How do I use two devices on one computer?

My son has a Nano, I have an iPod. Both Xmas gifts. We have different music likes (duh) so we don't want one big library feeding both devices. How do we get his music on his Nano and my music on my iPod?

  • How can I use two Ipods on one computer.

I was wondering if it is possible to use 2 Ipods on one computer without having to reload all of the music to the new library.

If you are adding a second iPod for your own use, just connect the new iPod to your computer and follow the on screen instructions. It will update from your existing library. Depending on the size of your library and the type of iPod you choose you can have it update all songs and playlists, selected playlists only or you can manage it manually
If the iPods belong to different users then there are actually a few methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer
Just to summarise what's in the link above which is a little out of date:
Method one is to have individual Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you completely separate iTunes Music folders and libraries.
Method two is to set your preferences so that any or all of iPods get updated with only certain playlists within one library:
Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for each iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used by the other iPod. You can read more about playlists at these links:

Another option when using a single library is to set any or all of the iPods to manual update: Managing content manually on iPod

How do I run two libraries from one computer? One library is on the computer's hard drive, the second library is on an external hard drive. The computer that had the external hard drive crashed and I need to fix the iTunes library on it. How can I do this without corrupting the library on my internal hard drive?

Launch iTunes with the Shift key held down and either create a new library or choose the one on the external drive. Any rented movies downloaded from another computer won't play.

  • How do you use 3 devices on one Router?

Hello< I'm new to the forum and new to networking.  My question may seem very basic and it may not, I'm not sure.  I will say that I have tried to learn things about routers and networking over the past few days with not much success.  Of the 3 million plus acronyms used for networking and networking devices, I know maybe two of them, so trying to read about this stuff is like trying to read pig latin.
My set-up is one Lynksys cable modem and a WRT54G wireless router using Comcast cable internet.  I have one PC wired to the router, one Xbox360 wired to the router, and one PSP (Playstation Portable) wirelessly connected to the router using a WPA personal.  I currently have my router set to "Automatic Configuration - DHCP."
The PC is always connected to the internet and always works, although, once and a while I do get the little yellow shield in my toolbar that says there is an IP conflict.  After setting up or resetting the router I can then log on with both my PC and the Xbox at the same time with no trouble.  While both the Xbox and PC are looged in,the PSP will not log in,says "could not connect."  As soon as I log off the Xbox, the PSP will then be able to connect without doing anything else.  If I then log off the PSP I have to reset the router before the Xbox can log in again.  If I do not reset the router at this point, and run the Xbox network test utility it will say the IP address has failed.
Is there a way that I can log in with all 3 devices at once?  If not, is there a way that I can at least not have to reset the router everytime I switch from the PSP to the Xbox?
Thanks to anyone who replies to this post.  I am getting a little frustrated and I can't seem to gain any understanding of these devices or how they work.

Thanks a lot for that information Sean.  Those guides made it extremely easy to set up all my devices to a static IP.  I now have all 3 devices logged at the same time and no longer need to reset my router.  Nice!
There is one problem though.  Now, when I use the test utility on the Xbox, everything is confirmed, but when it gets to NAT it says "moderate."   It used to say "open."
    IP Adress - Confirmed
    DNS         - Confirmed
    MTU         - Confirmed
    ICMP        - Confirmed
    Xbox Live  - Connected
NAT          - Moderate  (should say "open")
    This is what it says when I select "more info" under NAT;
"This test indicates the type of NAT that your router or gateway is using.  Devices that perform strict or moderate NAT can restrict or limit the ability of gamers to find each other, participate in sessions, or hear each other on Xbox Live.  If your router or gateway is using a strict or moderate NAT, replace it with a Xbox Live compatible device.  For a listing of compatible devises visit www.xbox.com."
I have since tried joining a live game session and everything seemed to work fine, although I havn't yet had a chance to confirm if the Live voice chat is working yet.
I have checked the Xbox website and found that my modem is certified Xbox Live compatible.  It lists WRT54G (V1, V2, and V3) supporting firmware version 3.01.3 and 3.03.6.  It also states that firmaware v2.02.7 will not allow you to log onto Xbox Live, so I know I don't want that version.  In my router's set-up menu it says Firmware v1.00.9.  Should I update my firmware?  Am I missing something else?
Again, thanks for your help and hopefully I can figure out this "moderate" thing.

iTunes can manage any number of iDevices separately. Be sure each has a different name. You can only connect one at a time. Please get the IPod Touch user guide.

