You can try it, but probably not.
This Apple article http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2134 explains that a Firewire-connected, tape-based camera or camcorder mode will work.
If you don't have access to one that works, a simple workaround is to record your video with QuickTimeX Player (the v.10.x one from Lion). You can import that recorded video into iMovie for editing.
If your Mac OS is earlier than Lion whose QuickTime does not offer movie recording as installed, use QuickTime7 Pro for recording.

How can I use an SSD in a 2006 Mac Pro 1,1 2.66Ghz

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to work out how to use my new SSD in an old 2006 MacPro. Bear with me, I'm not an expert and trying to work out what is best for me.
I recently bought a 1TB Samsung SSD 840EVO to use in my old Mac Pro, not to use as my main machine, but as a network slave to save RAM with sound sample libraries.
I also got an Apricorn SATA III Velocity Solo x2 - Extreme Performance SSD Upgrade Kit to get high speeds

After installing the HD using the SATAIII connector in a PCIe slot, I did a hard drive test and realised I could only get about 160mbps, not 300-500mpbs which I think the SSD should run at. I had my friend test it on his machine too, and we realised the problem is the "Link Width" which says "x1" and not "x4" or something, so that the speed isn't running at full speed.
So apparently it's not compatable.
Apparently what I CAN do is install it in a regular Hard Drive bay with a sled, which will be SATA II ... will that work?

SATA II is generally just fine, no fuss no muss, for the system. Using PCIe to boot adds problems and most if not all such PCIe SSD cards do NOT WORK in 32-bit Mac Pro 1,1 and 2,1 (and the 3,1 is also sometimes difficult with some cards).
Data uses though are useful, work, and benefit. Lightroom, Aperture, scratch, even iPhoto - all those graphic libraries.
I would rewrite and make it "will the native SATA II drive bays" work, and the answer to that is YES. But not faster.
You have a 4x and 8x slot, so one of those is fine.
It is the reads and zero latency seeks along with queue depth and high 90K IOs per sec that help an SSD shine.
Putting a 250GB or 500GB EVO 840 is the easiest and best return on system improvement you can make for $120-240 (plus $14 for Icy Dock adapter).
Even the 2008 has two 4x PCIe 1.1 slots. The 2009 has PCIe 4x 2.1 slots that share bandwidth and cap out (only learned from stripping SSDs using two PCIe cards and 2-4 SSDs), so they aren't perfect either! ONLY the 5,1 really has the best PCIe design and setup.
Sonnet only supports or recommends their Tempo Pro which is what I bought, so I don't know off hand how well yours works and if it even will. Some cards do require EFI 64-bit, AND 10.8.x or later, and maybe even PCIe 2.0 - but only to work, ie they don't work or not supported in PCIe 1.0... but NOT about the bandwidth.
Booting in 10 seconds is nice. Launching a full dozen apps in 10 seconds (and ready to use) also. Only larger program suites takes 20 seconds now.
250MB/sec is nothing to sneeze at when it comes to boot drive SSD.

FCE 3.0 was not designed to work with Intel based Macs when they were introduced years ago so you have no chance with a modern Mac.
You must upgrade to FCE 4 unless you want to move onto Final Cut Pro X which is designed to be used with the latest technology.
Final Cut Studio 3 will also work OK.

The iphone is a "plug and play" device. It is safe to unplug it without "ejecting it". If you want to be sure it is safe open itunes and under devices next to your iphone you should see the eject symbol like a line with an up arrow above it, click that. Once you no longer see the iphone listed under devices it'll be safe to remove.

You can disable the internal bluetooth radio. As long as you have drivers for your USB Bluetooth adapter you should be able to use it.

Adding a USB 3.0+eSATA PCIe card, which The hatter mentions, is the best solution that I've found. See http://eshop.macsales.com/item/CalDigit/FASTA6GU3/. The card is not cheap, but the USB 3.0 works flawlessly (which can't be assumed; ask me how I know) and the eSATA connection allows booting from the connected drive. Grant Bennet-Alder's point about HD speed is important to consider; in addition, the size of the individual files being backed up and where on the backup disk they're going will affect overall transfer speed. For example, using the USB 3.0 connection on that CalDigit card going to a Toshiba 3TB external, the transfer rate for a big file (say a virtual machine file) from an internal SSD boot drive was about 145 MB/sec while a bunch of little files might drop to 30 MB/sec and both rates decrease as an inner partition on the external is used. All told, a nearly 700 GB backup took under 1.5 hours. Using a HD as the source added almost an extra hour, though a WD external was used for that. The first MacBook Pro's were not released until the beginning of 2006, and they had USB 2 ports.
Anything available new in 2005 would have been a PowerBook G4 and they also had USB 2 ports.
A USB 3 disk will just transfer data slower then it could do, if you plug it into a USB 2 port though, so you can buy either.
