I would like to download and upload from my iPad to my new timecapsule?
However, I can only access the wireless and settings by using the airport utility...

You might want to take a look at an App like FileBrowser for the iPad to do what you want with the Time Capsule.
App Store - FileBrowser - Access files on remote computers

  • Using disk utility with Time Capsule backup disk

When backing up, i get an error msg that tells me to run disk utility on my backup drive. It says it's having problems coping files. In Disk Utiltiy, I don't see a way to choose the time capsule backup drive but only the hard drive on my laptop. Help pls.

The error message is fundamentally stupid. You cannot use disk utility on a network drive.
You can however fix or test the sparsebundle which is the virtual disk file TM creates on the TC.

When having difficulties accessing the Time Capsule (TC) via the AirPort Utility, try the following, in order checking accessibility with the utility after each step:
Check the local connection. If you are trying to access the TC wirelessly, make sure that you are connected to its wireless network before running the AirPort Utility to administer it. If you are still unable to access it with the utility, temporarily connect your computer directly using an Ethernet cable to one of the TC's LAN ports.
Power cycle the base station. Remove the power adapter's plug from the power outlet, and then, wait 15 seconds before plugging it back in.
Perform a "factory default" reset on the base station.
Finally, if you are attempting to access the TC via an Ethernet connection, be sure that your Ethernet port is NOT configured for Jumbo Frames, i.e., using an MTU of 9000+.

  • Time Machine, AirPort Utility, and Time Capsule broken in Mavericks?

Hi all, I’ve got a befuddling Time Machine/Time Capsule/Airport problem that I can’t seem to sort out.
On my pristine 2-day-old iMac (late 2013, running 10.9.1), I’m trying to set up Time Machine to back up to a new-ish 3TB Time Capsule. Initially it worked fine for the first backup, but subsequent backups failed because “backup disk could not be found.”
So I tried giving the TC a shorter name. The first backup under the new name worked a treat, but subsequent backups failed.
In Time Machine system pref pane, I deleted the Time Capsule, intending to try again with a new, even shorter name. But then when I went into AirPort Utility to change the Time Capsule name, it told me that “no configured AirPort base stations have been found.” I assumed that I was just deleting it as a choice on the  backup disk list, but now I'm wondering, did the Time Machine pref actually delete the actual disk? In the AirPort Utility window, Time Capsule appears in the "other wi-fi" devices list, yet when I click it, it says "error reading settings."
Here are some other random details that may or may not pertain:
On the new iMac, I tried to mount the TC disk image, but Connect To Server reports that the connection fails because “the server may not exist or is unavailable.”
Although the Time Capsule shows up in the sidebar of the Finder window, “getting info” just produces the spinning wheel.
Although AirPort utility says that it can’t find the Time Capsule, the TC is nevertheless connecting to the internet just fine. All household devices are online, including iPhones and iPads.
On the old Mac Pro running 10.8, Time Capsule, Time Machine, and AirPort Utility all behave normally.
I thought I might try resetting the Time Capsule, but will this erase all the backups (from other computers around the house all running 10.8x without problems of any kind) that are on there? The other computer users will definitely squawk about that!
I hope this tirade makes some sense. Thanks for reading!

Rather than chop up your post I have taken the liberty to number the points.
    1. When you deleted the TC in the airport utility you simply changed its ability to display the errant device. You did not actually delete anything on the TC itself.
Getting back a lost Airport.. more below.
    2. Please give actual command you used.. and the name..
It is most important that you translate the name from Apple name to actual network name. That is why I constantly hammer on about using network names.. short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
So Fred Blog's Airport Time Capsule  apart from being hopelessly wrong.
Is translated by Apple to the Network name.. Fred-Blogs-Airport-Time-Capsule (note.. no spaces and no special characters.. the apostrophe is deleted).
It can be much easier to just use IP address.. if the TC is the main router.. then it will hold a constant IP.. by default 10.0.1.1
So mount the TC as AFP://10.0.1.1
    3. That is standard.. it is a network device and will not show info. Same on any computer in your network.. same on any OS.
    4. Yes, that is standard.. the location of the hard disk is lost.. but the internet is still working.. This is the bug that has been around since Lion and is still growing worse with each revision.
    5. Again standard. the issue is on the computer or the interaction of the two.. computer and TC.. yet other computers are unaffected.
    6. Reset of the TC is fine.. no reset, soft hard or factory will ever delete the hard disk files.
But if you change the name of the TC, you will need to go around to all the computers and setup TM again to point to the right target.. none of the backups are lost.. you just need to tell TM where they got to.
Manual setup of the lost TC.
In Airport utility go to the top menu, open configure other.. and type in the IP address of the TC that got lost.
no password needed unless you set something .. if it doesn't work the default is public

  • My airport utility says it cannot find any airport wireless devices, even though I am accessing the net via my wifi.  What's up with this?

