How do I view Canon 5DIII RAW in CS3?

Apparently I'll need to update somehow in order to work with these files.  I'm coming from a 5D1 and now have a 5DIII but can't "see" the RAW files in Photoshop or Bridge CS3.

Or download the free DNG converter from Adobe
http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/extend.displayTab2.html
Then convert all your 5D Mk III Raw files to DNGs. Then edit the DNGs in CS3.

  • How can I view my 6D raw files before I open them in post processing?

How can I view my 6D raw files after I load them on my computer & before I open them on a post processing Program?
I have no problem doing that with my 1DX,1DIV or 5Dmk III. This problem exist with any sdhc card I use on the 6D, but not on any other camera with the same cards.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Your computer doesn't have camera RAW support installed for a 6D.  RAW isn't really a standard-format... it's more of a concept.  Every individual camera has it's own unique RAW format (even though they all have the same .CR2 extension).
Each time a new camera comes out, companies that make RAW processing software will make an update available that adds that camera.  You'll need to get that update and install it.

How can i decode Canon T4i raw with Elements 10?

It's not possible. T4i requires ACR 7.1 and that only comes with PSE 11, PS CS6 and LR4. You need to upgrade.

  • Lightroom 5.5 Canon 5DIII raw files misinterpreted

When I import Canon 5DIII raw files into Lightroom 5.5 some of the file end up with rectangular areas of garbage, often diagonal lines.
The problem is generally remedied by importing the file again.
I use Downloader Pro to get cards from the CF card and then import into Lightroom.
I have tried different memory cards but doubt this is the problem because reimporting same file generally solves the problem.

My guess is that the files are corrupted—part of the raw data is missing.  The slight curvature of the border is due to a lens profile being applied.
If the situation can be fixed by redownloading the file, then something must be happening in the transfer.
If this cannot always fix the situation then perhaps the card is bad and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.  If downloading the file multiple times always results in exactly the same corruption then I’d guess the image is on the card that way.  You can try using another way to download like Explorer or Finder, and see if the same situation happens.
If you want to upload one of the files that LR says is corrupted, others can test it to see if it is also bad on their systems.  Sometimes a computer’s memory is bad on the image will only look bad in LR, but usually this manifests as things streaks and spots, not a block in the corner.

  • How do I process Canon G15 Raw files in Photoshop CS5?

Hi - I have Photoshop CS5 and I'm having trouble processing Canon G15 Raw files. I downloaded the most recent Camera Raw converter but it didn't seem to wrong. I suspect I'm doing something wrong in the installation process. Thanks!!

The G15 needs Adobe Camera Raw version 7.3 or higher. Unfortunately CS5 can’t be updated beyond ACR 6.7. But it is possible to download and install the free DNG converter to convert your CR2 files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the DNG files will open in CS5 (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)

Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.7.1
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Canon 5DII RAW+jpeg does not download

When I select RAW+jpeg quality only 2 jpegs download. I am using PhotoShop Elements 7 and there has never been a problem until Canon Irvine updated the firmware. I don't in anyway blame the firmware update but what do I do now to get 1 RAW file and 1 jpeg file?
I have also updated the Adobe RAW plugin software.
    Bob  AZ

Check what version of ACR you are using. It may no longer be compatible with the latest firmware in the camera.
Element 7 dates from Fall 2008, is based upon Photoshop CS4, and Adobe only updates their older versions to a point. Then you have to upgrade to a newer version.
Elements 7 can use up to ACR 5.6. The current Elements 11 uses ACR 7.2.
According to Adobe, 5DII requires ACR 5.2 or later. However, it's possible the firmware update to the 5DII (2.1.2, released Feb. 2012) made changes that now require something later than ACR 5.6, which would necessitate upgrading your version of Elements.
This happened to me back when I went from 30D to 50D... First I found I needed to update Photoshop. Then I found that I needed to update my computer's operating system in order to use the newer version of Photoshop. In the end, I bought a whole new computer because the newer OS and Photoshop would have seriously bogged down on the old computer! That was one expensive camera upgrade!
    You have alternatives.
For one thing, you don't have to download via Elements. You should be able to see the image files on the memory card in Windows Explorer (or the Mac equivalent, if you're not a Win PC user). In Explorer you'll see the file listed, but will not be able to see actual thumbnails of the CR2 files... Unless you install a codec that allows it. If using a 32 bit operating system, there's a free Canon codec. If using a 64 bit OS, you'll need to go with a third party codec  that might cost a few dollars (I'm using one that's called FastPictureViewer, which cost me $15 US per computer if memory serves... this has the advantage of allowing me to view not only Canon RAW file previews and thumbnails, but also many other camera manufacturers' proprietary RAW formats). This is just a convenience, really, being able to see the RAW file as a thumbnail and preview it in Windows, prior to converting it.
With or without the codec installed, you can simply use Explorer (or the Mac equiv.) to drag and drop, move or copy the image files to a folder on your computer, bypassing Elements entirely.  This is at least as fast, might be even faster.. But doesn't allow you to do some other things with the files during the download, such as renaming or adding copyright info. I do this all the time, since I am often downloading multiple memory cards and busy with my RAW conversion software getting started on editing the images already downloaded.
Once the CR2s are on your computer, you still have the same problem being unable to view and open the CR2 files in your older version of Elements.
You could convert them to DNGs. There's a free DNG converter available for download from Adobe. The DNGs should work fine in Elements 7 (and have an added, modest advantage that they don't need the small "sidecar" file to save conversion data, like other types of RAW files do).
Or, once the CR2s are on your computer, you could use a different program for the conversions. There are several freeware RAW converters available (GIMP, for example). I haven't used any of them recently, so can't really recommend one over the others.
Or just spend around $100 for a new copy of Elements 11 and be fully up to date with that software, able to continue downloading via Elements if you wish, and have some of the newer tools that have been added in more recent versions of the software. I saw a big improvement in noise reduction quality, for example, going from Photoshop CS4 to CS5 (Elements 7 is based upon CS4). I don't use Elements (I use Lightroom and Photoshop), but am sure there are other improvements you might find worthwhile, too.

