How do I upgrade from LR3 to LR4 on both my MAC and my PC?

I have LR3 installed on my PC desktop and my MAcbook Pro. How can I download and upgrade both without buying it twice?

As long as you do not run both LR versions at the same time the Adobe license allows you to intall it on 2 machines.
You need 1 download only, as the program is identical on Windows and on Mac.
It is sufficient to let one of the machiens do the actual upgrad work and copy the reults over to the other.
From then on you have the usual challenge of keeping overlapping catalogs apart and knowing exactly, which portion is newer on which one, so you can export this portion as a catalog and import it into the other.
But I assume you have figured this out in a good workflow for you?

    Hi Raymond,
I would advise you to buy the bundle package of Premiere and Photoshop Elements 13 which cost 149 $ but due to online promotions the price right now is 119 $.

Can I load software from the Creative Cloud to both a Mac and PC that I own?  Is it the same yearly license cost?

Yes, you can use Creative Cloud desktop applications on two computers at once, regardless of operating system, for the individual associated with the Creative Cloud membership.

  • Upgrading from LR3 to LR4?

Is there a difference upgrading via download or disc when going from from LR3 to LR4? I have heard people mention that it is better to download the upgrade and enter your registration code from your retail packaging later ?

As mentioned above the d/load will be the current release whereas the disk version will be 4.0 and need updating.
There are many differences between Lr3 and 4 though including catalogs (Lr3 catalogs will have a copy made and upgraded) and processing (a new process version) which can alter image appearance of existing files. So don't update the process version on existing files before you have experimented - I do it only when reviewing a file if I feel I can work it better with the new version, not updating the whole lot at once!!

  • Question regarding upgrading from LR3 to LR4

I currently have Lightroom 3 installed on my PC and want to upgrade to Lightroom 4.
I have not had Lightroom 3 all that long and not too many files are there. I have two questions:
    1. Is it better to uninstall Lightroom 3 and then install a fresh copy of Lightroom 4 or could I just upgrade the current Lightroom 3 to Lightroom 4.
I know I have heard in the past is is usually better to to a fresh install. As I have only had Lightoom 3 for a few months and few files I wondered if
this was the way to go or would an upgrade be ok.
    2. I actually have the full version of Lightroom 4 (as opposed to an upgrade edition). Luckily for me, my father-in-law purchased it but turned out it was
not what he wanted so he gave it to me. Can I use this full version to upgrade (if that is the solution to my first question)? I  know I can use it to do a fresh install.
Also, if you can recommend any links to directions or video tutorials on migrating from LR3 to LR4 that would be great as I am very new to Lightroom.
    Thanks for the advice.

Yes, it is very easy, as your existing LR3 installation will not interfere with the new LR4 installation.
    Just download LR4.3 from Adobe.
Then start it, and go for File-Open catalog, and point to your exsiting LR3-catalog. The program will tell you that it needs to upgrade the catalog, which you confirm. This will create a new version-LR4 of your latest LR3-catalog.
You might not like the name automatically chosen by this upgrade process, so close LR4 and use Windows Explorer to rename it into something meaningful like "LR4 Master Catalaog" or some such. Then double-click on it and work from there.
Your previous images will show an exlamation mark in develop module for LR3's old process version 2010. Do not do anything on a batch basis for it, as this is not needed.
Only for images, for which you do not like your previous LR3-develop results so much, click on the exclamation mark and upgrade it to LR4's process version 2012, and manually tweak from there.

  • Upgrade from LR3 to LR4

    Hi,
I have a few questions before I install and migrate my LR3 Catalog to LR4.
Is there an Adobe Read Me document that discusses the do's and don'ts?
Will my settings for LR3 transfer to LR4? Currently my "Lightroom Settings" is saved with my LR3 Catalog.
Will LR4 save a new LR4 Catalog based on the previous LR3 version?
Finally, can I run both programs, LR3 and LR4 on the same Mac OS X 10.7.2? I plan to do this just for the next few months and LR3 Catalog will not point to the same photos as LR4.
Thanks so much for your help.

    Ian,
Thanks, yes I started to watch Ms. Kost videos, they are always very helpful. I also looked over the read me, http://www.adobe.com/support/lightroom/read_me/Lightroom4_Readme.pdf
Just a follow, can I keep and run both LR3 and LR4 on the same Mac? They will point to two different catalogs and photo folders. I want to run a couple of comparisons.
    Thanks again,

    Upgrade Notes
  To update your Lightroom 1, Lightroom 2 or Lightroom 3 catalog simply launch Lightroom 4 and you will be able to select and upgrade your previous Lightroom catalog.
  The Lightroom 4 catalog upgrade process does not erase or remove your previous Lightroom catalogs. If you wish to try the Lightroom 4 30-day trial by upgrading your existing catalog, you may always return to earlier versions of Lightroom and continue using your previous catalog.
o NOTE: Any changes or work completed in your catalog once it has been upgraded to work with Lightroom 4 will not be available in previous versions of Lightroom.
o NOTE: The upgrade process will modify the image preview information of an upgraded catalog.(This information is stored in the .lrdata file that is located adjacent to a catalog file in the file system) Returning to a previous version of Lightroom will require that the previews be re-rendered. This can be a lengthy process for those with hundreds of thousands of images.
  Upgrading a Library from Photoshop Elements 6, Photoshop Elements 7, Photoshop Elements 8, Photoshop Elements 9, or Photoshop Elements 10 for Windows requires that Photoshop Elements be installed on the computer at the time of upgrade.
  Upgrading a Library from Photoshop Elements 9 or Photoshop Elements 10 for Mac requires that Photoshop Elements be installed on the computer at the time of upgrade.
  Lightroom 4 Beta catalogs may be upgraded using the same methods available for Lightroom 1, Lightroom 2 or Lightroom 3 catalogs.
  If you attempt to upgrade the same Lightroom catalog more than once, Lightroom will inform you of the location of the previously upgraded catalog.

