How do I use HDMI output to my TV?

I have a new MacBook Pro. I have the HDMI connector to go to my tv. It just shows my background no icons nothing.....

If the TV is capable of 1920 x 1080 resolution, as most are nowadays, and your MBP's built-in screen is not, using display mirroring will unavoidably produce a blurry image on the TV. You won't want that. Unless you have a 17" MBP with a 1920 x 1080 built-in screen, don't use mirroring.

  • HELP! Lightroom Crashes Only with Adjustment Brush and only when using HDMI output!

This is very frustrating. I use my Acer N56V laptop to teach Lightroom workshops. I use a 32 inch television as a display. When I have my laptop attached with an HDMI cable and try to use Lightroom's adjustment brush, it crashes. Either the screen and computer just shuts down or I get the Blue Screen of Death. I can do anything else! I can edit in Photoshop, do anything else in Lightroom or even Silver EFX Pro. I can even click on the adjustment brush. But the minute the brush hits the photo (and not before), the computer crashes. If I don't have it attached to the HDMI or if I use a Serial cable, no issues. It's only the adjustment brush and only the HDMI output.
I called Adobe and they said it was because my onboard video card was primary and not the Nvidia. I called Acer and they said it's auto detect. I also tried making the Nvidia card primary and it still happened. Any ideas???

You have switched the overlay mask to always show. Fortunately, it's easy fixed i.e. tap the O key. Shift+O will cycle the overlay through various colours

  • How do automate using two output types in an invoice based on plant

    Hello,
Can you tell me how to configure automatically two output types for the same invoice.
My client has business in USA and Europe. We are using only one sales organization. But we need to print invoices in letter size and A4 size depending on whether the invoice is created in europe or in USA. So , I have created two output types, one for letter size and one for A4 size. How do I configure so that if it is based in a plant/shipping point in Europe it is printed using the A4  output type else in letter size. Please suggest.
    SAPSDUSER

I do not think you can use plant/shipping point in your access sequence for invoice output on header level, unless you add these fields to header level kommunication structure and populate these fields in userexit.
    You can either
    1. define requirement routines for your 2 output types which are mutually exclusive (if plant = A routine 1 returns sy-subrc = 0, routine 2 returns sy-subrc <>0, if plant = B routine 1 returns sy-subrc <>0, routine 2 returns sy-subrc = 0). You can assign requirements to output type either in output determination procedure OR in the access sequence. I would do it in output determination procedure. Check transactions NACO or NACE.
    OR
    2. add your fields to komkbv3 communication structure, populate your fields in thsi structure in userexits which are called from the function module komkbv3_fill and then you can either use then in the access sequence for your output types or create routines as in case 1. but the logic will be a simple check statement since KOMKBV3 is available in these routines.
    3. In fact you can use one output type and select your layout in the print program itself... which may be even easier for you. We use this approach to select proper layout for GEOs which may have several layouts depending on region for example... so the output type is defined per country, then layout is selected by print program. (tnapr-fonam = ..., nast-spras = proper language, set country '' to use proper decimal & date format...)

