How do I use my MacBook Pro to do video chat with my Gmail account

I have a gmail video/audio chat account and would like to use my Macbook Pro as my communication device. I cann't seem to get the video portion going. Anyidea?

You could use Elgato Systems' EyeTV product to view external video sources on your MBP.
There is additional cost involved, but it would achive what you want. You can buy the Hybrid product, and connect your external DVD player via Composite (red, white and yellow connectors) to your MBP via the EyeTV.

The question mark means the computer cannot find a bootable volumes so can;t do anything, That, combined with annoying sounds, strongly suggests a failed hard drive.
You can ask a "genius" at an Apple Rtail Store to test it but I'm pretty sure the drive is kaput. I'm hoping you had your data backed up.

  • How do I use my macbook pro lid closed

How do I use my macbook pro lid closed?

Well what i'm trying to do is keep file sharing on while macBook is closed so i can access files through "newtwok" (Back to my mac) with my imac...
Ideally i would then control my macBook with screen sharing on my imac while the MacBook is stored behind my iMac...
Somehow it worked before but now it stopped...and everytime i close the lid ..mac book pro goes black screen and completly disconnects from the newtwork...
Everything works fine with lid open..
I am trying to do this because i have a new imac with thunderbold and an older macbook pro with mini display port..and as you might already know...you canot connect these thow devices using thunderbolt cable...which really *****....there is also no adaport enabling this...and i really dont need to buy another mac book that just has one more hole in it >.<
Anyway..hope there is a solution somewhere to keep file sharing going while lid down..
    regards remo

Unfortunately, that is not possible. The computer only can "output" your display image, it cannot "input" an image from an external computer and display it on your MacBook's retina display.

how do i use my macbook pro as a fax

I bought a US Robotics USB modem that has a phone jack.  I then went into Settings, and set it up as a fax.  I can RECEIVE, but haven't really tried to send, although I do have access to a scanner.  I do have to physically jack into the wall to receive.  I do not know if I (or anyone else) can do this wirelessly.
The modem is 56K, and relatively cheap...I think I paid $25 or less for it.

  • How do I connect my MacBook Pro to an LCD TV (with HDMI and S-Video ports)?

How do I connect my MacBook Pro to an LCD TV (with HDMI and S-Video ports)?  I assume I would need to use the DVI to Video adapter that came with my computer to connect to my LCD tv.  I'm just not sure which port I should use on the TV.  The HDMI port is being used for digital cable.
Also, does anyone know if this can be done wirelessly?

For a 2010+ MBP you can connect with a Displayport to HDMI, which will include Audio.
With older MBP you will need a displayport to HDMI, if you want audio to the actually TV, then you will need to get a cable with either digital out from MBP to the HDMI, or USB audio mixed into the HDMI

My iCloud is defaulting to an old Hotmail address that I no longer use, my apple ID is currently functioning fine with a gmail account.  I'm not able to change my iCloud email on my phone or on desktop... Any advice?

You would have to change your Apple ID back to your old hotmail address (https://appleid.apple.com ) in order to turn off "Find My iPhone" and change the iCloud ID. After you changed it back and verified your old hotmail address you should be able turn off "Find My iPhone" and to temporarily delete your iCloud account from your devices. After that you can change your Apple ID back to your gmail address again. After it is verfied, you could add back your iCloud account by using your gmail address.

  • How Do I Use my MacBook Pro to Watch a DVD From External DVD Player

    Hello Everyone!
While waiting for Apple TV to become available in my place of work, I want to use my MacBook Pro monitor for watching a DVD movie played on an external DVD player. The DVD player I have is an LPC-D1000, which is a new model. While Mac has its own DVD player, I'm trying to make use of my LG DVD player. If that's possible, please guide me on how to do it.
    Thank you.

  • How do I use the MacBook Pro's audio line in?

    Hi,
I've been trying to connect my Playstation 3's analog audio output to my MacBook Pro but it doesn't seem to work. Everytime after I connect it, there still won't be any sound coming out of the speakers.
How is the analog line in supposed to work?
    Thanks!

