and a new macbook pro 10.7.4 mail 5.3
how do i get my mac pro to mail 5.3 ??
Cheers
Ian

Ian,
Migration Assistant will handle that for you. I would recommend Googling
Pondini Migration Assistant, in there he will show you how to migrate your settings, data and apps to your new machine. Migration Assistant will not let you choose what data to migrate so if you choose data, it will migrate all the old data. The same with apps and settings.

  • How do i upgrade from Leopard to Snow leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion without using the DVD?

Apparently someone mentioned if i wanted certain applications back i would havve to upgrade my software to snow leopard, Lion, or Mountin Lion. And also this also has to be under my flash players and my internet browsers say that they will not update anymore because i'm running on Leopard.
I have an intel core 2 duo processor with 2 GHz, 2 GB of memory, Space: 62.27 GB.

Upgrading to Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
You can purchase Snow Leopard by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will receive physical media - DVD - by mail.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download.

  • How do I upgrade from 10.5.8 to Lion (as of Sept 2012)?

I've found similar questions but it seems the options have changed since they were answered. I've tried following links for example and get "page not found" errors in the apple store... I presume Snow Leopard is no longer being sold online?
I admit it. I'm a lifelong PC user (this is my first-ever Mac) and my approach to upgrades thus tends to be "if it ain't broke, don't mess with it, you might have to downgrade later and you'll wish you never did this!" Anyway.... I am now running into all kinds of things that absolutely require at least 10.6 to run and I believe Apple is not even supporting Leopard anymore.
How can I upgrade now, in September 2012, as one of the remaining holdouts? Yes, coulda shoulda, I know...... but here I am!

You need to first purchase Snow Leopard 10.6. Call Apple and see if they still have it. Then update to 10.6.8. Then you'll need to purchase Lion 10.7.

  • How do I upgrade from 10.5.8 to Lion?

After realizing that my Mac Mail program (3.6) won't work with iCloud, I'm realizing I need to upgrade my ancient OS.  I want to move from 10.5.8 to Lion.  But I can't find a way to download OSX 7 from the App Store.  That's because since I'm on such an old OS, I can't run the App Store.  How can I download and install Lion?

Go through Mac OS X 10.6.6 to 10.6.8 or purchase the Mac OS X 10.7 USB thumbdrive and install it onto a blank partition.

  • How do I backup my emails in Mail Mountain Lion?

Am running an IMAP email from my website webmail (hosted at oneandone.com) to Mail on my iMac and am now running out of space on my webmail and so won't be able to receive any new emails when my space runs out.  As the email system is IMAP, if I delete mail from my webmail to free up space, I'll also delete the same emails from my Mail on my iMac.
I want to have a backup of these emails on my iMac so I can refer back to them easily.
If I export the IMAP mailbox before I delete the mail of the webmail, I'll have a backup but it doesn't appear to be easy to browse this backup and find emails for reference.
Is there some way I can create a backup of my emails locally, on my iMac, so that I can then delete them from my webmail and free up space but still be able to access and read these emails easily?
I was thinking about somehow creating a Mailbox on my iMac that is local to my iMac and not connected to the IMAP server at the webmail which I'd call something like "Old Emails up to 10th Dec 2012" where all these IMAP emails are stored and then deleting these emails from the IMAP server, thereby freeing up space.  Is this even possible?  If so, how do I do this???
    Thanks guys!!!

  • How do I upgrade my OSX Snow Leopard to Lion?

I have Snow Leopard on my MacBook (bought 2009). I have been unable to get it onto Lion as I could not access the app store (software error, now fixed).
I believe I have to from Snow Leopard to Lion to get to Mountain Lion. Thing is I cannot find Lion on the app store, and think it has been taken off.
So how on earth can I get to Lion?
    Help please.

If you have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 installed you don't need Lion.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • How can I import Outlook for Mac mail into Lion Mail?

How can I import mail from Outlook for Mac into Lion Mail?

It is not Outlook that needs to be sync'd; it is the Exchange Server.  Find out from the System Administrator of the Exchange Server the EXTERNAL name and use that to setup a new mail account in Lion Mail.  I highlight the "external" because the URL used for Window's Outlook Clients will not work.  Try the webmail URL first.

  • How can i upgrade os x to os x lion with the code that apple gave to me?