  • Solution for using HDMI output to devices not supporting HDCP

I read a number of similar posts about this issue and wanted to share my experience on it, propose a possible solution and ask if anyone else has already tried it.
    Symptom
The symptom is that when playing rented content (some have reported this with purchased content as well, but that's not my experience) *you hear audio, but see either a black or a white screen with no video*.
    _My Experience_
I had this problem with my Boxlight Cinema 17SF projector, which is a few years old. It has a DVI input, so seeking to get the best picture possible, rather than connecting the Apple TV to the projector using a component video cable, I tried to use an HDMI to DVI cable. It looked great for TV shows and purchased movies, but when trying to view movie rentals I was hearing audio, but seeing only a black screen. I called Apple support, told them about the problem and gave them my exact configuration, but they didn't have any suggestions to offer beyond restoring to factory defaults and upgrading. I tried this, and tried every possible video resolution and projector setting, but after days spent on it, nothing would solve the problem.
    _Background on the Problem_
After reading some posts from helpful users in the Apple TV forum, and after some googling, I found that this problem happens when users try to use an HDMI to DVI cable to connect the Apple TV to an older display device, such as a high definition TV or projector. As it turns out, content played over the HDMI connector is protected using HDCP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDCP, http://www.projectorpeople.com/cables/HDCP_DVI.asp).
Essentially, in order to properly display content, the display device needs an HDCP chipset from a subsidiary of Intel, which older devices do not have (plus for HDMI, HDCP support is mandatory but for DVI, it's optional). If your display device does not have this chipset, or worse yet, if it has the chipset but it isn't compatible with the Apple TV version of the chipset, video content will not display and you'll typically get a black or white screen. Apple must have gotten a number of support calls on this, as I read in a recent post that they no longer support using HDMI to DVI cables to connect your Apple TV to your display device. Aha.
    _Component Video_
One of the nice things about component video is that there's no HDCP to worry about. You can use the component video output on the Apple TV to connect to your display device, and you'll be able to view all content. In my case, I'm using a component video to SVGA adapter. It works, and I can view all content, purchased or rented.
Unfortunately, however, aside from component video being an analog rather than a digital signal, the component output on the Apple TV is crippled and only supports 480i resolution. So if you have a high definition device and want to use component video at higher resolutions than 480i to watch your high definition movies, you're out of luck.
Just as an aside, component video looks best for me when I go into the settings and first try to select 720p resolution. I hear two "beep beep" sounds (the same sound as when you try to navigate beyond the end of a menu) and briefly see a menu showing that the Apple TV is canceling the resolution change for me (holy cow that's weak, they crippled this at the interface level), and the Apple TV forces me back to 480i. However, for some reason the contrast is better after this, colors are better and blacks are much deeper. Despite this unexplained oddity which may only be true for my Cinema 17SF DLP projector, the resolution is still limited to 480i.
    _Possible Solution?_
After some more googling, I ran into this device called an HDFury at http://www.hdfury.com/. Apparently, it's an HDMI to VGA/component video converter that strips HDCP from the video and allows the use of resolutions up to 1080p. There are two versions, the HD Fury and the HD Fury 2. Although it's pricey, I'm going to give the HD Fury 2 a try. Even though it wouldn't be a digital connection to my projector, at least it should allow me to use 720p or 1080p, in theory.
I should point out that I'm not sure about the legality of this device. Essentially you're removing something that was supposed to be there to prevent people from copying digital content, but regarding this I think a couple of things: 1) It's only an analog output (SVGA or component), so you're not getting the original digital data and 2) you're using this for personal use, or you should be. You're not using it to circumvent the DRM, but only so that you can view the content you've rightfully purchased or rented.
So, *has anyone tried this device with the Apple TV*, or discovered another way to get all available resolutions when displaying on older high-definition devices using DVI or component video? I'll wait a few days for responses, then go ahead and buy one and post again about my results with it. Thanks for any advice.

I have an update on this that should clarify one critical thing and make my original premise about the use of an HD Fury unnecessary (although the content of the post might still be useful). I had thought that the component video output on the Apple TV was crippled to 480i, but it's not.
What was happening to me was that 720p and 1080i resolutions were taking a long time to sync on my projector, so I was never seeing the Cancel/OK menu that comes up to accept the resolution. I thought that the Apple TV was selecting Cancel for me, but it wasn't, it was just timing out because I never accepted the new resolution.
So, if you KNOW that your device supports the resolution you're selecting (such as 720p) and your device is just taking a long time to sync, select the new resolution, wait a second then press down and OK on your remote, even though you don't see anything. You'll accept the new resolution.
However, *if you do this and the new resolution doesn't work, you could be hosed*. I suggest that if this is the case, remember the remote keypresses necessary to back out and reverse the change. For example, remember the number of times you need to press up or down to return to your original resolution, then hit OK, down then OK to go back to a safe resolution, like 480i.
At least now, I'm able to use 720p or 1080i with the component video output, and it works with both rented and purchased videos. It still doesn't work with the HDMI -> DVI cable, but the use of the HD Fury should be unnecessary when the Apple TV component output supports all resolutions.

  • How can I use FREQ_OUT output frequency signal

Now,I use VXI-MIO-64E-1 board and Windows/CVI,I want to know how can I use FREQ_OUT single.
    Thanks a lot,
    Wang

The Frequency Scalar of the DAQ-STC based devices is essentially a third counter that can be programmed only for continuous pulse train generation. See the knowledgebase link below for more info on this. Since this counter is only four bits, this limits the clock divisors to 2^4 or 1 thru 16. Therefore the only frequencies that can be programmed for output on the FREQ_OUT line are timebase / (integer between 1 and 16).
How do I use the FREQ_OUT pin on my E series board?
According to the NI-DAQ Function Reference Manual, the signal name should be ND_FREQ_OUT. The source can then be ND_NONE, ND_INTERNAL_20_MHZ, or ND_INTERNAL
_100_KHZ. sourcespec would follow respectively as ND_DONT_CARE, 1 through 16, or 1 through 16. Note that selecting ND_NONE will disable output on the FREQ_OUT pin.
    Thanks,
    Heath

  • How can I use the output value from SIMPLE PID to write something to the serial port?

I am working on my Senior Design Project that requires the use of incoming compressed air, propotional valves, continuous servo motors, and a serial servo motor microcontroller.  I have figured out how to send byte sequences to the microcontroller through LabVIEW using the VISA serial write function.  The motors are attached to the valves to control the flow rate.  I have created my own simple feedback system using a bunch of case structures but I realized that I am basically trying to recreate the wheel (I basically was writing my own PID VI).   I have an older version of LabVIEW (7.0 Express) and theres no way to upgrade or buy the PID toolkit, so I am stuck using the Simple PID VI.  Also, the only way the motor works is sending an array of bytes to tell it to turn on/off, direction, and speed.  Is there any way I can use the Simple PID VI in conjunction with the VISA SERIAL write function, or is there any other way I can communicate with the serial port using this pid vi?  Any information would be appreciated.