  • Viewing Canon 7D RAW images on iPad

I'm a photographer and I'm interested in getting an iPad if it will let me view the RAW images on a memory card in the field to determine their quality. I don't want to use the iPad as a backup storage device; I just want to view the RAW images in a large enough size to determine whether I should keep them or throw them away. Then I want to delete those images *+from the memory card and from the iPad.+*
From what I've read so far, it seems that you must actually download the images onto the iPad before you can view them large (i.e. you can't zoom the thumbnails displayed from the card itself.) Is this correct?
Then, presumably, once I've reviewed the images on the iPad, I'd have to reconnect the memory card in order to delete the ones I don't want. Would I have to re-download these selected images to the iPad in order for it to give me the option of deleting them from the memory card or can I just instruct it to delete the selected images directly from the card? I have a Canon 7D that produces 18MP RAW images, so I want to do as little unnecessary transferring of files as possible.
I'm also trying to find out if the iPad handles RAW images from the 7D. I've seen conflicting information about this.
    Thanks for any help.

Using the camera connection kit you can download the raw files and the iPad will show them, but you will not actually see the raw data. What you see is the same that you see on the LCD on your camera (when you shoot raw). It is the JPG preview that is embedded into each raw file. There is no raw editing on the iPad.
Using the camera connection kit you can download selected images and then decide to delete those from the camera or card. It is not a file manager, though. The only functionality you have is to select them, copy them onto the iPad, then after that's complete delete the ones you copied from the card. If you decide not to delete them right away I think you have to go through the procedure of downloading them again to be able to delete them.
I don't have a 7D so I can't confirm if the iPad recognizes those raw files properly.
I'm a photographer as well and I found the iPad to be not useful to use as a device to check images during a shoot. You have to initiate a file copy each time by hand and since there is no raw processing whatsoever you can't inspect the raw photo to fine tune exposure. I still use a normal laptop running Lightroom tethered to my camera when I shoot in a studio.

  • How can I import Canon .CR2 raw files gererated by the new Canon 5D MkIII?

Just got the new Canon 5D MkIII and none of the Adobe products can recognize the raw files (called .CR2) it generates.
I'd be happy just converting them to .DNG but converters won't recognize them either.
Anyone know a solution for me?
    Thanks.

The Release Candidate 6.7 converter does work with the 5D Mk III and as stated LR 4.1 RC also works:

  • How can I view both the RAW and JPEG version of an image in LR?

I just took some images as both RAW and JPEG images thinking I would see them as separate images in LR4.  However I see them as a single image with a file name that says RAW + JPEG.  They are separate images in my folder but I can't import them as separate images.  Thanks for any help.

You need to edit Prfeferences>General Tab and check the option to "Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate photos". That will work for future Raw+Jpeg pairs, but it doesn't work for already imported pairs. For these, the easiest way to deal with them (after changing the Preferences as described) is to go to the folder containing the existing pairs in the Folders Panel, right-click on it and select Synchronize Folder....this will give you the option to import the Jpegs as separate files.

  • How can i view nikon images in photoshop? i have cs4 so the camera raw plug-in is not an option and i've lost my disk from the initial purchase of the D90.

how can i view nikon images in photoshop? i have cs4 so the camera raw plug-in is not an option and i've lost my disk from the initial purchase of the D90.

The NEF file only gives a little "nef" icon.  i was able to convert the NEF to DNG on the old computer and then brought the files over to the new computer.  On the old computer, the NEF files were depicted as little jpeg's so I would be able to see a picture of what each file represented.  On the new computer, both the NEF files and the DNG files are depicted with icons, "nef" or "dng", but not as little pictures.  On the new computer, though, I am to import the DNG's into Adobe and edit them so that is working regardless of whether or not a picture is present for the icon of each file.  I've downloaded the DNG converter from Adobe and will try the conversion directly on the new computer when I get home from work.  I do appreciate your responses and will let you know how it works.
I am curious then, since right now the files are represented by little "nef"'s and little "dng"'s: If I also download the viewNX (spelling might be wrong, sorry) from nikon, do you know if that maintains the file as a RAW format file but allows a picture representation of the RAW file for the icon?  (That would make it easier to choose which RAW files I would choose to edit and which to not even bother with as an initial culling if that makes sense.
    Cheers.

  • How do I update Lightroom 4.4 to download canon g16 raw images?

How do I update Lightroom 4.4 to download canon g16 raw images from my camera?

You cannot read your G16 native raw files with any version of LR 4 so there’s no information, here, about paying to update from LR4 to LR 4.4.  You need LR 5.2 to read G16 raw files natively.  LR 4.x to LR 5.x is a pay-for upgrade.
Alternatively you can use the DNG Converter 8.2 or newer to convert the G16 raw files to DNG raw files and those will work in your older LR 4 version.
Adobe updates whatever the current version is with new cameras, so once LR 5 came out LR 4.x ceased to be updated for new cameras.

I have udated LR 4 to LR 4.4. It is supposed to open the newer Canon camera RAW files like the 70D. After updating with the download from Adobe LR ver. 4 will still not open the 70D RAW files. Does anyone have any suggestion? I must be doing something incorrect or am missing a step to the update. Thanks!
