Hello I am trying to sync my photos from my blackberry and have already installed that software, however the program is stating that I must have Iphote version 8 or later and mine currently is only 5.  I tried to do the version 9 update but it said my operating system needed to be higher.  I don't know  what to do please help! thanks so much

You need to purchase an iLIfe 09 disk to get iPhoto version 8.

How can I upgrade from iphoto 7.1.5 to 8.1.2 on an older iMac running OSX 10.6.8 ?

With the above listed config that I have (iphoto 7.1.5 on an older iMac running OSX 10.6.8), how can I move my iPhoto library from this old iMac (2006) to my NEW iMac (2011) that is running iPhoto 9.5.1 ?
To open an iPhoto 7.1.x version in iPhoto '11 you need to run the iPhoto Library Upgrader. See this Support document:
iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrade
Download and install the upgrader,  then run it on your iPhoto 7.1.5 library. After that, iPhoto will be able to open your library and upgrade it to version 9.5.1. And you will be able to merge the libraries with if Library Manager.

  • How can I upgrade from OSX 10.7 to 10.9 on my 2012 mac mini? (2.3 GHz, 4 GB, 500 GB SATA disk) I don't want OSX Yosemite.

How can I upgrade from OSX 10.7 to 10.9 on my 2012 mac mini? (2.3 GHz, 4 GB, 500 GB SATA disk) I don't want OSX Yosemite.

If your Mini shipped with OS X 10.7 Lion, then it was considered a 2011 build model, or before.
The Mini 2012 model, is considered a Late 2012, & the last one where RAM could be upgraded.
And it shipped with Mountain Lion 10.8, which is a fairly OK system if one had older software.
(However mine shipped in Dec 2014, with Mavericks 10.9.0, and was built in January 2014.)
There were a few different build versions of Late 2012 Mac Mini, the i5 or i7 processor,
in dual-core or quad-core, and some CTO or built-to-order versions with other specs.
You can buy Mountain Lion from online Apple Store, & use a download code emailed to you to
get the Mt. Lion 10.8 from Apple Servers; this would be about it, since Mavericks isn't available.
So hopefully that is an option you can exercise; in addition the computer may prefer more RAM.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • HOw Do I upgrade from Tiger 4.11 to 5.6 on an I Mac 5.1 (Mid 2006) Intel core2 Duo?

How do  I upgrade from 4.11 (Tiger) on an I Mac 5.1 (mid2006)
to 4.6 (Snwoleopard)? I have an Intel core 2 duo  processor
with 2.16 GHz speed and 1GB RAM .
Can I just buy a disc and install- do I need to backup everything from my harddisk
    and reinstall the whole stuff?
Isw Lion (4.7) an option - or do I need more Ram?

You can but the Snow Leopard install disk from the Apple on-line storre for $29 (US) and install that on your machine.  You would be better off increasing the memory from 1 GB to 2 GB.  It is always advisable to backup your data to an external hard drive before updating an operating system just as a precaution.
For Lion you need at least 2 GB ram, 4 GB is better, and an Intel Core 2 Duo or better cpu, which you say you have.

  • How I successfully upgraded from iPhoto '09 to iPhoto '11 - Glitch Free.

I've been eagerly reading the forums PRIOR to installing iPhoto '11 and I'm about to dive in. I have an iMac 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 6GB RAM running Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.4.
I'm currently running iPhoto '09 (version 8.1.2) with 1403 events, 41,133 photos, 24 Faces and 29 Places. I have dozens of Albums and Smart Albums, Mobile Me Galleries, as well as 5 Keepsakes-3 cards and 2 books. The library itself is 185 GB in size and resides in an Admin User account in /Users/User/Pictures
Here is what I've done PRIOR to installing iPhoto '11
    _*Fixed Permissions:*_
    1. Holding down OPTION+COMMAND keys and then launching iPhoto '09 and selecting "Examine and repair iPhoto Library file permissions." I also rebuilt the small thumbnails but nothing else.
    2. Opening disk utility and repairing disk permissions on Macintosh HD
    3. Downloaded BatChmod and changed all the permissions as suggested in the links below. Initially the checkmark for apply to enclosed folders and files was not available. I selected another file then returned and it was available.
Also my permissions for the iPhoto library (and a quick survey of the package contents -right click with mouse to do this) were set to Read Write for my User account, for Group (_unknown in my case) and for Everyone without running BatChmod. Select your iPhoto library and press COMMAND+I to check this. I chose to run BatChmod anyways to ensure every file was indeed wide open as far as permissions go.

