How do I use ios remote to control volume on my imac

I used to be able to control the volume when using my imac to play itunes through an airport to remote speakers using the ios remote app. Is there a workaround to get the volume control back so I can sit on my patio w/my iphone and change the volume?

You just need to slide the volume slider in the Apple Remote, but will need to be connected to your wireless network.

  • How to program my ATT remote to control volume on my Samsung Smart TV

I am only able to change channels on my Samsung smart TV via my AT&T remote. I would like it to control the volume as well but have been unsuccessful at being able to get the volume programs on the ATT remote.

This is more complicated now with the S-20 remote. You must have an s-10 because you cannot change TV channels on an s-20. MAybe you meeant you caan change u-verse channels.
If you have an old s-10 with mode buttons the volume on the TV in all modes is the default after programming the TV. So, if yo do not have tv volume control, you have not yet found the correct code. If you want to start from scratch, the factory defaul program is att/ok -900.
If you have a new s-20, without mode buttons, the default is STB volume control. You need to change it. Here are the directions - http://www.att.com/esupport/u-verse/remotes/

People who need to SCAN & PRINT without a compatible driver from their manufacturer can use Apple's very basic "PRINT & SCAN" utility in System Preferences:
Click the Apple menu ( ), and then click System Preferences .
    Click Print & Scan ( ).
Click Scan , and then click Open Scanner .
Click Show Details . The details of the scan display, including options to modify scan settings such as output type.Figure 2: Example of the Show Details scanning screen

  • How do I use the remote app on a dual band network?

There are 2 routers in my home. One is dual band (SSID: NETGEAR49-5G). This one is being used as a 5GHz access point while the other (SSID: NETGEAR49) is being used as a 2.4GHz extender. However I can't use the Remote app to control my iTunes library, regardless of which router I connect to. I can't even use a passcode to add my library because I just keep getting an error saying I entered the wrong code. Strangely everything's fine if I turn off the 2.4GHz router, but I don't want to have to keep doing that. Is there any way I can configure the two routers so I can use the Remote app and other network-based services??

    Hi,
I can tell you how it works on my iPhone.
I click the Messages icon to open it.
I click the box with pencil icon top right for New Message
I start to type the name of the person I want to contact in the "To" spot.
(Alternatively use the Blue + icon and select direct from Contacts list)
I select the full name of Contact from any list if there are multiples.
Once the person and their Contact option is selected I click on the text field at the bottom of screen
Using the "keyboard" I type the Message and then  the Send button.

  • Using apple remote to control iTunes volume

This must have been covered before. I searched through 12 pages and couldn't find the answer. I simply want to be able to control the iTunes volume with my white apple remote. Presently it will only control system volume and I'm going out to a different device where system volume has no effect.
This is for Snow Leopard. Appreciate the help.

I too play iTunes to remote speakers (airplay express, apple TV, IOS devices running Speakers app.)  The volume buttons on my Macbook Air control the laptop speakers but won't control the iTunes application volume when playing Airplay.  Going to iTunes to click on a slider is frustrating when there are volume buttons on the laptop.
Another App solution is Airfoil from http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/mac/
There is a cost and I don't have a free Apple/Mac solution.  But with Airfoil, you can link the volume bottons to Airplay volume.  This is really a preference that iTunes should inherently provide.  But with Airfoil, I can push any audio app (Pandora, Spotify, browser audio, and even iTunes) to any number of speakers both Airplay and computer.  And Airfoil will link the volume buttons to the audio output on any of the speakers selected.  I no longer use the Airplay option from within iTunes but use Airfoil to push iTunes whereever I want and properly control volume.
Hope this helps.  Sorry it is a third party pay app as the solution when Apple could just incorporate this simple request.

  • Macbook air mid2012 can use the Remote Apple Control?

I want to know if a Macbook air mid2012 can work with the Remote Apple control. If so, how should I configure my macbook air to make it work?

No MacBook Airs can work with the Apple remote.  They do not have an IR sensor.
Apple are phasing the remote out.
If you have an iPhone, it can be set up to operate as a remote for your MBA.
There are 3rd party IR remote setups if having a remote is a must (say for training using Keynote).

  • How do I use a remote superdrive? I'd like to backup iTunes and iPhoto

I'd like to be able to use a remote shared drive. I know how to make it shared - but not how to then get another machine to share it!
I'd like to do remote backups to my mac mini superdrive - I have it there and I can see the disc, but, when I try to get iTunes or iPhoto to back up they only see the local drive.
Is there some way that I can do this with toast?
The superdrive on my G5 is faulty, I need to have it repaired. I do have one on my Mac mini that I have shared.
How do I get my iTunes backup to go to a remote, shared Superdrive DVD?

