How do I use internet sharing from my MacBook Pro (static IP, only one DNS server) to my iPod Touch?

Hey,
I'm connecting to the net using an Ethernet cable to my MacBook with the following network settings.
IP Address: 192.168.y.{0-250}
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Router: 192.168.y.x (where 'y' is the same number as in the IP address)
DNS Server: 192.168.99.3
Apologies if I'm being unclear; not sure how much information it's OK to share publicly.
I then turn on Airport and Internet Sharing, and look for my wireless network with my 4th generation iPod Touch. However, the network appears erratically. I sometimes have to wait for a minute or two and keep refreshing before it appears on my iTouch. When I try to connect it just says 'Failed to connect to the network'.
I've followed all the steps in this article with several variations to no avail.

Can anyone suggest a solution? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've been banging my head against this for days.

On the advice of a friend I installed and ran a program on my MacBook called 'IPSecuritas'. This has stopped my wireless network from appearing and disappearing, but I still can't connect. Would really appreciate some help with this.

  • How to setup Internet Sharing from new MacBook Pro to iMac G4?

    Hey everyone,
I have a new 2011 MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard (10.6.7) and an iMac G4 running Panther (10.3.9).
The iMac doesn't have an AirPort card and the easiest way to get internet on it seems to be Internet Sharing.
I want to setup Internet Sharing from the MBP's Airport via ethernet to the iMac's ethernet, but am having trouble configuring the IP addresses etc to get the iMac to comply.
Your help and advice is much appreciated

  • Help with using internet sharing on my MacBook Pro with an old mac mini

I have an old mini osx 10.4.11 with no wifi.  My much newer MacBookPro osx10.6.7 can't seem to share it's internet connection between it and the mini via ethernet cable.  I'm using the MacBook airport to connect to my SMC router.
The DHCP on the mini has an IP, and it seems correct.  But, I can't get a browser to connect.  Can someone suggest a way to troubleshoot?

That is the more difficult of the forms of Internet sharing possible on a Mac. Of course the easiest thing to do is put out US$100 and just get an AirPort Express and connect the mini to the Express' Ethernet port. The mini would have the fastest connection that your router puts out with none of the hassles of connecting and disconnecting when you want to leave with the MacBook.
Read over my last comment in this thread for the configuration of wi-fi to Ethernet. Just substitute the mini for the XBox.

  • Internet sharing from my macbook pro to my iPhone 5

I have changed the MAC address on my macbook pro. This was successful and i continue to use the internet using the internal router also to provide wifi internet to my iPhone. However, since changing the MAC address, i am prompted to put my password in to access the wifi via the macbook pro, it doesn't seem to recognise my password and doest allow the phone to access the internet..... it appears as if since applying the new MAC address, it has given it a new password and i cannot find it..
Any help with this problem would be much appreciated...

10.4.9 is a very old operating system.  10.4.11 Intel Combo may improve some matters on 10.4 for free.   Why would you need to change the MAC address?

It depends upon how the other machines are connecting to your MBA:
If the the other machines are also using wi-fi, they can connect directly to the wireless access point (router) without going through your MBA
If the other machines are connecting to the MBA using ethernet you can share your wi-fi connection to them

How do I move a document from my MacBook Pro to my iPad?

What kind of document is it?  Keep in mind that you may need an app on the iPad to do anything with the document.  You can sync documents to particular apps by opening iTunes with your iPad connected, select the iPad in iTunes and click the Apps tab:
Then scroll down to the File Sharing area, select the target app and drag a document to the Documents box.
Alternately, you could use something like Dropbox to sync documents between your MBP and your iPad, as well as any other devices you like.

  • How can I make a backup from my Macbook Pro?

How can I make a backup from my Macbook Pro?

    Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
    1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
    2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
         drive being backed up.
See Mac Basics- Time Machine. Please visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Get Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. Synk Pro
      6. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files. For help with using Time Machine visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.
Although you can buy a complete external drive system, you can also put one together if you are so inclined.  It's relatively easy and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver (typically.)  You can purchase hard drives separately.  This gives you an opportunity to shop for the best prices on a hard drive of your choice.  Reliable brands include Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Toshiba, and Fujitsu.  You can find reviews and benchmarks on many drives at Storage Review.
    Enclosures for FireWire and USB are readily available.  You can find only FireWire enclosures, only USB enclosures, and enclosures that feature multiple ports.  I would stress getting enclosures that use the Oxford chipsets especially for Firewire drives (911, 921, 922, for example.)  You can find enclosures at places such as;
      1. Cool Drives
      2. OWC
      3. WiebeTech
      4. Firewire Direct
      5. California Drives
      6. NewEgg
All you need do is remove a case cover, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and connect the cables, then re-attach the case cover.  Usually the only tool required is a small or medium Phillips screwdriver.

How do I use iCloud to backup my Macbook Pro?

    Hi Rob
It sounds like my problem is the same as yours..... Sorry, but I'm a bit of an iPad dummy so am writing for some more clarification...
My problem is..... I am away from home and only travelling with my iPad, however we have sold our house and my bigpond email address on my iPad is getting clogged with all the solicitors stuff etc, so I really need these emails for my files...
I want to be able to backup these up (so that I can retrieve them later to print out and file) and delete them from my iPad...
I've just created an iCloud email account (I think) is this what you did? So should I forward all my emails to this iCloud email account? And will I be able to retrieve them later?
I hope you login here to see my question.....
    Thanks Janet

  • How may I transfere PDF files from my MacBook Pro to my IPAD

How may I transfer PDF files from my MacBook Pro to my IPAD

There are a number of methods, including via synch to iTunes on a computer and emailing them to yourself.
I prefer using DropBox, which allows me to store them in the cloud and download only when needed, and send them to the app I choose (plus I do not synch my iPad to itunes). I typically use GoodReader or Adobe Reader, but any app that can read PDFs is typically available in the menu. You would need to install DropBox on the Mac as well as download the app on the iPad. Both are free.

  • Auto sync is not working. How can I manually transfer music from my macbook pro iTunes to iphone 5?

Auto sync is not working. How can I manually transfer music from my macbook pro iTunes to iphone 5? My iMatch is turned on and I can direct downlad my music to the iPhone from the Cloud; however, I want to direct import All of my music from iTunes to my iPhone 5 via the connecting USB cable and it is not working. Yes, I have tried restarting both devices, and no autosync is not working nor is is it providing the avaialbile option to select music in iTunes on my Mac to then sync. Please help. Thanks

Please disregard. I figured it out. Answer for anyone else running into this problem: You have to turn off iTunes Match on both devices. Apparently, if you activate iTunes Match it deactivates your abiltiy to direct sync.

  • How do I install Internet Explorer on my Macbook Pro?

How do I install Internet Explorer on my Macbook Pro?

Virtual Box free, Windows 7 Home Premium System Builder SP1 $92.
IE9 is and can be secure and work just fine and I do prefer it to others, but Firefox lets me work in Apple Community easier is all.
Safari still bogs down trying to open multiple tabs, isn't multi-thread efficient, isn't memory efficient or well behaved - beyond the advandages of keeping code in memory it is still a memory hog. Open the same 20 tabs in any other browser is the best way I know. I also don't trust Google that much for security, I consider Google tracking and adsense to be a nuisance. Firefox gives some semblance, especially with add-ons, to tracking, cookies, privacy, and blocking content the best.