    Hi Ymer,
Have you selected "audio line in" as your sound source in System preferences / Sound?
The other thing you will need to do is get hold of a copy of an excellent little utility produced by the people who make "Audio Hijack", called "Line-In" - available from http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Audio/LineIn.shtml or direct from the maker at http://www.rogueamoeba.com/freebies/
There is no need to use a sound recording app, if you use "Line In", though that is another option.
    Cheers

  • How do I use my MacBook Pro on my HDTV?

I have a MacBook Pro and all of the necessary cables in order to display my computer on my tv screen. I have my tv to the right setting and connected to my computer to the DVI port. I have a LG HDTV when I plug my cords in my computer screen turns blue like it recognizes that it is connected to the TV but nothing happens on my TV and it still says that there is no signal. It has to be some sort of setting on my TV. Any help is greatly appreciated thanks. Also I was wondering if there is a way to run the sound through the TV using the cords I have. Thanks

I agree with what you are saying, that his MBP doesnt have a thunderbolt port, and shouldnt work, but it will do so. It is the same port in essence being the same shape. It acts in exactly the same way as a DVI, if you want sound and picture, simply get the cord that i have recommended. My personal MPB also has a DVI port, and not a thunderbolt port, as i dont have the new version.  But for some reason it seems to double up as the same port, even though at first glance it seems to be a completely different port.
A member of my family bought a brand new MBP only a few weeks ago, and decided to get  a thunderbolt to HDMI lead, no adaptors needed, and this gives both sound and picture not only to the late 2011 version, but to older versions also.
Note that i have an old version MBP,  WITH DVI, and a thunderbolt cable gives me picture AND sound.

  • How can I use the MacBook Pro webcam with Windows XP apps under Parallel?

Thank you in advance for your help with this matter.
I have a MacBook Pro and I have just installed Parallel with Windows XP. I would like to use the webcam that comes with the laptop for applications that run under Windows XP (ex.: PalTalk).
The application doesn't seen to recognize the camera. Do I have to load the drivers for this camera in XP? If so where can I find them and what is the process?
    Thank you again,
    Enrico

You probably need to load the Boot Camp drivers that are on the Leopard DVD. Whether it works or not I can't say, but you may want to post your question on the Parallels forums, since it's not an Apple product, and if anyone has gotten it to work you'll find them over there.

  • How do i get my Macbook Pro to communicate/link-up with the Apple TV when it's on ?

    Hi all,
I have recently purchased a Macbook pro and Apple TV. The apple tv works fine from an i-pad, but i am not sure where on a Pro to go to get it to 'read' the apple tv ?
Would be grateful for any help please......

    AppleTV works in several ways.
For material purchased in iTunes you can play it from the internet if your connection is good enough under Movie/TV Show Purchased sections on the unit itself without a computer on.
For material downloaded or added to iTunes library, the best way to play is to Home Share and for apple TV to pull the compatible stream across to play using iTunes as a helper app.
Apple TV cannot play media that is not part of an itunes library (though the media for the itunes library can be stored in several locations) directly, nor can it access network storage to do so.
If you are playing media files which are not part of an iTunes library on a MacBook Pro and want to mirror the screen to the TV you need to use Airplay mirroring on the Mac (if it's new it should be capable, older ones aren't). Some applications will be prevented from mirroring presumably for copyright reasons (eg DVD player app), but VLC may work.  You have probably used Airplay or `Airplay mirroring from iPad - I'm not keen on Airplay personally, but I've had AppleTVs since the days when this was never an option and it could only stream or sync from itunes (syncing no longer possible in newer units).

  • How do I connect my macbook pro to show video onto the television

I am trying to connect my macbook pro to the tv so I can show the video on the computer on the tv. I have a 2014 macbook pro and was trying to do it through the hdmi port but must be doing something wrong.

It would be helpful if you indicated the EXACT model/year MBP that you have and the current OSX.
Have you opened System Preferences>Displays and does it show 'ARRANGEMENT' as an option?
Have you read the TV instruction manual?
    Ciao.