    _*Repaired Fonts*_
    1. Opened Font Book and selected all the fonts then from the menus:
    -Edit > Resolve Duplicates
    -File > Validate Fonts
I then deleted the most severely affected fonts marked with red. I still had several marked yellow "minor problems were found. Proceed with caution."
    Backups
    1. Time Machine Backup on External Drive, plus another Time Machine Backup on another drive but it's about a week out of date.
    2. Copy of iPhoto '09 application on a different External Drive then the Time Machine Backup (Usually found at the folder /Applications)
    3. Copy of iPhoto '09 library folder on a different External Drive then the Time Machine Backup (Usually found in the folder /Users/User/Pictures )
This way I've got two ways of going backwards to iPhoto 09 if necessary - using the Time Machine backups (which appears to be painful for some) and failing that option simply dragging back actual untouched copies of iPhoto '09.app and iPhoto '09 library with photos, preferences, keepsakes, events etc all intact. (iPhoto '11 makes changes to the iPhoto '09 library files and removes the '09 app as well).
I then turned off Time Machine to prevent it from backing up further.
    Install
Then in went the iLife '11 disc. No problems with the installation. After the install I *immediately opened Software Update from the Apple menu, and did not open iPhoto.*
iPhoto Update 9.1 came up and I installed it. A restart was not required but I did one anyways. Interestingly enough when I did a COMMAND+I to get info on the new iPhoto '11 library it showed different permissions of User -read/write, and Everyone -read/write. No groups listed.
I then opened iPhoto '11 and got the following message with the options to Quit or Upgrade. I clicked Upgrade.
" *The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto* Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process for very large libraries may take an hour or more to complete."
My fairly _*large 185 GB library took 28 minutes to upgrade*_ and showed a progress bar as well as the monochromatic spinning wheel.
Success! All of my photos, events, places and albums, smart albums, MobileMe books and cards and slideshows are present and I can even edit a book I started. My iPhoto library is the same size give or take a MB.
Was all this necessary? We'll never know. I certainly wouldn't expect a first time Mac user to do the BatChmod steps or the Font Book steps, or even the Permissions steps, however I would expect everyone to do the backup steps of at least Time Machine.
We are talking valuable photos which are not replaceable, some people run into burning buildings to save their photos, so a quick backup seems reasonable. Turns out I didn't need my backups but I had no hesitation doing the upgrade with them in place.
    In Summary:
    1. Repair Permissions on your hard drive and iPhoto Library (see above for specifics)
    2. Remove duplicate Fonts and Validate and Remove trouble fonts in Font Book
    3. Backup, Backup, Backup. If possible with Time Machine and also separate exact copies of iPhoto library folder and iPhoto app itself.
    4. Install iLife '11 and restart.
    5. _*DO NOT OPEN iPhoto '11 YET*_, but DO OPEN Software Upgrade and install iPhoto version 9.1 (iPhoto '11 is version 9 of the software, iPhoto '09 is version 8)
    6. Open iPhoto '11 and wait patiently for the upgrading of your previous library.
This process worked seamless for me, and was headache free. I'm now also going to keep an offsite backup of my computer either in the cloud or at a friend, family or work location.
    Hope this helps!