Please, can someone help with this? I bought mac book pro and i read that i can upgrade my operational system to os x lion for free and apple gave to me a code number but i don't know how to use this

Launch the Apple Store.app  in /Applications, log into the store using the same credentials you use to log into these forums. Once there, select OS X Lion and download it. The installer app shows on the Dock and is acturally stored to /Applicatons. To watch it's progress downloading, select the Purchased tab. Before installing, make a copy to another location, because the installer blows itself away after installing onto the volume it resides on.

  • How do I upgrade Snow Leopard Server to Mountain Lion (client)?

I have a Mac Mini Server edition (2010) with Snow Leopard Server (10.6.8) pre-installed. I don't like the interface of Server edition because 1) I don't need the server functions and 2) I prefer client OS's easier (less powerful I know) interface to do sharing, logging in, configuring.... etc.
(I know I should've bought the non-server version with a DVD drive but I can't take it back now.)
My question is, what's the easiest way of changing it to a 'client OS', preferably to the latest Mountain Lion? From forum posts it seems downgrading from 'server' to 'client' will definitely require a fresh install.  That's fine. I can move all my personal files to the second HDD in the Mini and do a fresh install of OS on the first HDD.
I can see 'Mountain Lion' upgrade in the App Store, but it doesn't say if it's server or client. I am assuming it's a server upgrade?? What will happen if I purchase it for £13.99 in App Store? Or is there an alternative way?
I have a USB Apple optical drive. I have a USB thumbdrive too for storing the OS image if required. Thank you. Any tips will be appreciated.

Luckily, I wasn't asked to purchase the 'Server' when I upgraded from SLS to Mountain Lion via the AppStore. I think your particular problem was mentioned in some other posts where the upgrade path to Lion became an infinite loop (hmmm... ). But that's all in the past now. Glad it all worked.

  • How do I save attachments out of Mail in Lion?

I'm set to classic mode and have disabled discussions, but the one bit of old functionality from 10.6 Mail that eludes me is the twirl down arrow (next to the paperclip and under the recipients) that allows me to see all the attachments I've recieved and save them (individually or all together).  Can anyone enlighten me on what preference to alter?  Thanks!

Yes, but then of course I need to be staring at the useless info for every email - ugh.  It's just another step backwards in usability for me.  There's iOS and there's MacOS; I really hope Apple remembers that it's two different operating systems for two very different operating environments.

  • How do I upgrade to Snow Leopard (and then Lion) if it's unavailable?

I have an imac that has a 3.06 GHz Intel Core Duo... so, I should be able to run Mountain Lion.  However, my latest OSx update is version 10.5.8.
It looks like I need to update my OS to Snow Leopard before I can upgrade to Mountain Lion but I can't seem to find it available.  It looks like Apple had it available on their site last Fall but it's not there now.  Retail sites don't seem to carry it anymore, either.
What are my options? It seems silly that Apple is no longer offering it for sale when it's necessary to have (for some that don't have it) to upgrade to Mountain Lion.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

    Phone the Apple Store.

  • How can I upgrade from an older OSX to Lion, I do have the requisite processor.  I did not have Snow Leopard, so I do not have the App Store.

The people at the Apple Store told me to wait on an upgrade to Snow Leopard because Lion was coming out soon.   However, without Snow Leopard, I can not get the App Store.
I have OSX 10.58 and a processor big enough to support Lion.

So you need to upgrade to Snow Leoapard first so you can access the Mac App Store in order to download Lion.
Snow Leoapard is available from the online store >  http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM.

  • How can I upgrade from tiger 10.4.11 to Lion?

i have a Macbook and its running tiger 10.4.11, how can i upgrade it to Mac os x lion ?

You have to check to see your MacBook meets the hardware requirements: at least a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7, or Xeon processor, 2 Gb memory, though 4 GB is much better and at least 7 GB free hard drive space.
Thhen you need to buy Snow Leopard, 10.6, and install and upgrade to at least 10.6.6, then purchase from the app store Lion, 10.7 and install.

how do i upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mt Lion?
I am using Mac OSx 6. it doesn't let me download. it says  incompatible

You need to be updated to 10.6.8 which you likely are if you are in the App Store, and second your mac has to be suitable to install MLion. Check this link for supported models.