My airport utility says it cannot find any airport wireless devices, even though I am accessing the net via my wifi.  What's up with this?  Also, I cannot connect to my Photosmart b209a printer, though a different computer - same Macbook Pro can.  I tried redownloading the software, but in the setup I get a "device not reachable" message:  "However to continue configuring the device in network, your Mac must have access to the device. So please make sure that your Mac has access to the Network ..."  I've checked my network on the system preferences and it's properly connected.  I'm on the net as I do this.  Tis very frustrating, and any assistance woud be appreciated.

Airport Utility is for administration of genuine Apple Base Stations. If you have a different Brand, Airport Utility can do nothing for you.
    I think they're using ethernet.
To connect a Printer via Ethernet, no password is needed.
We already tried the password for the internet and that did not work...
If a password is required to connect to the Internet, then WiFi is likley being used, and that WiFi password is the one needed for the Printer connect wirelessly as well.
What make&model Printer? Is it indeed a Wireless Printer? Most connect via USB, but that would force it to use a specific computer to assist in printing.

How can I Bkp my Iphone with Time Capsule?

No, you will have to re-create the playlists manually on the computer.  Did you somehow delete your iTunes Library and the content that exists within that library?  If you attempt to sync the phone with an iTunes Library that does not have all the content that the phone has, then the content on the phone will be replaced with the content from the computer.

  • I'm trying to extend my wifi network with time capsule but it can't find the existing wifi network

I'm trying to extend my wifi network with time capsule but it can't find the existing BT wifi network even though it is there with a good signal strength. The Time Capsule is connected to a Netgear router via ethernet.

You will need to start over on the setup of the Time Capsule as follows:
Disconnect any Ethernet cables that might be connected to the Time Capsule, but leave it powered on
Hold in the reset button on the back of the Time Capsule for 8-10 seconds and release. The reset button is located next to the AC power socket.
Allow a full minute for the Time Capsule to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
Connect the Ethernet cable from a LAN <--> port on the Netgear to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule.  The Ethernet cable must remain connected at all times.
Click the WiFi icon at the top of the Mac's screen
Look for a setting of New AirPort Base Station
    Click on Time Capsule
The example below shows an AirPort Express. You will see Time Capsule on your screen.
That will get the setup wizard going. It will take a minute to analyze the settings, then display a screen that looks like this, except you will see a picture of the Time Capsule
Network Name..........Type in the exact name that the Netgear wireless is using
Base Station.............Type in a name that you want to call the Time Capsule.  Use something short and simple. Mine is TC, for example
Password..................Type in the exact password that the Netgear wireless requires
    Verify.........................Verify the Password again
    Click Next
The setup wizard will configure everything for you automatically.  When you see the message of Setup Complete, click Done.
That's it.  Now you have one big "extended" network.  Technically, this is called a "roaming" network.

  • Hi iv got a sky router downstairs and a time capsule up stairs how do i set it up so that it just extends the sky wifi and then the hard drive in the time capsule is accessible from all over the house thanks

hi iv got a sky router downstairs and a time capsule up stairs how do i set it up so that it just extends the sky wifi and then the hard drive in the time capsule is accessible from all over the house thanks

Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <--> ports on the back of the Sky router to the WAN (circle of dots icon) port on the back of the Time Capsule. This connection must be maintained at all times.
Then, using the setup "wizard" on your iMac illustrated below, configure the Time Capsule to create a wireless network that uses the exact same wireless network name and password that the Sky router is using.
You can get the setup wizard going in several different ways, but the simplest might be to click the WiFi icon at the top of the Mac's screen and then click on Time Capsule under the heading of New AirPort Base Station.
The wizard will open up and analyze the network, then the suggest the correct setup. The example below shows an older AirPort Express that is about to be setup in the same way. You will see a Time Capsule icon on your screen when you run the setup wizard.

  • IPad2 internet connection "disconnected" shown in AirPort Utility with Time capsue

Hi, our internet connection through our Time Capsule is working well with MacBook Air and Macmini but not iPad2.
In the AirPort Utility app of iPad2 there is a green spot at the picture of Time Capsule but there is a orange spot at the picture of the globe.  While in MacBook it is green both the globe and Time Capsule.
In AirPort Utility app of iPad2 after tapping at the globe the internet connetion show "Disconnected"
We are under proxy internet connection.
Wireless internet connection of this iPad2 was OK with other networks.
    Please suggest some solutions.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the discussions, MindSprout!
I'm following your post with interest because I have an HP 6210 as well with a 1TB Time Capsule. No issues at all since it was installed over a year ago. I'm not using Snow Leopard (yet), so can't offer any comments as to whether that might be one of the possible issues here, but that was my first thought.
If I get SL installed this weekend, I will post back with results.
The other thought that comes to mind is that there may be a problem with the printing instructions passing through the USB port on your TC. I can't answer why a hard drive functions perfectly, though.

