How do i upgrade my Powerbook G4 10.411 to 10.5, so I can use Icloud

Help. I want to use Icloud for the Imac, iphone and Powerbook G4 version 10.4.11 to 10.5. All my music is in Itunes in my Powerbook 10.4.11.
Can't connect the iphone to Itunes in my Powerbook since it needs version 10.5 or later, really would like all my music in my iphone.
If I want to update my Powerbook I get the message: Software Update doesn’t have any new software for your computer at this time.
So i assume I need to upgrade? Is this possible?

Hi Elly -perhaps I'm not understanding your question but it seems you are asking about using iCloud with your G4 (a great workhorse of a computer IMHO). Unfortunately the G4 doesn't meet the minimum system requirements. You can access and use icloud on your iphone or ipad if you are running iOS5. Apple is really forcing us to upgrade (read: buy new) hardware and software, a move I think we have all seen coming over the past few years, but it seems now is time to pay the proverbial piper. Good luck.

  • I want to upgrade to iphone5 AND switch syncing to newer Mac that can use iCloud. Can I do this?

I have owned an iPhone since the first, and it has always been synced to my old iMac. Now, I own newer machines (that can use iCloud), and I want to upgrade to an iPhone5 now. However, if I sync it to the old iMac, that machine in not iCloud capable.
How do I do this without loosing all the apps and contacts, etc?

you can sync your iphone 5 with the old imac to get the information then usw the icloud. all your inforamtion with be saved to icloud and then you can sign in to icloud on the new imac.

Here are the bookmarks, since I'm now in Snow Leopard:

Advance warning - Mail worked fine.
I had fits with the last link I posted. At first it worked fine, then all of a sudden, it quit working. I now have iCloud - iCal syncing, but iCal is read only. Not a real big deal since you can log onto iCloud using Safari and post a new event.
I finally gave up on Address Book because it kept creating multiple contacts, which if you tried to merge or delete the multiple contacts, the contacts were deleted. It also worked at first and then stopped working as it should.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect to your computer & click on the "Update your device using iTunes".
Tip - You may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. After you update to iOS 5.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

  • How do I remove my AddressBook folder from dropbox on my old imac and transfer it to my new imac with lion so I can use iCloud?

How do I remove my Address Book folder from dropbox on my old Imac and move it to my new mac so I can use icloud

Is there a reason that you don't want to use Migration Assistant to automatically transfer all your user files from one Mac to the other?
If you absolutely want to do it manually, copy the contents of the user/Library/Application Support/AddressBook folder from the old Mac to the new. Use Dropbox or a flash drive or whatever you prefer, but it must end up in the same location you copied it from. You must hold down the Option key and click the Go menu in Finder to see the Library folder, or use Go - Go to Folder and type in "~/Library".

  • I have snow leopard 10.6.3 and want to upgrade so I can use Icloud. What do I need to do?

I have snow leopard 10.6.3 and want to upgrade so I can use Icloud. What do I need to do?

    Taken from Apple Website....
    OS X Lion system requirements
To use Lion, make sure your computer has the following:
An Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
Mac OS X v10.6.6 or later to install via the Mac App Store (v10.6.8 recommended); you can install without Mac OS X v10.6 by using an OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive, available on the Apple Online Store
7 GB of available disk space
    2 GB of RAM
If your Mac does not meet these requirements, you will need to  upgrade your Mac before installing Lion.
In other words, FIRST UPDATE your system to 10.6.8.... 10.6.8 will install the MAC APP STORE on your computer.. SECOND.... Buy Lion from MAC APP STORE (you may need to  create an Apple Login and Password). THIRD... Launch the LION installer and follow the on-screen instructions. Made sure to install ONLY THE COMPONENTS, don't ERASE your system before install. This way you don't lose your data (pictures, music, documents, etc.)

Thanks X!  I use Office 2011 as this iMac is only a year old.  I don't have Rosetta (is it an add-on?) at least, I've never seen it... so... you're saying I could upgrade to Lion with no ill effect to my FCP7 Studio and all it's files and my saved projects?

  • How Do I Upgrade My PowerBook G3 Pismo?

(First off, let me just say that this forum has been extremely helpful throughout the years. Thanks to everyone! And, I hope this post (and responses) continues to help those like me in the future!)
I want to upgrade my PowerBook G3 Pismo.
I already have a G4 PowerBook, yet can't tear myself away from my G3 just yet. However, my Pismo needs a huge overhaul. Right now it's running on 192MB of memory, a 6G hard drive, and a 400MHz processor. (I'm running OS 10.3.9, since I don't have enough hard drive space to install 10.4.) (Even most websites have gotten too advanced for my little G3 to view at a reasonable speed.)
Let me also say, I am not a do-it-yourself kinda guy really, so I'm hoping the answers I receive here are easy to follow for the average Joe.
From reading the other posts, I understand the three biggest upgrades to a G3, in order of impact and ease, are:
    1) Memory
    2) Hard Drive
    3) Processor
I would also like to include another relevant element:
    4) Battery Replacement (my battery is completely dead, as you can imagine)
(Another aim for this post is to have one place where people can easily see how to upgrade these things, rather than dig around for each topic.)
Rather than deal with the multitudes of justifications (whether or not I should, etc.), my questions for each of the four items above are simple:
    A) How can I maximize each option? (i.e. - What is the maximum amount of memory I can buy for it? How big of a hard drive can my G3 accommodate and utilize? What is the fastest processor I can use?)
    B) Where is the easiest/best place to purchase each item? (I know that's a bit subjective, but I'm sure there's a general consensus as to where the best, tried-and-true replacement batteries are sold, etc. (At least, I hope so.))
    C) How do I do-it-myself? (i.e. - Is there a specific URL or post that tells me how to physically replace the memory and hard drive, etc.?)
Again, thanks very much to all of you who help out in the posting of answers to all of us who are less technically advanced!