    Hi gpatel,
you know how to communicate to serial port, but you don't know how to send a value from SimplePID to serial port???
You know how to communicate, but then you don't know how to communicate???
You should explain this in more detail...
    Edit:
From you first post you know what values your motor driver is expecting. You know which values the PID.vi is providing. Now all you need is a formula to reshape the values from PID to the motor. It's up to you to make such a formula. Unless you provide any details we cannot give more precise answers...

  • Logic Pro X 5.1 surround HDMI output

It seems that Logic Pro X (all Logic versions for that matter) cannot use HDMI output for 5.1 surround mixing. Yet all the preference settings in Logic, in Apple Sound and in Midi/Audio Interface utility seem to indicate that it should be possible.
Has anyone ever had any success ??
If not, what is the best alternative ?
I have an Impact Twin that can have 8 optical outputs going to a DAC then to a 6-8 channel amplifier or 6-8 amplified speakers. Expensive proposition when an HDMI would be so much simpler and cheaper.
Thanks in advance to PanCenter for his comments.

Hello octopi - wanted to answer earlier when I get all hooked up, tested and running, but got caught up in some other business.
In any case, you'll find pretty well all the info you need from this thread. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3639822
In short, you can get 5.1 out of a Mac by 3 avenues :
    1. mini HDMI (Mac) to HDMI (AV amp) - for Mac products since late 2009 - or
    2. headphone converted to SPDIF (Mac) to SPDIF (AV amp) - for Mac products a bit before that (2006???).
    3. an external sound card, either USB (as early as USB 1.1) or FireWire.
For recent Macs, there is also the Thunderbolt option which doubles as a HDMI.
There are also FireWire to HDMI adapters, but I'm not sure how that would work.
For the soundcard options, you need the right amount of audio outputs - 6, for 5.1 - many are 8, which gets you up to 7.1 And of course, you need amps for all those outputs, or powered speakers. Not a cheap avenue.
For the HDMI or SPDIF avenues, you need an AV amp to do the Digital to Analog Conversion, plus an appropriate wattage distribution, the sub needing much more power than the satellites, etc. So there is lot of processing to do on the fly, and that's why there are no special computer speakers with HDMI or SPDIF inputs - would almost be as expensive as an AV amp.
The HDMI and SPDIF are not equivalents. For one, the SPDIF goes only up to 5.1 whereas HDMI can go to 7.1 (or more?). But more importantly, transfers through SPDIF are downmixed to stereo then upmixed to original format - a point that caused some confusion on the posts. In any case, that will work fine for most DVDs played on the Mac or Movies played through iTunes & Quick time.
But if you want to work with 6 (or more) distinct PCM audio files, like you would if working with Logic Pro or Final Cut, then you need to go the HDMI route.
Btw, all AV amps, even the cheaper ones, are supposed to be able to read PCM - it's mandatory. Check here : http://www.the-home-cinema-guide.com/dolby-ac-3.html#axzz37kwyN8FK
But get an AV amp that can read Blu-Ray which can process up to eight PCM channels in 48kHz/24bit depth.
    Hopes that helps. Phil

  • How to change 5.1 output channels?

I have set the output channels of 5.1 surround in the AUDIO MIDI SETUP to physical outputs 5-10. Soundtrack PRO still uses its own selection/order of 5.1 outputs (ie 1-6). How can I use other outputs of my audio interface?
    Tnx,
    Kustav

Change the outputs? ... you can't .... STP ignores the AudioMidi setup output allocations and has no internal system for assigning channel outputs to hardware outputs ... how could this be? ... how could Apple violate its own CoreAudio principles ...
The only workaround I've found is to use Cycling74's Soundflower audio routing tool ... Google it ... it's still not Leopard native, tho I think some folk have had luck with it ...
Maybe Apple will get around to adding what is essentially "basic" routing features to the next update ...

  • How do I use my late 2011 iMac ( with thunderbolt) as external monitor for laptop/Xbox or other device with hdmi as output.

May be this question has been asked thousand times. how do I use my mid 2011 iMac ( with thunderbolt) as external monitor for laptop/Xbox or other device with hdmi as output. if apple hasn't removed that feature and has just moved that functinoality to thunderbolt then how can I use it. currently there is no laptop available with thunderbolt output. no 3rd party converter available. whats the use of having feature on latest functionality if we cant use it. I wish they would have made one port has mini-dvi and other thunderbolt for backward compatibility untill some vendor comes up with converter.

    It Says :
Mac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011) and iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) and later computers support Target Display Mode via Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt cable (2 m) when the source is another Thunderbolt-equipped computer.
Name one computer model/vendor which has thunderbolt as output for display + audio. this is so stupid to move to new technology without availbility of its compatible devices.