  • Help wanted - step by step process on how to use two ipods on one computer

I'm just in the process of getting an ipod (waiting on delivery!) and want to know how it is possible to have two ipods using the same computer but synchronizing differently. I don't want to risk losing my partners music (he'll be very upset!) and I don't want to end up with his music on my ipod. I'd appreciate it if someone could give me a step by step guide or tell me where the best place to look for the answer is. Is it possible somehow to have two different libraries on one computer? Is that how it works?

There are a couple of methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer. Have a look at the article linked below. • How do I use mulitple divices with one computer

How do I run muitple divices on one instance of ITunes

When we purchased a new car last year it came with an iPod tether. I decided to give it a try and purchased an iPod for it.   I was so impressed that I decided to do away with my collection of 300+ CD's, 400+ vinyl records, and 100+ cassette tapes.  It took me ssix months to transfer everything to iTunes (the vinyl was especially slow, and I had to purchase an interface preamp to facilitate the process).  I next began collecting iPods - one for each of our three cars (two of which had to have tethers installed), and one for each room where we wanted to listen to music (for this we purchased several iLIVE iPod docks).  I then began transfering my music collection from my computer to the iPods.  At this point I ran into problems with syncing, resetting, and generally uncooperative iPods.  When I noticed that iTunes insisted on calling all my iPods by the same name, when I had named them separately, I began to worry, and tried to contact Apple to ask what might be happening.  Unfortunately, my last purchase was six months and a week ago, and Apple no longer wants to talk to me.
Today I began checking this forum and found the article about multiple iPods on one computer.  So ... I have to make six copies of my library, remember which library goes with which iPod, and remember to switch to the appropriate library before syncing.  Whatever happened to that "Apple makes it easy" attitude?

  • How do I manage two iPods on one computer please?

I have an iPod (early 40G model, and it's fine). I installed iTunes, and all fine. A year goes by. Another member of the household gets an iPod (mini), and we load the software into a different subdirectory in Program Files. This erases my iTunes, but all still works fine for some reason. i.e. when I attach my iPod, it is recognised, and my iTunes music is shown on the screen. When the other iPod is attached, same thing (i.e. it is recognised and her iTunes are shown on the screen). Our different music folders are stored in different subdirectories.
This is all fine, until her iPod erases itself, and is now no longer recognised by iTunes. In the processes advised for solving this situation (restore and reset etc) we erase my iPod (but have managed to restore music to if after re-installing the original software that came with it.)
So now we are back to the stage of having her iPod not being recognised by iTunes. Please suggest solutions! Please also advise if there is a more sensible way of managing two iPods on one PC. Is it really as basic as having different playlists?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Yep. Playlists will do it.

  • How do we register two iPads via one computer any ideas

We have bought a second iPad but only have one computer in the house can we run both iPads

To make your life easier, I strongly suggest using the same iTunes login information on both iPads (under Settings > Store). Unless you need each iPad to be able to purchase from different credit cards, this is the way to go, and both iPads will have access to all of the same music, apps, and books purchased on the other.

  • Can i use two devices with one itunes account?

I share a laptop with my husband.  We have had "sync" issues in the past with his contacts and my contacts intermingling on our separate iPhones.  Can I create two different iTunes accounts for us to sync independently?  What should I do about this?  With the advent of iCloud, we're both going to be autosyncing...right???

This won't be a problem, iTunes will see the new device as a separate device, it will have its own settings under iTunes, you can set it up to sync the same content or different content to the first device, it will have no effect on how the first device syncs with iTunes.
