How do i upload music from my iphone to my macbook?

How do I put music on my iPhone onto my MacBook?
When I try to sync, I get a message warning me that this will mean I'll lose my music during the sync.
What don't I get here?
Thanks

Hi Steff74,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Depending on where the music on your iPhone is from, you may be able to transfer it or download it directly to your Mac.
This article has a good overview of the options that are available:

So let me see if I've got this straight.  If I rip a cd at home on my Imac, sync with my phone and then take my phone to work the next day I cannot upload that music to my PC ?
Please tell me that's not the case.  If that turns out to be true, ...it will go on the record as the first thing I officially HATE about Apple products.

If the music in question was purchased from the iTunes Store directly to the iPhone, you may find the following article helpful:

  • How can i upload music from my ipod to my macbook air?

hi, how can i upload music from my ipod to my macbook air? thanks.

    Try this.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
However it appears that no playlists or any other info such as ratings/last played etc will transfer.
If this is important to you, you may want to use other options.
There's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod to iTunes.

    Hi aimeefred,
The best way to get your entire iTunes library onto your new Macbook Pro is to copy the Music folder from your old computer.

  • How do I transfer music from my iPhone to my MacBook Air?

    Hi!
I just bought a MacBook Air and I would like to to transfer my music from my iPhone 5C to the MacBook. I tried backing up my iPhone but only about 4 of the songs transferred. Please help me, I'd be so grateful!
    Thanks

The iPhone is not a storage/backup device.  The sync is one way - computer to iPhone.  The only exception is iTunes purchases.  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
You should copy everything ( files/docs/pics/contacts/calendars/music/etc) from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer to your new one

  • HT4527 How do I transfer music from my iPhone to my MacBook Pro?

Hi my computer was recently stolen and now I am trying to transfer the music & photos from my iphone to the new itunes music library and the photos which I had synced from my mac to my phone, back onto the mac. So far I have only been able to transfer the items purchased from itunes. How do I transfer the songs that I had previously had in my library?

The iphone is not a backup device.
The music sync is one way - computer to iphone.  the only exception is itunes purchases.
If your backup copy of your comptuer was not stolen, then use it to put evefrything back.
Otherwise, you may be able to buy software to move the music.

    Hi viper1997,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
There are two ways to get music onto your iPhone.  If you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer, you can setup manual syncing so that you transfer the playlists, artists or albums that you want on your iPhone.
You can also download music you've already purchased from the iTunes store to your iPhone at any time.
The following links will provide additional information to get you started.   You don't mention what computer you are using, so I'll assume a Mac for now, as the basics are the same.

how do I transfer music from my iPhone 4S to my new computer with windows 8 without deleting music off my phone?

What should be done, is to copy your entire iTunes folder from
your old computer to your new one, then open iTunes holding down
the shift key.   You will get prompted to create new or open existing,
select existing and navigate to the iTunes folder and select the
    "iTunes Library.itl" file.
To find were the iTunes folder is:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1391
After doing this, you "should" be able to sync normally.
If you never previously synced to iTunes, then it could be problematic.
