How do I verify a DVD after burn?

How do I verify a DVD after burn? I know it can be done right after the burn, but this has been burned long ago. How is it done? I need to know it will play in a DVD player all the way through. I have several DVds and dont want to watch them all...
Thanks

Just FYI, when I first started burning DVD disks, I always did the burn verification process after the burn. It took a long time, and I wasn't sure what it was really doing. I posted a question to one of the early iDVD users here, like Leonart , Len Goff, who said he never verified and all his DVDs burned fine. So, I stopped doing it and have not had any burn failures.
For your old DVDs, follow Leonart's excellent recommendation.

  • How do I finalize a DVD after burning photos from Aperture??

I have made a slideshow on Aperture and exported it to my desktop. I have burned a DVD-R but there is one problem...I need to finalize it. How do I do this to be able to play on my DVD player?

Well the .mov file was on the desktop, and I went to finder/new finder window/ and made a new folder. Put the DVD-R in the recorder and clicked "burn". The .mov file burned successfully to the disc but cannot be played back on an external device.
What is the external device you are trying to play the DVD in? Just burning a .mov file to a DVD doesn't create DVD that is playable in most DVD players.
If you are trying to create a DVD that can play in a DVD player take a look at iDVD.

  • How to clean the CD/DVD-Player/burner (MATSHITA DVD-R   UJ-875) on my iMac

I have a iMac early 2008, and I wonder how I can clean my CD/DVD - Player/Burner (MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-875). The Matshita spits out some cd's and some dvd's (not all) even if they are clean and with none damage. Have heard rumours who says that on the CD/DVD player/burner on Macbook Pro you can clean the player/burner with a shammy (wraped around a creditcard)inside the slot. Any suggestions?
The Matshita has been very choosy from the day i bought the iMac, but not as choosy as today. I consider to buy a new externally CD/DVD - player/burner. I have not time to send it in to service (4-6 weeks). But maybe someone out there has a good solution to fix this problem

Hi, yes I kno' the disk drives can be choosy on which make they read & write on.
You could try one ov those disk cleaning
CD's - usually sold @ stores like, Walmart, BestBuy or Target..
An external unit would work well, I'm not sure I agree with your thoughts on the service turn round time.

  • No Sound on parts of DVD after Burn

I have created a movie in iMovie, brought into iDVD and when I play the DVD IN iDVD, it works great. But after I burn it to the DVD the menus have sound, but the Movie does not. I'm stumped, any ideas?

f you recorded your video in 16-bit and not 12-bit and you're sure that's not the problem here, then check that this is set correctly:
    In utilities
    Audio MIDI Setup.app
    then set
    Audio input/Format to 44100.0 Hz
Some programs reset the Audio, & it must be 44100 for iDVD
Or you could try to File Save As Disk Image. Then use Toast to burn.

  • Slight pixellation on faces at end of DVD after burning in DVD Studio Pro. Can you help?

I am appealing to those much more expert than myself. I have burned a DVD of my short film in DVD Studio Pro.
Original file: Apple Pro Res 422 HQ (PAL 25fps)
I put this into Compressor: Best quality DVD 90 mins.
Then I imported this in DVD Studio Pro and burned a DVD
The DVD looks great until the end where the faces start to go pixellated in an outdoor scene every second or so for a second.
The thing is that this only suddenly started to happen. I had originally done the compression and burned dvds and it all looked fine, but then suddenly when I burned some extra DVDs I noticed this had happened. I recompressed the files, and it had the same problem in exactly the same place. (The original file doesn't have this problem.)
The thing is that in between I had made a new separate DVD Studio Pro project in NTSC and imported my compressed 29.97fps Apple pro res file of the film. I'm not sure how this would have affected the original PAL project or if this has anything to do with it!
When I originally burned the PAL DVDs I also did a second version where I exported from FCP a PAL QT of the film 720x576 and then imported this into DVD Studio Pro and let DVD Studio Pro do the rest of the compression. I am trying this again to see if this makes any difference.
    Any advice?

Hi Christina, thanks for this. I am a bit confused exactly how many and where to put.
You see the shot in question is a static two shot. It is used several times in the scene, but the only place I have a problem is the final time we see the shot. It is at the end of the shot and over the final 13 seconds, the faces pixellate slightly every now and then for like a frame. How many compression markers should I put in do you think?
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Bad DVD after burning

I have created a photo presentation (for watching at TV) based on iDVD and burned with internal iMac tool. But the result is a DVD with very bad photo quality. I tried it with diffrent types of DVDs (DVD-R, DVD-RW). What was wrong?

I have the same problem exactly: iMovie project looks great on my iMac, but after Media Browser (HD 1080p) is done and I burn it on iDVD the result is of very poor quality. Can someone at Apple give us some answers??? Thanks.

  • No audio in dvd after burning.

So I've burned hundreds of projects before and have never had this happen. After encoding the video the project goes straight to writing to disc. Skips audio encoding altogether and therefore I have no audio on the disc whatsoever. It's not a menu audio problem or anything, just the actual audio that matches the video.
If anybody has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. I have tried twice for this project same thing happens.

