How do I upload only a few lines of a file from the presentation server?

Hi there guys,
I'd like to upload the contents of a file on my HD (presentation server) to an internal table. I know this can be achieved by using the GUI_UPLOAD function module. But what if I only want to upload a part of the file, not the whole thing? Like the first 100 bytes or 10 lines or something like that. Some files are just way too big to upload them as a whole. I tried using the OPEN DATASET statement, but that seems to work only for files on the application server. If I try to open 'C: emp est.txt' (for example) with OPEN DATASET, I get an error. Do I have to put the filename differently or am I totally wrong with OPEN DATASET? I'm kinda stuck here and I'd appreciate your help.

thanks for your reply. If I understand you correctly, this means I will have to wait for GUI_UPLOAD to upload the whole file and afterwards filter into another table. I don't want to upload the whole thing because it's that big, I'd like to only upload a portion of it in the first place. Can this be done?

Hello SAPients.
I'm using OPEN DATASET..., READ DATASET..., CLOSE DATASET to upload a file from the application server (SunOS). I'm working with SAP 4.6C. I'm trying to upload a tab-delimited file to an internal table but when I try load it the fields are not correctly separated, in fact, they are all misplaced and the table shows '#' where supposedly there was a tab.
I tried to SPLIT the line using as separator a variable with reference to CL_ABAP_CHAR_UTILITIES=>HORIZONTAL_TAB but for some reason that class doesn't exist in my system.
Do you know what I'm doing wrong? or Do you know a better method to upload a tab-delimited file into an internal table?

How can I fix my Firefox browser so that PDF files from the Internet do not blur and go out of focus?

When I try to open a PDF document from the Internet, it opens, with sharp resolution; however, within a few seconds, it blurs and seems to have multiple copies being shown on top of each other (ever so slightly mis-aligned). Yet, when I use any other browser, the document opens without losing sharpness.
Also, opening a saved PDF document in Adobe Reader does not cause any loss of sharpness.
Running updated Windows XP; Adobe Reader updated; and Firefox updated.

Firefox's built-in PDF viewer overlays a transparent layer of text over a graphical image so you can copy/paste. It doesn't always line up pixel-perfectly, so if the text is not transparent for some reason, you will see double text.
Could you try switching to the Adobe Acrobat plugin? This article has the steps: [[How to disable the built-in PDF viewer and use another viewer]]. Does that one work correctly?

Moving of flat file from the application server after upload.

Hi All,
I am uploading data from a flat file placed on the application server by a BDC program.
After the BDC has created the session i want to transfer the flat file from that folder to another folder on the application server by changing the name of the flatfile.
Can any one suggest the best way of doing this particular scenario?

I bookmarked a website and wanted to print it. It is about a book. Somehow firefox crashed, and recovered. Now i want to print the the last 8 pages but it prints EVERYTHING AGAIN. I tried copying and pasting, didn't work. I really hope you can help me.

Print range section - Lets you specify which pages of the current web page are printed:

* Select '''Pages''' and enter the range of pages you want to print. For example, selecting "from 1 to 1" prints the first page only.

I guess its the last field in your structure you didn´t get. Right ? Then maybe you exceeded a hardcoded length of about 1000 or 1200 bytes in the FM.

How to select all files from the application server.

I have a requirement to select all files with the same file format I.e i have created no of files with same name but different time stamps addition , now i want to select all the fiels and read the data into an internal table and sort them on the user requirement, I am using FM -
/SAPDMC/LSM_F4_SERVER_FILE to get single file name, i should also give the option on the selection screen for the user to select the file range I.e form which to which the sorting should be done.
could anybody suggest me the function module which selects all the file names .

what method i have to follow ?

I think this is not possible to open a Excel-File from the application server because the Excel format before Office 2007 where a binary format (Suffix: .xls). The newer Office file format (Suffix: xlsx) is a zipped XML Format. To read the binary Excel-Format you need an OLE Connection between SAP GUI and Office. But at the application server in background you doesn't have this OLE Connection.
In my opinion you have two possibilities:
1. Convert all files in the CSV format. This file format can be read with open dataset.
2. Upload the files from the presentation server in forground. There are some funktion modules in the standard which can read the xls format. But they have some limits regarding the length of cells content.
My recommendation is solution no. 1. If you know an VBA expert, he can write an Excel-macro which converts all Excel Files in the CSV-Fomat.

DILogger logs only a few lines

My B1TE DILogger logs only a few lines.
I started using the B1DILogsReader. I added the standard config to my Add-On directory:

I read in the B1TE help file that 'MaxNumOfMsg' is not the problem. That means the number of messages that are queued before writing to the log file.
Another hypothesis was that the DILogger only takes a few threads. Or connections?
Please can someone throw a light on this?

Well, it seems I can answer my own question.
I initiated the B1Connection with:

When adding a connectionType the DILogger continued to log:

Lately pdf files from the Web do not display properly; what is wrong and how can I fix it so I don't have to use IE?

I am a professor and frequently need to open pdfs of academic journal articles from electronic databases. Within the last two or three weeks, when I try to do this using Firefox, only the first page of the pdf displays and the rest are blank. In addition, a bar appears across the top with the message "This pdf file may not display properly." So I have had to switch to Internet Explorer to open the files and do my research. What is going on and how can I fix it so I can open pdf files from the Web in Firefox and have them display properly?

My question is simple - why would you put an application in production that has a lot of bugs? To replace a good and steady Adobe product? My customers will believe that I put a pathetic fallible form online. They are not sophisticated on computers so I just tell them to use IE. Ugh

How to download a file from a custom server location?

I have the following scenario:
A BAPI creates an .exe file and stores it in a custom folder in the server where the portal (and my WD application) is running. This happens once a day.
What I need to do is create a link or button (doesn't matter) so that users can click on it and download this file.
I already checked the file upload - download tutorial (http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/202a850a-58e0-2910-eeb3-bfc3e081257f;jsessionid=%28J2EE3417500%29ID0774236150DB11016171821629714331End?overridelayout=true) however this one considers the file to be downloaded is stored in the src folder of the project, thus it doesn't really help me.
How can I achieve this? Any suggestions and help will be greatly appreciated.

Use File API to read data from the file. It will return byte array from the file. Set Byte array to the file resouce context attribute.
bind this attribute to the filedownload UI element.
Since you need to read file from the same server where webdynpro application is running, You can give the folder path on the server where the file is located.

From list of IAP's in Aruba Central, how do I select only a few of them for license assignment?

Q: I have hundreds of IAPs in the device management page of Aruba Central. How do I select only a few of the them to assign license?
A: Especially, when there is huge list of IAPs showing up in the device management page of Aruba Central, it becomes difficult and time consuming for an administrator to assign license for each IAP and then move on to the other.
This problem was sensed by the Aruba Central development team before hand and put up a solution in place that would help a user to select multiple IAPs from the list and assign licenses to them at once.
Lets understand on how to do the same:
1. Once you login to Aruba Central, click on "All Groups" and move on to 'Device Management" under Maintenance.
2. In the right-pane, you would be presented with the list of IAPs.
3. Now , click on the "Search tool" and it pulls down the fields to enter the search text.
(NOTE: Make sure you have selected ALL in the above drop down. This helps central to search among all IAPs irrespective of group and license assignment.)
4. Enter the Serial Number or MAC address of the IAP or Switch and hit "Search"
5. Here is where the intelligence of Aruba Central comes to play.
From the search result select the IAPs and Central would remember your selected IAPs, even if you change the search string and initiate an other search.
6. Once you finish searching all IAPs that you want to, you can click "Assign License" button in the lower left-corner and move on assigning the licenses to the selected IAPs