Can you not just manually drag the iTunes music files to the other drive and then burn them to the CD or DVD media? I do realize that by doing it this way you will lose all of your playlists but at least you would have copies of all your music and or video files. You could also copy all of your itunes library and related files to the shared folder or some other folder on the mini and then use iTunes on it to do the backup and then simply remove the copied files from the mini when you were done.
The built in backup that comes with iTunes is only designed to work with the built in drive not a shared drive I believe.

  • How can I use the remote that comes with MacBook?

I have a MacBook remote (old macbook, not the pro). I no longer have the macbook computer, but I hope I can still use the remote. I do not know how. Please help me.

Only if it has IR support. Otherwise, it cannot. You would need to connect an IR receiver to the USB port.

  • ITunes opens up automatically when I use the remote to control VLC!!!

I have often used VLC with 10.5 to watch videos on my iMac and always used the remote to pause, play, and adjust the volume. However, since upgrading to 10.6 today, now every time I use the media keys (either the remote, or even hitting the space bar on the keyboard to pause/play the VLC player), iTunes automatically opens up (it was not running before) and starts playing! VERY annoying when trying to watch a movie. Does anyone know any setting I can do such that iTunes will only be controlled by the remote when it is open?

There are several other discussions covering the same subject. Check out http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2122639&start=30&tstart=0 and you'll find the same solution as I found.

  • How can I use a remote CD/DVD drive to install MacOS 10.4?

    Hello,
My old iBook G3 needs to be updated to MacOS 10.4 however its CD drive doesn't work. I have an retail copy of Tiger and have put it in my iBook G4 but when I open the installer it doesn't allow me to choose my mounted iBook G3 (which I have connected through a wireless network). How can I use my iBook G4's CD/DVD drive to install MacOS 10.4 on my iBook G3?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    iBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.6)

'Making matters worse' seems a bit excessive, since it isn't that uncommon for an optical drive to die in an otherwise perfectly good machine. (Ask parents with inquisitive kids, for example!
Plus, this is an iBook, & I don't believe OWC sells replacement internal drives for them, only for PowerBooks, so it doesn't seem that unreasonable to suggest that he first try something that has a good chance of doing what he wants to do, which is install Tiger on the iBook, rather than suggest anything that may or may not be appropriate for his situation.
Since he already has purchased the DVD, the most he is risking with the TDM approach is the cost of a 6 pin to 6 pin FW cable, which he still should find useful no matter what else he decides to do. If nothing else, it shouldn't cost anymore than the exchange of the DVD for CD's, right?

  • How to set ACLs on Remote MAC server Volumes..

    Hi,
I have Mac OS X server v 10.5 Leopard. Initially I have enabled the ACLs using fsaclctl on the MAC server volume. When this volume gets mounted(through afp) on some other MAC client(MAC OS X 10.4 Tiger), the ACL status is shown as disabled. And it not allowing to set the ACLs on the remote volume from the client side.
I have used the following command to enable ACLs from Client.
    sudo fsaclctl -p /Volumes/<server Volume> -e
    This failed as "not supported".
Anyone knows how to set the ACLs on the remote MAC server volumes? Basically I want to see ACL working on Remote MAC server volumes.

    Hi
    +". . . remote MAC server volumes . . ."+
Are you saying you are trying to enable ACLs on volumes shared by another OSX Server when volumes are mounted on the server in question?
Or are saying you can't see if ACLs on mounted volumes when issuing ls -lae for example?

  • How can I use apple remote with Mountain Lion? Any Front Row alternative?