  • Requirements for upgrading from LR3 to LR4

The processor requirements for LR4 reads "Multicore Intel processor with 64 bit support." The processor description in the iMac I bought in early 2009 reads "2.8 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo." Will my processor handle LR4?
    Thank you

  • How do I upgrade from OS 10.6.8 to another Mac OS?

I have been avoiding upgrading from OS 10.6.8 on my 4-year old iMac because I have some applications that won't work with higher version, but now I have more applications that need a more recent version of the OS. Should I just go to 10.7, or a higher version. Also, all the cat names do not work for me; I need the numbers to know what each version is. Thanks.

Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and download Yosemite from the Mac App Store.

  • How can I upgrade from iMovie 7.4.1 while running Mac OSX 10.7.5?

I am trying to upgrade iMovie 7.4.1, but I don't know where to get the next version of the software.
I am currently running OSX 10.7.5 on a 2008 iMac.
    Thanks.

With the above listed config that I have (iphoto 7.1.5 on an older iMac running OSX 10.6.8), how can I move my iPhoto library from this old iMac (2006) to my NEW iMac (2011) that is running iPhoto 9.5.1 ?
To open an iPhoto 7.1.x version in iPhoto '11 you need to run the iPhoto Library Upgrader. See this Support document:
iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrade
Download and install the upgrader,  then run it on your iPhoto 7.1.5 library. After that, iPhoto will be able to open your library and upgrade it to version 9.5.1. And you will be able to merge the libraries with if Library Manager.

  • Upgrade from element 8 PC to element 12 mac and got an error that mac version doesn't support older element version. Any idea how to move catalog an pics?

    Hello,
Just upgraded Elements to version 12 on a Mac. Did a full backup on my Window based version 8 to external drive and when I wanted to do a restore on the V12 (Mac) got the following message: This catalog is from an older version of Elements and currently is not supported on the Mac platform. Please create a new catalog and then import your media". Any idea how I can maintain all the catalog data from the PC (I have about 25K pictures)?
    Thanks

There was a major change in catalog database format in PSE 9. You would need to install PSE 9 or later in windows, make the backup again and then restore that to the mac. You could conceivably do this with the trial if you didn't buy the boxed version of PSE 12 and so don't have the windows media.

  • How many computers can I put LR4 onto? (it would be upgrade from LR3)

Before I upgrade from LR3 to LR4, I need to know how many computers I am allowed to put this on (I have desktop and laptop).

    Hi,
two computers owned by you and you are not allowed to use lr at the same time (both running) on these computers.

  • Moving presets from lr3 to lr4

I upgraded from lr3 to lr4.4. 3rd party develop presets [datacolor spydercheckr] are showing up in lr3, not lr4. how do I move and redirect these presets from 3 to 4?

You can download the 30 day trial version and install it. But when it comes time to purchase there will not be any way for you to purchase Lightroom 4. Adobe only sells the current version. That download is provided primarily to enable users of the older version to download if they have a computer crash or purchase a new computer.

  • Import Keywords From LR3 to LR4.

I have just upgraded from LR3 to LR4.  My LR3 keywords are not showing up in LR4.  Found Import Keywords dialog but cannot find the folder/file with the LR3 keywords in it.  Is there a folder/file name I can search for to locate LR3 keywords?
    Thanks.

Importing files is not how this is done.
You want to open PSE4, then select File->Open and point to your LR3 catalog. This will upgrade the PSE3 catalog to PSE4, and all your photos will have all their keywords and other metadata.

  • HOw Do I upgrade from Tiger 4.11 to 5.6 on an I Mac 5.1 (Mid 2006) Intel core2 Duo?

How do  I upgrade from 4.11 (Tiger) on an I Mac 5.1 (mid2006)
to 4.6 (Snwoleopard)? I have an Intel core 2 duo  processor
with 2.16 GHz speed and 1GB RAM .
Can I just buy a disc and install- do I need to backup everything from my harddisk
    and reinstall the whole stuff?
Isw Lion (4.7) an option - or do I need more Ram?

You can but the Snow Leopard install disk from the Apple on-line storre for $29 (US) and install that on your machine.  You would be better off increasing the memory from 1 GB to 2 GB.  It is always advisable to backup your data to an external hard drive before updating an operating system just as a precaution.
For Lion you need at least 2 GB ram, 4 GB is better, and an Intel Core 2 Duo or better cpu, which you say you have.

  • External LaCie HD  to display both  its  Mac and PC partitons. HOW?

My external HD (LaCie 250 Gb) is partitioned this way:
    180 Gb - Mac formatted
    70Gb - PC formatted
The partition has been done a few years back with Mac OSX 10.2 using its standard disk utility - that’s all I know about tech details of this setup.
The only problem is that when I plug this LaCie 250 Gb into my MacBookPro , only Mac partition is visible.
PC formatted partition does not appear at all.
(My Mac displays any other external PC formatted drives without any problems)
How to make this external LaCie HD to display both its Mac and PC partitions on my Mac?
Thank you all who help me!

    The PC partition is FAT32.
The program you suggested is commercial but I just can't afford to spend on software that may or may not be suitable...
Any other options to see this PC partition on my Mac, fellow Mac users?
