How do i view appleworks docs in tiger?

have owned a new i-mac and tiger for a couple of days ... my i-book with panther had no trouble creating and reading docs (with a .cwk ending on the file name). in the new tiger first of all i cannot find appleworks, secondly when i tried to open a doc i was sent to a trial version of i-works which then opened up in microsoft word and finally told me that there had been an error and my doc could not be opened.
help!!!!!

If you have a legal copy of Appleworks you can install it on your computer. I don't know how you obtained the Appleworks you have. If it came as part of the pre-installed software when you purchased your computer, then it would be on the Software Restore discs that came with the computer. There are file translators. MacLink Plus, for example, will translate Appleworks files to most other word processors, spreadsheets, or database apps. I don't know if there are any share or freeware translators. If there are you would likely find them at www.versiontracker.com or www.macupdate.com.
As for linking two computers that's relatively easy. It can be done via Ethernet or via Firewire.
According to Apple's software licensing agreement you may only install the software on one CPU at a time. If you install the software on more than one CPU at a time then you are violating the license agreement (unless you have a multi-CPU license.) Because the discussions are sponsored and supported by Apple, I cannot advise you or instruct you on how to copy software onto more than one CPU. Doing so consitutes a violation of the software license and the terms of use for the discussions.

  • How do I view word docs on lion?

How do I view word docs on lion? I just downloaded Lion in order to get icloud to work and am hating it so far. It's super slow, my address book keeps freezing and now I can't access my word files. Any advise out there?

    TextEdit will open Word documents.
For the problems you are otherwise describing I recommend:
    Reinstalling Lion Without the Installer
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • How to prevent viewing a .doc file without logging?

    Hi,
I have a file called phoneNumbers.doc(MS-Word doc) file. When a user presses the link for this file, I want to show him only if the user is logged in, if not re-direct to login.jsp page. How do I make sure if the user is logged in. I am using Tomcat 4.X as my jsp and servlet engine. I want to prevent users to see this if they directly enter the url without logging in.
Does any body have any idea, how I can use security realms in tomcat to achieve this or any other way? Please Help!
    Thanks in advance.

Do you have any kind of DB in the background of this?
Is it just an JSP page with an HTML link?
This might sound like a lot of work to do, but here's what I suggest:
    1) Create a JSP login page that will forward to the servlet mentioned above
    2) Have your servlet check in a DB if the person's information is correct. If so, JSP:FWD to the JSP with the link, else back to login page
    3) Before going to the JSP with the link, your servlet should get a session and set a session variable called "IsLogged" to "1", for example.
    4) On the JSP with the link, change the link to be a function call in your JSP. This function will check "IsLogged". If the value is "1", show DOC, else JSP:FWD to login page. You can also have a Javascript popup tell the user that he/she is not logged in.
    5) Finally, on the JSP with the link, you should have a log out button that will essentially set "IsLogged" to "0" and JSP:FWD to the login page. Make sure that the login page has some kind of message that says that you have logged the person out, or else it can be confusing to find onesself on a logIN page when we just logged OUT.
This is just an idea, but I have done this many times before and it works beautifully.
    Hope this helps,
    Haig

  • Converting Appleworks docs for use in Maverick

How should I save Appleworks docs?  Is there some way to convert them so they will be available in Mavericks?

  • Appleworks docs conversion to indesign ? possible ?

Question is how best to convert appleworks docs to indesign. I am going from a macpro with older software to an intel base macbook pro and will be using new software of course.  Is the best or only way to convert appleworks to microsoft word and then to indesign. Is microsoft word neccessary or is there another option? Much thanks,
                      Will

Word Processing documents can only be Saved As a limited range of formats, including Rich Text and a few versions of Word, the latest being 2007. If your document is formatted text without the layout being important then Rich Text could probably be imported into InDesign (with which I'm not familiar): otherwise you will have to do it via Word (and if your formatting is complicated it may not survive entirely accurately).
Other types of documents are more problematic: you may find this article helpful -

  • Pages -- how do I access, convert AppleWorks docs?

Hello.  I have numerous AppleWorks docs which, I conveniently found out after upgrading to Yosemite, will not open.  I downloaded Pages -- which also refuses to recognize docs created by Apple's prior word processing software.  So how can I access these docs, convert them to Pages-recognizable docs?  Thank you.

The only way to deal with this is either use the iWork '09 n.3 applications on Yosemite, or install LibreOffice, which will open these files. From the LibreOffice installer, drag and drop it into /Applications. RIght click on the LibreOffice icon, and open. In the open dialog, choose open again. Drag the LibreOffice icon to your Dock and drop. Drag/drop your AppleWorks documents on the LibreOffice Dock icon.
LibreOffice is an MS Office replacement suite.

  • How do I view/convert an MHT doc

Switched from Windows to Mac recently. I have many files that I saved in the MHT format.
How do I view them or convert them to use on my Mac OSX?

Hi Barney, I was fooling around with IE web archives last month and discovered that if you change the extension from mht to html both Safari and Firefox will open them and you can extract the text, but unfortunately the graphics just display as ASCII gibberish. Didn't think to try Opera, so I just now did, and it does indeed open an mht web archive that I had saved in WindowsXP, using IE 7. I figured something had to, since the things are in multi-part mime format. I had thought perhaps a mail program would, but had no luck with that.
If one doesn't have Opera installed with an Adobe product (and I have no less that 4 copies of it), you can download it here:
    http://www.opera.com/browser/
There's a Mac expert, might be Michael Conniff, who prefers Opera to all the other browsers.