Thanks so much - Iphoto has been driving me nuts for a while now. Permanent spinning wheel in Places and requiring force quit almost everytime. Following the advice to repair Iphoto permissions removed the spinning wheel from Places and Iphoto is completely back to normal

  • How do I upgrade from iPhoto 9 to...

After installing Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.5, numerous problems with iPhoto -- repeated freezes; pinwheel delays; etc etc etc
I'm assuming I need an iPhoto upgrade to sync with the OS X software.
    I'm trying!
    1.  About iPhoto identifies my installed version as iPhoto '09 8.1.2
    2.  Trying to install iPhoto Update 9.1, I get this error message: "iPhoto Update can't be installed on this disk [my desktop Macintosh HD with 115 GB available]. iPhoto 9.0 or later is required to install this update."
    What do I do next?
    Nate

    1 - iPhoto '09 runs fine under OS X 10.8.5
Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database
2 - to move to iPhoto '11 you must purchase the iPhoto upgrade from the App store - however do not do this until you resolve teh current issue - and there is no need to do it at all if you are happy with iPhoto '09

  • How do I upgrade from iphoto 2.0.1?

Have a laptop Mac OS X version 10.4.10. Have just started using my iphoto software and can't seem to upgrade it. Thanks for any help. Rosemarie

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
You need to purchase an iLife disk to upgrade.
Updates - from 2.0.0 to 2.0.1 etc., are free but Upgrades - from v2 to v4 - require a purchase. However, you can go straight from your v2 to the latest v7, you don't have to purchase all the versions in between.

  • How can I upgrade from iPhoto 6 using SnoLeopard?

I'm trying to create a slideshow for my aunts memorial service and I am realizing that my iPhoto 6 (v. 6.0.6) is severely out of date.
    I'm using OS X 10.6.8
I tried going to upgrade to iPhoto 11 but when I do, it's saying that I need OS X 10.7.4 in order to do so.  Does anyone know where I can get an updated version of iPhoto?
The main reason for wanting to upgrade is to export the slideshow to a CD.  Exen at the highest quality export 640 x 480, the .mov file is pretty low quality.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

    Alternatives to iPhoto's slideshow include:
    iMovie, on every Mac sold.
Others, in order of price: PhotoPresenter  $29
    PhotoToMovie  $49.95
    PulpMotion  $129
FotoMagico $29 (Home version) ($149 Pro version, which includes PhotoPresenter)
    Final Cut Pro X $299
It's difficult to compare these apps. They have differences in capability - some are driven off templates. some aren't. Some have a wider variety of transitions. Others will have excellent audio controls. It's worth checking them out to see what meets your needs. However, there is no doubt that Final Cut Pro X is the most capable app of them all. You get what you pay for.

  • How do I upgrade from iphoto 7.1.5 to 9.5.1 (OSX Mavericks)?

If I click "buy app" for 9.5.1 in the app store, it says "iphoto 7..1.5 is already installed and was not purchased from the mac app store.  Do you want to buy iphoto 9.5.1?"  My question is, if I do, will it upgrade my existing iphoto 7.1.5 (from iLife '08)?

By purchasing the new version of iPhoto or if you downloaded and installed Mavericks, then you might be  eligible for a free upgrade:

  • How do I upgrade from OSX version 10.2.8 to anything higher?

Hi spoonallen! And Welcome to Discussions!
Mac OS X Versions 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4, are complete system upgrades that must be purchased.
The point upgrades, such as 10.1.x to 10.1.5 (Final) 10.2.x to 10.2.8 (Final), 10.3.x to 10.3.9 (Final), and 10.4.x to 10.4.5 (Pending), can be downloaded for free.
A Full Retail Version(Link), of the Panther Install CDs(Link), can be purchased rather inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, AppleRescue, etc.
They are no longer available directly from the "Apple Store", as "Tiger 10.4.x" is the most up to date OS.
Here are links to some on eBay, that look legit, but CAVEAT EMPTOR!
    Link: USED Plus iLife!
    Link:PROBABLY USED
    Link: USED
    Link: USED
If you do an expanded search on eBay, or Amazon, you will probably find more.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
Panther is only on CDs, not DVDs.
More info here Tip: Using OS X Install CDs/DVDs On Multiple Macs(Link).
Once 10.3.x is installed, you can use the 10.3.9 Combo Update(Link), to upgrade to the final edition of Panther.
If your Mac meets the Tiger system requirements(Link), you could also consider installing that, using a FULL RETAIL VERSION(Link) of the TIGER INSTALL DVD(Link).