    Hollywood Guy:
You have hit upon a favorite topic around here, as you have already noticed.
The place to begin your upgrade is with RAM. The Pismo will support a total of 1 GB of RAM. 2 - PC 100 3.3v 144-pin SO-DIMM. You will find comparative prices of popular brands at ramseeker. You will also get good prices at Kahlon. The Pismo is not very picky about RAM and most manufacturers warranty their RAM for life.
The next upgrade that will give the biggest bang for the buck is the Hard Disk Drive. As noted previously, your computer will support up to a 120 GB HDD natively. (The BootROM will actually see 128 GB, but most manufactuers standardize the size to 120 GB). It is possible to install a larger HDD with the help of SpeedTools. However, I have not used the product, so I cannot vouch for it. Here is a list of available HDDs available for your Pismo at OWC
In terms of a processor upgrade, this is the most expensive upgrade and unless one really loves the Pismo, it may not be cost effective in the long run. I have done it myself, but then Pismo is my primary computer and I use it constantly and extensively for all my computing needs. Although we Pismo aficionados love our machines, we are also aware of it's limitations. If one would like to run any OS beyond Tiger, for example, you will need a minimum of a G with 867 MB processor, and even with a processor upgrade the Pismo will not make the cut.
So while I recommend the first two upgrades without qualification or reservation, the processor upgrade is different. If you decide that you really want to do it after careful consideration, I suggest that you peruse this thread for a full exploration of the subject. Several vendors are mentioned in the thread. My G4/550 processor upgrade is a Wegenermedia, but I hesistate to recommend them, as, since my installation I have learned of several users who have had difficulty with their service and products.
Please do post back with specific questions on any of the topics mentioned.
    Cheers

  • HT5167 how do I upgrade my Powerbook OS 10.4.11 to OS 10.5.8

Hi  I'm new to apple laptops and I need help upgrading my powerbook with OS 10.4.11 to a higher OS but I don't have the restoring Dics any can someone help please

Your computer must meet the requirements:
    Leopard System requirements
You must have a Macintosh computer with:
an Intel processor or a PowerPC G4 (867 MHz or faster) or G5 processor
    a DVD drive >built-in FireWire
at least 512 MB of RAM (additional RAM is recommended for development purposes)
a built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer
at least 9 GB of disk space available, or 12 GB of disk space if you install the developer tools
Then you will need to search Google, eBay, and Amazon.com for a retail copy of Leopard.

  • The current operating system on my MacBook Pro is 10.5.8.  I would like to upgrade it so I can use iCloud.  Which newer version of OS should I download?

Would like to use iCloud, but am currently using OS 10.5.8 with my MacBook Pro.  Which newer OS should  I download?

    Yes.
Get the Snow Leopard install DVD (Amazon etc...)
Use software update to get Snow Leopard 10.6.8
In Snow Leopard, you will have App Store application under the Applications folder
Launch the App Store app - it will use your Apple ID to set up purchases and payments
    Search for OS X Lion
Purchase Lion - it will download and install automatically over Snow Leopard
    NOTE 1:
Make sure you backup whatever is necessary. That should go without saying.
    NOTE 2:
Your Mac will likely be able to run Mountain LIon which is coming out in a couple of weeks.
I think, if you buy hte Lion now, you might be eligible for free upgrade to Mountain Lion.
If not, I'd hang on until ML is out, then buy it - that would be my preferred solution
Here is some info on upgrading and eligibility...

  • How do I take an object from an image and save it so I can use it in other images?

I am trying to figure out how to take an object from an image and save it so I can re-use it again in other pictures?  I know how to use the magic wand to select the object and place it in a blank image.... but I do not know how to re size the selected object or keep it for later use.  Basically I would like to use the object the same way that I use the graphics ... so I guess I am wondering if there is a way that I can make my own graphics... I have Elements Photoshop 13.  Thanks for any help/advice....  Jerrie

    Hi Jerrie,
You can re-size using Transformation tool. Ctrl + T will give you a box to re-size the image or object.
You can save these object as PNG file with Transparent layer. You can use these objects later in another projects.

  • HT4759 can I upgrade from snow leopard to current version of Mountain Lion on my Mac?  So I can use icloud on all devices?

Can I upgrade from Snow Leopard  -  OS X 10.6  - on my current Mac to Mountain Lion  -  OS X 10.8.2?   Or even up into IOS?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
As your Mac is running Mac OS X 10.6, first open  > Software Update and install Mac OS X 10.6.8. This update will add the App Store, so open it and try purchasing Mountain Lion. If your Mac is compatible, the computer will start downloading Mountain Lion.
While your Mac is downloading Mountain Lion, you should make a backup of your files. Also, check if your apps are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com
If your Mac isn't compatible with Mountain Lion, see if you can use OS X Lion > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4949 If it's compatible, call Apple to purchase Lion > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