    Hi All,
I recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
All great except for my Apple Remote control.
Before, I could effectively control my iMac media with Apple Remote by using Front Row (music, photos, videos, good integration with iTunes and iPhoto).
Now, as I understand, Front Row is expired.
So, my Apple remote still works but with very limited options (just music, forward, backward and volume), and it's a real pity.
Any of you Guys know how to restore Front Row?
Otherwise maybe suggest an alternative (sth similar, should allow iMac media control by Apple Remote)?
So far I tried to restore all Front Row files by a Time Capsule Snow Leopard backup (as indicatred on some other Communities).
To restore was easy, but then, no way to launch it.
    Any advice will help!
    Thanks in advance/all the best.
    Marco

Thanks Klaus1 for your prompt answer, although I went again through a dated discussion.
I also got the feeling that somehow they want to push Apple TV..
But, respectfully speaking towards our Friends at Apple, is it fair to promise what you don't deliver?
I have choosen apple because I percive it's different.
    At currently published link: http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC377Z/A/apple-remote
    they do promote the following:
    Apple Remote with Mac
The Apple Remote gives you total command of your music, photos, videos and DVDs from anywhere in the room. It works with Front Row - a menu-based, full-screen interface - to make accessing the digital content on your Mac as simple as navigating your iPod. When you press the Menu button, your desktop fades and the sleek, Front Row interface takes its place, to give you control over your music in iTunes, your photos in iPhoto, the videos in your Videos folder and your DVDs. Turn up the volume. Shuffle. Skip to the next chapter on your DVD. Play a slide show, a home video that you made in iMovie, even a film trailer.
Compatible with Apple products introduced in 2005 or later that have a built-in infrared (IR) receiver. Not compatible with MacBook Pro with Retina display.
Cost for this is 15£ (19€).
Now, I have iMac and Mac Book Pro (no retina display) both with Mountain Lion installed, and I understand both of them are not compatible with Front Row.
Actually I adore apple tv and I got 2 at home nicely working on 2 different TVs.
So I accomplished twice their wish of selling this product to me.
Why shall they deceive me (and many others, as I read) by killing a still promised service?
Should I read all forums before buying a trusted-brand-product like apple, to ensure that id does what declared?
Don't get me wrong, I'm an enthusiast user of the whole apple family, since many years, and still I am.
Just politely complaining for this decision, which creates to Many an easy avoidable disservice.
    Cheers
    Marco

  • How can I use ios internal music player for playing music?

    Hi All,
I know how to play MP3s using Adobe Air, but I have no idea how can I possibly use the INTERNAL MUSIC PLAYER of iOS with Adobe Air? Is tha possible? Is there any native extentions for this purpose or some codes??
Thanks a lot and I appreciate any help in this case please?
    Ali

Thanks a lot for your kind reply. Now at least I know where to go from here!
Actually I have no experience with Native extensions so far, even while I've developed some apps for Android and iOS using Adobe Flash CS6, that they happen all to have sound players as well.
The problem is, in my Apps (sample below) I have programmed the ability to let users Play / Pause / Stop (Navigate) the MP3s that will be downloaded from Internet based on their selection. as this player is NOT using the iOS native player, consequently, the main negative results are as follows:
    - App does not catch downloaded mp3 files for offline use or if WIFI disconnected suddenly (unlike iOS player)
    - in Lock screen, Users do not have access to the playback of sound.
    - wireless FM transmitters or other kits used in cars, can not control the playback unlike iOS internal player.
Based on above discussion and your suggestion to use Native extentions, I just found this one:
    https://github.com/mateuszmackowiak/SoundExtension
Do you think this will satisfy my needs?
    Regards,
       Ali

  • How do I use the remote wipe feature for file vault 2 / lion?

I tried to find a preference panel. I know that for the ios you have to link/setup your device. I tried the find my iphone web site to see if my computer was listed there and it isn't at the moment. Is this new lion feature only available later with icloud? I checked the lion feature page and it lists it with file vault 2 with no asterisk so my guess is it should already now work.
It would be a pity to think you've setup your computer to find out that you hadn't "activated" your computer/laptop
    Thanks,
    Phillyman

    Hi,
I'm out of the country on business but probably the only way to figure this out is to call apple or drop by their retail stores. If no one figures this out (and I'm pretty sure there is nothing to figure out at this time). I'll try to call apple when I'm back in august.
I find it wrong that apple touts this as a feature with no disclaimer. I'm a loyal mac fan for twenty years so I'll continue to buy their prodcuts and I did buy lion the day it came out. BUT a disclaimer (as they have done in the past) would have been nice. I know of at least two mac users who usually don't buy new OS's until they get it with their new laptops that specifically bought lion for this feature since they had read about it in a newspaper article.
I also thought this was one of the more useful features in lion since my family already "lost" an iPad and we liked to delete our data after our alarm and message didn't work for a day.
I'm sure  apple has it's reasons for not offering the feature just yet but in that case a disclaimer is a must. I would probably drop the reference remote wipe until I have the infrastructure in place.
    Cheers,
    Phillyman