    Hi t
    a. most common origin is - music/audio from iTunes.
Way around - copy out audio as .aiff to eg. an audio CD. Use this in Your project.
    b. Try to do a DiskImage. Play it with Apple-DVD player. OK ?
If OK then burn with Apple Disk Util tool or if You got Toast™.

  • No audio on dvd after burning

iMac 10.6.1./iDvd 7.1.2. I can see that there are 2 files in my movies folder, 1 for audio and the other for video. The video is there in its folder but there is no audio in the folder, it's empyt. 1 1/2 hours of writing from iMovie to iDvd then another 3 hours writing to a dvd disc to have no audio with the video *****, hellllppp please

Once you have the project as you want it in iDVD save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good and you can then burn to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Cannot burn NTSC DVD after burning PAL DVD

Using Adobe Premiere Elements vers.10, I created a video which I need to burn onto DVDs, in PAL format for European users and NTSC for North American recipients.  I successfully burned (to folder) in NTSC, and then in PAL.  Produced two sample DVDs from those two folders and reviewed them.  This highlighted the need for a few corrections to the project.  I carried these out, burned the revised film to folder in PAL format, and then wanted to do the same in NTSC format.  The computer appears to work on the task, but produces no folder and no files.  I am no longer able to procude a DVD in NTSC format, either by burning to a folder or burning directly on a DVD.  What is the cause of this problem ?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide with this issue.
    Paul

    Paul,
I do not recall any issues, where the program gets hung up, though as a precaution, maybe clear the Media Cache in the Scratch Disks. I know that Encore (sort of the authoring "big-brother" to the authoring function in PrE) can get confused, when it has some older Media Cache files. It assumes that things have already been done, when it needs to "start over."
Also, I would create a new, empty folder, with a unique name, and direct the Burn to Disc to THAT folder. Since all that one gets is the VIDEO_TS, AUDIO_TS (empty), and then another folder, whose name I cannot recall (Encore does not write anything but the VIDEO_TS folder and IFO, BUP and VOB files), it's easy to confuse the output. Just thinking here.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Turn off verifying after burn?

    Hi everyone,
I can't find a way to turn off the verifying process after I burn a DVD. One must manually click the little x to get a pop up. Burning a dvd with verify takes almost an hour and this is too long. Burn only is about 15 minutes.
Is there a box I can uncheck for this somewhere?

Download and install OnyX, a free acpplication:
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs2/english/download.html
With this app you can enable and disable the verifying of disks after burning!
Hopefully this is helpfull or solved your problem. Consider rewarding some points!

  • After burning to dvd, using idvd, movie stops on frame but audio continues

After creating imovie which works perfectly, and also after trasferring to idvd works perfectly, i have problems when playing back dvd after burning to disc. The movie stops but the audio continues. I altered the clip but same thing happened in next clip after next burn. I don't think its a corrupt clip, but maybe something to do with WHEN it occurs in the movie. Any suggestions? After 4 goes and many hours burning I am stumped!

    Hi Tomma1
And welcome to apple discussions. It's good you chose to use 16 bit audio for all of your source material. And assuming this is accurate info .... From what I can tell, you are doing nearly everything correctly. However let me ask you a few questions.
    1. Are you using the boot volume (the hard drive where iDvd and Leopard are actually located) to encode your dvd (yes/no)?
    2. More importantly, does the disc image also go out of sync when played thru apple's dvd player app? or does it only happen on the burned dvd-r?
    3. Are you using Verbatim Dvd-R or an alternate brand? if it's the latter, then for troubleshooting purposes while on this forum; please use Verbatim Dvd-R. (it helps us eliminate additional / possible variables). Thereafter feel free to use the media that works best for you and your mac.
    4. Have you tried an alternate encoding setting other than pro quality setting? and do you get the same results?

After burning a successful DVD in iDVD out of FCPX, how can I see the settings it used?
So I finally burned a DVD out of a Apple Pro Res file into iDVD in PAL format. My question now is how can I find out what the exact burn properties were so that I can apply the same burn properties to a project in Compressor 4?
Is it possible to see what iDVD did?

I don't know any way you can interrogate iDVD to reveal settings to the extent that you can in a Compressor project. What you could do is open up the show's VOB in MPEG STreamclip, go to File and Reveal Stream Information; that will at least give you some rudimentary info like average bit rate. Perhaps someone, with more iDVD experience, can chime in here.
The broader question is why use Compressor at all if your current workflow is doing the job to your satisfaction?
The value of Compressor is that it gives you control over the many parameters that affect size quality.  and playability. The Compressor presets can give you a starting point for DVD delivery, Web, etc. From those presets, people typically experiment by adjusting the parameters until they get the desired results for their specific show. It's a little bit science and a little bit art. After experimenting, you may be able to get slightly better quality for the project you've successfully burned in iDVD by using Compressor and something likeToast…or maybe not.
    Good luck.
    Russ

It sure is. It also plays on my PC using VLC Player. So, I know that it was burned onto the DVD.