  • Airport Utility Recognizing Time Capsule

    Hi,
I've read through some of the posts regarding this problem, but could not see that anyone had found a definitive way of solving it so I wanted to add my question to the mix.
I just bought a Time Capsule and have encountered the following problem in setting it up. The very first time I plugged in the TC and brought up AirPort Utility on my MacBook Pro, TC came up in the list on the left. I went through the process of configuring it in there and got to the end. Then APU said it was restarting the TC. It did this for a while and then the program timed out and stopped doing anything. I've been unable to get APU to recognize the TC again. I've tried wirelessly, I've tried connecting the laptop to the TC with an ethernet cable, nothing.
I already have a wireless router and my internet connection has been unaffected by my problems with the TC. Can anyone give me some help? I'd primarily like to use the TC as a wireless backup drive (don't really care about using it to connect to the internet). I also have another laptop (another MacBook pro bought last week) that I'd like to put on eventually as well. But would be satisfied with one for now.
I've got the latest versions of OS X and APU, and I've turned AirPort off and on, I've turned the TC off and on and still nothing. The blinking amber light is all I get.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks.

If you cannot access Time Capsule via AirPort Utility, try a hard reset and start setup procedure again.

  • Airport Express with Time Capsule

    Hi
I am attempting to create the following setup and would like advice as to the best way to go about it:
In my house I have a Time Capsule connected to an incoming internet connection (from a cable modem) creating a WiFi network
I have a 'home office' at the end of the garden and have taken one ethernet output from the back of the TC and extended that to the office using a couple of TP Link Powerline adapters
The intention is to connect an Airport Express in the office connected to the TP Link adapter to create a WiFi network for the office
How should I set up the TC and AE to make this work? I have tried a few things using Airport Utility but no joy yet!
    Many thanks in advance
PS Wasn't sure whether to post this here or in the TC discussion group so I have copied it there also.

    Hi Bob (and everyone else)
Firstly - sorry about the tardy response! I should have known that the winter holiday would interrupt my train of thought on this - but thanks for your suggestions. So:
I have checked the powerline connection - no problem there (using it to connect by cable as I write)
    I then tried the following:
I set up AE to extend the wireless connection network as suggested. The AE works fine while in wireless range of the TC. When connected by cable to the powerline adapter in the office it does not, presumably as the office is out of wireless range of the TC??
Alternatively if I am to set up the AE to create a new wireless network, how should I do that so that IP addresses/DHCP etc does not cause conflict?
    Many thanks

  • Using Linksys router with Time Capsule / Airtunes...

    Hi,
Does anyone have any idea how I can use my old Linksys WRT54G wireless router with my Time Capsule in such a way that the WRT54G provides a b/g network and I can have my Time Capsule provide just 802.11n for the best possible speed?
I have the two connected via Ethernet (TC connected directly to my cable modem) but don't seem to be able to get things to work.
I know I must be on the edge of getting this to work but am obviously missing the final step...
Cheers in advance for any help you can give,
    Adi :o)

  • Slow Performance when using USB HD with Time Capsule

I have a 500 GB Time Capsule that I primarily use for network storage for 4 computers (3 Windows and a MacBook Pro). There is about 250 GB of data on the TC. After doing my research, I hooked up a 2 TB WD My Book to the TC USB port (after first reformatting the My Book using Mac OS Extended (Journaled). TC recognized the NAS HD just fine, but when I tried moving files from the TC to the My Book, it took FOREVER. 66 hrs to copy all 250 GB; 46 hours to move 60GB). I tried connecting the My Book directly to my MB Pro via USB and files moved quickly (15 minutes for 10GB). With the My Book connected to the MB Pro, I can access TC over Wifi and copy files directly onto the My Book in little time (again about 15 min for 10 GB). Any idea why the USB transfer rate between TC and the NAS is so slow? I have the most current TC firmware.

Plus that was talking about a 2002 Airport Extreme base station, whereas I have a 2009 Time Capsule.
As I mentioned above, the source I quoted is from last year. The thread I cited mentions nothing about
a particular year of base station. Where do you see that stuff?
As for my wifi connection, it seems very fast in all respects. As I mentioned, when I connect the external HD to my MacBook Pro and transfer files over my wifi from the Time Capsule, it boogies along. At any rate, I am not sure why the wifi would have an affect on the transfer rate of 2 disks connected by a USB cable.
My point was that, if that data has to travel over your Wi-Fi connection, the quality of that connection could affect the transfer speed you see. To investigate that possibility, I'd connect your Mac to the AirPort base station via Ethernet, turn your Mac's AirPort circuitry off, and repeat your tests that way.
