are doing the same thing with a product which is obviously not suitable for it's task.
This is absolutely awful customer service. Seven days for a succession of "support engineers" a few thousand miles away reading from a prepared script is not my idea of looking after customers.
I cannot express how this has changed my opinion of BT.
A few years ago I worked for a major supplier of satellite communications equipment. BT were one of our first big customers. We had to jump though so many hoops before we installed the equipment it was unbelievable. The system was tested to death before it entered service. What has happened to this level of quality control?

To open an iPhoto 7.1.x version in iPhoto '11 you need to run the iPhoto Library Upgrader. See this Support document:
iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrade
Download and install the upgrader, then run it on your iPhoto 7.1.5 library. After that, iPhoto will be able to open your library and upgrade it to version 9.5.1. And you will be able to merge the libraries with if Library Manager. -

If your Mini shipped with OS X 10.7 Lion, then it was considered a 2011 build model, or before.
The Mini 2012 model, is considered a Late 2012, & the last one where RAM could be upgraded.
And it shipped with Mountain Lion 10.8, which is a fairly OK system if one had older software.
(However mine shipped in Dec 2014, with Mavericks 10.9.0, and was built in January 2014.)
There were a few different build versions of Late 2012 Mac Mini, the i5 or i7 processor,
in dual-core or quad-core, and some CTO or built-to-order versions with other specs.
You can buy Mountain Lion from online Apple Store, & use a download code emailed to you to
get the Mt. Lion 10.8 from Apple Servers; this would be about it, since Mavericks isn't available.
So hopefully that is an option you can exercise; in addition the computer may prefer more RAM.

My apologies if this answer can be found elsewhere, but I don't know where else to turn. How can I upgrade from OS 10.5.8 to snow leopard so THEN I can update to Lion? Can't do anything unless I already have 10.6 or higher and I don't. Now what? Everything on the apple store keeps pointing me to LION. It's like they are forcing you to get Lion, however I can't do that if I don't have the previous upgrades. Am I missing something? Please forgive if this is a dumb question or maybe I'm missing an obvious answer somewhere. Thanks in advance!
As others have stated... you now have to Telephone Apple to get a copy of Snow Leopard...
Purchase Snow Leopard or Lion
1-800-MY-APPLE or 1-800-676-2775
Then... Before attempting any Major Upgrade... get yourself an External Hard Drive... and create a Bootable Clone Backup of your current Hard Drive...
By far the easiest way to make such a Backup, is to use something like
SuperDuper http://www.shirt-pocket.com/
or CCC http://www.bombich.com/
That way, should anything untoward happen during the Upgrade,
you will NOT LOSE ANYTHING.
(Get an EHD that is at least equal to your current Drive...)
Also, Install as much RAM as your Mac will run...
It is important to get the Correct and Matching RAM

You could try printing to file: Just choose print in Aperture, set up your print parameters and choose save as PDF.
I would try both, and see what works best for you.

I got sorted apparently I had a recipt for the orignal 4.5 upgrade and this prevented the software updater looking for Final Cut Pro 4.5
solution: I opened Library and went to Receipts and found FinalCutProHD4.5.Pkg I deleted this then I went to software update and bingo problem solved?
