How do i upgrade mac os x 10.0.4??

i have this old imac that was given to me..and i have been trying to update its software and i cant get past mac os x 10.0.4...i cant find an update after that..please help..and i run software update and it says it is up to date??

I'm not sure AppleScript can help you there.
Posting in the right forum might get you better results, but I'd expect people there to say that 10.0.4 is as up-to-date as 10.0 gets - at least as far as the free updates are concerned. If you want to get on the latest version you'll have to buy a new copy - there's no free upgrade from 10.0.x to 10.4.

I want to save all my programs and documents.

Once you have upgraded to Snow Leopard you will need to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. You can then access the App Store where you can purchase and download Mountain Lion.
Be sure your computer meets the minimum requirements:
Apple - OS X Mountain Lion - Read the technical specifications.

How do I upgrade Mac OS X Tiger?

Note the 867 Mhz or higher (1 Ghz is higher) is necessary for 10.5.
Note 10.5 also gets rid of Classic, the compatibility for Mac OS 9.
Note 10.6 to 10.6.8 can be upgraded to 10.7 or 10.8 as long as you have a Core2Duo minimum.   10.7 or later are not compatible with Rosetta, the Mac OS X tool that lets pre-2006 software run on newer machines.  For more on each, see these tips on 10.4, 10.5, 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8.
If you meet the requirements after purchasing the 10.6 installer CD.
10.4.4 through 10.5.8 can be upgraded directly to 10.6.3 to 10.6.6 to 10.7 to 10.7.5
10.4.4 through 10.5.8 can be upgraded directly to 10.6.3 to 10.6.8 to 10.8 to 10.8.4
10.7 & 10.8 are separate purchases, and can be downloaded from the Mac App Store once you are at 10.6.6 or 10.6.8 minimum depending on where you are at.

  • HT3607 How do I upgrade Mac OS X Server to OS X Lion

How do I upgrade to 10.6 or higher as the software I want to use needs 10.6 or higher.

  • How do I upgrade Mac OS X 10.4.2?

I would like to upgrade my system (10.4.2) to a higher version. How do I do this without having any of my applications (photoshop, flash, etc.) deleted or any of my files deleted?
    Thank you!

    I recommend the following procedure:
    A. Repair hard drive and permissions.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your OS X volume from the list on the left, click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (3.0.3 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.1 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X. Note that Disk Warrior will not work on Intel Macs.B. Clone your existing system to an external Firewire drive.
How to Clone Using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the startup or source volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    4. Drag the startup or source volume to the Source entry field.
    5. Select the backup or destination volume from the leftside list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Check the box to Erase Destination. Skip this step if you've already formatted the drive.
    7. Select the destination drive on the Desktop and press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. At the bottom in the Ownership and Permissions section be sure the box labeled "Ignore Permissions on this Volume" is unchecked.
    8. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
    C. Download the Combo Updater for the version to which you want to upgrade from http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/.
    D. Boot into safe mode to install the Combo Updater. After the update restart normally.

How can I upgrade Mac OS x 10.4 to 10.5 or later?

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a G3, no further upgrades are available.
If it's a G4 or G5, buy a retail Mac OS X 10.5 DVD from a source such as Amazon or eBay; Apple still might have copies in stock if you phone them.
If it's an Intel Mac, buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD from the online Apple Store.

How can I upgrade MAC OS X 10.5.8 to the latest version of LION?

First you need 10.6.6 or higher...
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 2GB at least)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.

    If it's a core Duo & not a Core2Duo, then it'll only run in 32 bit mode.
    Lion/101.7 System requirements
        •    x86-64 processor (Macs with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5, Intel Core i7, or Xeon processor.)
        •    At least 2GB of memory[14]
        •    Latest version of Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8), with the Mac App Store installed
        •    At least 4GB of disk space for downloading[14]
Like Snow Leopard, Lion does not support PowerPC-based Macs (e.g., Power Macs, PowerBooks, iBooks, iMacs (G3-G5), eMacs).
Lion also does not support 32-bit Intel Core Duo or Core Solo based Macs. Rosetta is no longer available in Lion, which means Lion no longer supports PowerPC applications.

  • How can I upgrade my Mac Pro

    Hello,
I have a Mac Pro. Here are the specs :
    Mac OS X 10.5.8
    MacPro1,1
    NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT
When OS 10.6 came out, I found out that I couldn't upgrade to it because of my graphic card. In the technical specifications it is mentioned that :
    OpenCL
requires one of the following graphics cards or graphics processors:
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, GeForce 9600M GT, GeForce 8600M GT, GeForce GT 120, GeForce GT 130, GeForce GTX 285, GeForce 8800 GT, GeForce 8800 GS, Quadro FX 4800, Quadro FX5600
    ATI Radeon 4850, Radeon 4870
Now, OS 10.5.8 is becoming more and more outdated. I would like to know how can I upgrade my Mac Pro ? What kind of graphic card can I put in ?
Thank you for any help and/or information !

It's been a while since I've used it but I installed Snow Leopard on my old Mac Pro 1,1 with the 7300GT and it worked. OpenCL may not have but the rest of it did. I don't think what you've quoted says you can't upgrade but only that an upgrade won't deliver all of the features in Snow Leopard. Indeed, I was able to move the HD in the 1,1 Mac Pro into the 5,1 Mac Pro, boot from it (10.6.4 is the minimum the 2010 Mac Pro will boot with), clone it and then updated it.

  • HT1444 how do i upgrade my Mac OS on my MacBook Pro

I have MacBook Pro with Mac OS 10.6.8. I want to install iBook Author software but when I try to install, I get error message stating that I need Mac OS X 10.7.4 or later to able to install this application. There seem to be no software updates available from menu. Could anyone tell me how I can obtain Mac OS X 10.7.4 or later? Thank you.

Check to ensure that your computer is compatible for the upgrade first -
Mountain Lion System Requirements - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5444.
Go to your applications folder, and open up "Apps Store".  Once open, in the top right, type in Mountain Lion.  You can download it here.
