If you have already turned on home sharing on the Apple TV, then the Apple TV should simply show up in the remote app without you having to do anything else.
Unfortunately, if you haven't yet enabled home sharing, you can only do so with the original remote and you'll need to purchase a replacement from the Apple Store.

Hey everyone.. got a question to throw out there and hopefully greater minds than mine will come up with an answer!
I'm part of a model aircraft flying club and our airstrips/fields are quite isolated and remote... we have no mains electric power or telephone land-lines. What i'm after is a solution to getting a series of still images (snap-shots) of the clubs airfield on to the clubs website... remotely. I know there are a few apps out there that will allow a iPhone to be used as a remote camera, and you then log into a website to view the images, but all seem to fall short on some specific critera I require. Like I said, the clubs club-house (shipping container) as no power, so the phone will have to be eventually powered from a larger battery source... like a mobile-home leisure battery, and then conected to the internet using either a data-only sim card in the phone or using a mifi... that bit is sorted! What is the problem I so need help with is; I need to set the iPhone to shoot stills only, say at a rate of 1 image every 15 mins and then upload them to a web server/website, also only to take the pics between set times of the day... afterall it's pointless taking pics in the dark, and also that'll use up data. I've had a look at apps such as 'Manything' and 'Presence' and also done a trawl on the web to see if a solution is available, but i've drawn a blank so far.
Any body able to help?

Turn off home sharing, you don't need that. Open Itunes Preferences from the computer. Go to the devices section. At the bottom you will see the option to add a remote access that and follow the steps.

I am trying to set up my iPhone such that I can plug it into my sound system, and sit on my couch with my laptop and transmit whatever I'm selecting on the iTunes library on my laptop directly to my iPhone.
Most of my web search results yield solutions for using the iPhone as the controller (remote), but I want my laptop to be the control. Basically the iPhone acts like a receiver. I did find one app that provides this, Airfoil, but the full price is $25!!! I was baffled. I know iTunes now offers free WIFI streaming built-in, so I am surprised that only a slight modification of this is so hard to find.
I hope I've explained myself clearly. If anyone has any apps that do this please let me know! Most of the time, Remote or the Built-in sharing properties of the latest iTunes version are sufficient, but sometimes I want to be on my comp and have my iPhone be the receiver that I can plug into my sound system.

Well I am trying to avoid buying something that expensive, refurbished or not. And I don't want the iPhone to be the remote. I guess based on the solution you suggested, I want my iPhone to act like the Airport Express but only for audio transmitting, no video or photos or anything. I thought maybe there was even a Bluetooth method that could solve this, but I am finding that pairing my iPhone 4S with my MBP is not possible. Unless the problem has been solved?
Any other solutions?

I work for a company in Michigan that does a lot of soil-sampling. (We take core samples from precisely mapped areas of fields for scientific anaylsis.)
My goal is to use my Iphone 3 with my existing bluetooth Wintec G-Rays 2 for precise GPS mapping in apps like GISroam. The searchable apps in the App Store appear unreliable for tethering.
Also: My boss has an Iphone 4. (Perhaps that phone be more appropriate for this application?)
Question: Am I thinking about doing this in the right way? Are there apps that will make this simpler?

If your phone is locked to AT&T in the USA, then only AT&T in the USA can unlock it - you will need to contact them about it.

Note that requesting and processing an unlock throught AT&T is the ONLY way to officially and permanently unlock your phone.

You can use your IOS device to do initial setup on an Apple TV, but you won't be able to use it as a remote as that also requires home sharing to be enabled. I would take it to Apple to test the remote and/or get a replacement.

How can I stop my iphone 5 from asking for Apple ID Password constantly?

I've had this problem ongoing for awhile now and it's starting to drive me nuts.
A few months back I was using an app where you could purchase in-game points which would come through your apple ID. I purchased the points and they never arrived, but it's like my phone is constantly now trying to buy the points over and over. Randomly even when the app is closed I'll be asked for my Apple ID password, even if the app is deleted from my phone. If I enter my password it'll go away for a little while and then try again later. So I figure it is just continually trying to make the purchase and fails each time.
I've contacted the support for the app and they never reply to any support email questions, I've looked around online and similar problems seem to be fixed by people looking at pending downloads sitting in itunes on their PC, but there is nothing pending at all. I've changed my Apple ID password. I've made sure it was synced with my phone, I've cleared it from my phone and re set it up again ... nothing seems to work.I even reset my phone entirely and it continues to ask .. it's like the problem is linked more with my apple ID rather than the phone itself. But I'm out of ideas of how to stop it.
Any suggestions? It's incredibly frustrating!

You can download the remote App from the itunes store and this will control you Apple TV remotely. Make sure you have Home Sharing switched on.

Once the personal hotspot is up, you can connect a reasonable number of devices to gain Internet access. The iPad can hook up either via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. If you have a computer, you also have the choice of a wired connection as well.