  • I've burned my DVD as an img, how do I view it?  I forgot .

I've made a disc image, how do I view my disk image.

This is for burning and viewing:
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (not the .img, the one below) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. Your SuperDrive tray will open. Insert a recordable DVD. (DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and Tiger.
Double-click the .img file. You can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk (on your Desktop) to check your iDVD 5 project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • Appleworks docs and compatibility with iWorks application?

Appleworks docs and compatibility with iWorks application? Does it exists? I do not have iWorks and will soon be upgrading my op sys to 10.4 (it really is in the mail) I currentl have 10.2.8
I use AppleWorks a great deal. Does iWorks replace it? or enhance it?
Will AppleWorks be upgraded or is 6.2.9 the last iteration?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions SYGWS
iWork (no "s") is not an application, but the name given to the package of two applications, Keynote & Pages.
Keynote is a presentation application that can open AppleWorks 6 presentation files & PowerPoint files. I haven't use Keynote other than to view a few presentation. You probably can find a lot of information by searching the Keynote forum.
Pages is the word processing/page layout application in iWork. Pages is able to open AppleWorks 6 word processing document as well as Word, text & RTF documents. It is not able to open any other AppleWorks documents or older Word documents (I'm not sure how far back it goes). Pages 1 (iWork '05) will not display floating spreadsheet frames in AppleWorks 6 word processing documents, Pages 2 can. Pages 2 has limited spreadsheet functions available in tables (as does Keynote 3, both in iWork '06). Pages can export as PDF, Word, plain text, RTF & HTML (HTML export is disappointing to say the least). It cannot export as AppleWorks (any version).
No one here knows for sure if AppleWorks will ever get another update & those that do have signed non-disclosure agreements, but it is extremely unlikely. In the iWork ’05 press release iWork is said to be "building the successor to AppleWorks."
Many users here, like me, use Pages for what it does so well & AppleWorks for what it does that iWork doesn't (at least not yet) - databases, spreadsheets & drawing.

Your steps so far are OK but you may want to try:
1 Trash your user library Caches folder (House Icon with short name in Finder window (hard drive window)GOTO:House icon > Library folder > caches folder
2 Trash the com.apple.Safari.plist file in User library > preferences folder > Safari.plist as well as removing the library Safari folder its self.
3 you can selectivly re-install Safari 2.0 from your OS Tiger Install disk 1, (see Knowledge base article 301229 for how to just select the Safari Application) without doing a complete system Archive and Install.
    4. Create a new Test user account on the system and test how Safari responds in the Test user, see if its a user related issue and not system issue.
    5. Still no Safari response? have to do an Archive and install (not preserving user and network settings)article 107120
PS. Issue may be related to actual internet connection connectivity, power cycle cable modem and router or airport if using one as well as the computer(keep unplugged for 3-5 min) and plug the cable modem in and then the router/airport then power on the computer. Do the Airport Admin utiliy (applications, utilities on HD_1)update.
    - do a hard reset of airport knowledge base article 108044(Express base) and 107451 (Extreme base)
    - Check with internet provider for connection issues "cannot find server" ect.

Initially I had downloaded Document 2 (Free) application to view my doc, ppt and xls files. I was not able to edit the files so there was an option for upgrade the Document-2 free to paid version. I have upgraded the Document 2 application. But on my iPad now there are to application present Docemnt-2 (Free) and Document-2. I am not able to open any existing document using the upgraded version of application. How do I connect all the existing txt,PPT,XLS doccument to the new upgraded Document-2 application and then to edit it on my iPad.

As suggested I had deleted the free application and did a hard restart the iPad. I have again copied the document using iTunes. But I am not able to edit any document using this app. Document 2 (paid version) supports editing features of the txt/ xls /ppt files. Is there any problem while loading the Document 2 app. If I reload then do I need to purchase again?

  • Cannot open Videos, PDF-Viewer and Doc.viewer

When It try to open Videos, PDF-Viewer or Doc.viewer it loads the program but never ends. Always there is only the moving waiting symbol but the loading process never ends. Also, I cannot watch Quicktime movies anymore in the Pixi-Browser which worked before, too.
I am not really sure, because I have my Pixi just for some days: I guess it worked before and after the last update to webos 1.4.5 it doesn't work anymore. Can there be a relation to the update?
Has anybody else that problem? Who can help? Thanx for suggestions!!
Post relates to: Pixi Plus p121ueu (02)

    Thanks Alan,
for some reasons it works now. I even couldn't install any programs anymore. How it worked again: Before I wanted to restart the phone, I pluged it into my PC (USB-Drive) and backed up my Motion Classic Backups just to make sure I don't lose them. Then, I saw that I had 2 Excel-Sheets and 1 Word-Dokument in the main folder of my pixi. I moved them into a new folder.
After disconnecting the pixi from my PC it restarted itself and for some reason, now, it installed all programs I tried to install before (and didn't worked). Now, it all works. I can start PDF-Viewer, Doc.viewer and Videos and see all documents. Puhh, I am glad.
I don't know, why the malfunction happened. My Pixi crashes from time to time because of my Motion Classic. I am very unhappy about the instability of Classic. But that is maybe how some things changed in webOS.
Anyway, thank you for the webOs Doctor-Link!