  • How do I upgrade from "server" version of the OS to the "desktop" version?

I installed the text-based download, and now I have a server-oriented config. How do I
install the necessary packages to get the graphical desktop? Or do I have to redownload
    and reinstall?

    Hi,
You're correct. The Getting Started Guide procedure is missing the step for enabling the GDM desktop service after installing slim_install. The instructions will need to be updated to include the following command, executed after the "reboot" step:
    svcadm enable gdm && exit
I'm the installation writer. Thank you for catching this omission!

but have no icloud on my system preferences on imac
do I eed to upgrade my software (currently IOSx 10.5.8)? Or is there another way to sync and not endlessly repeat calendar entries?
    m

Yes, you need to upgrade to OS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
Whilst Apple have withdrawn Snow Leopard from their stores, you can still get it from Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE (if you are in the USA) and they will supply the SL DVD for $30.  You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion from the same number.
If you are outside the US call your national Apple Helpline:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
If you're in the UK, use this number: 0871 508 4400
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.

  • Upgrading from iphoto 4 to i photo 7 on Leopard

How can I upgrade from iphoto 4 to iphoto7 (08) - and keep all my albums/ keep the dates the photos were shot - all that good stuff?
I am trying to upgrade from i photo 4.0.3 to i photo 7.1.4 - it keeps erasing all my albums and massively duplicating the size of my photo library ( I think it is duplicating photos) .. went from 47 GB to over 100 GB after it was through "upgrading" .. this happens when choosing the upgrade option after it says "Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process may take several minutes depending on the number of photos in the library"
choose upgrade and then I wait over and hour as it goes through all my pictures - some out of order -- and I see some twice . . .
What is the correct procedure here? I just got an i mac, early 08, running leopard . When installing leopard- i chose the option to firewire to my old ti book (G4) to copy everything over . . . My I photo library was on an external drive -- so I've dragged that folder into the pictures folder of the new mac . it knows where the folder is ... finds it -- then just goes haywire .
    Help!?

    Nope ,
    didnt work --
the error seems to be happening at this stage (just a guess ) -- It says "Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process may take several minutes depending on the number of photos in the library."
then I choose to "import the photos" . . .
now , the first time I chose this - I thought I should pick the option not to import the pictures ... this was actually kind of great - cause I wanted a way to get all of my original photos out of their i tunes folders -- which is what this option did ... (good thing I had a backup!) Ironically - this time - Iphoto contained all of my albums and such --- but they were all empty -- and there were no photos! . .
ok -- so I tried to go back and import the photos -- would it know to put them in the right albums? nope .
    Ok --
so I deleted all of that - and dragged my backup i photo from external drive #2 back into external drive #1 . . went through the process agan - and this time i photo has all of my albums- but they are all empty -- and all the 34,000 pictures occur under an event that occur today . ...
    wrong - delete - start over again . .
so what do I do now?
I still have an i photo lib -- the same as the original -- I've kept that backed up . ..
should I reinstall i photo 7 (08) to wipe it clean and try it one more time ?
    Sould I just use i photo 4? - can I on leopard?
Is there a tutorial/instructions on upgrading from 4 to '08? that would be ideal. - I see I'm not the only one struggling with this issue -- as the thread you responded to here illustrates .

looking forward to hearing back , thanks!
