    If you forgot your AppleID, you will not be able to get that music into iTunes or onto another iPod.

  • I had to reinstall iTunes and lost the library, so I used what I had on my hard drive, but I have much more music on my iPod classic than is in the iTunes library. If I synch now will it delete all that extra music from my iPod?

    I recently had to reinstall iTunes on my PC (Windows 7) and lost most of the library. I restored with what I had on my hard drive on the PC, but there is much more music on my iPod classic than is in the iTunes current library. I'm worried that if I synch now it will delete the extra music from my iPod, some of which I don't have available to re-rip etc.. Will this happen, or is it safe to synch more content without losing from the iPod what is already there but not in my iTunes library on the PC?  Thanks in advance for any help.

    Are you now using a different username from the one you used prior to migrating? If so that is the reason for the problem. You might, then, give this a try:
    To fix Home folder permissions
    Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder.  At the command line prompt enter or paste the following command line:
    sudo chown -R `id -un`:`id -gn` ~
    Press RETURN.  You will be prompted to enter your admin password which will not be echoed.

  • How do I copy music files from an iPod 5thGen to a new iTunes installation?

    My old WinXP computer crashed & burned (literally). I installed iTunes (11.2.2.3) on my new Win7 PC. How do I copy all my music from my 5th Gen iPod into the new iTunes? My music collection contains only MP4 files ripped from my CD collection--nothing purchased from the iTunes Store. I located a folder named Apple on one of my old flash drives which contains a subfolder named iTunes Music. That folder contains subfolders for each of my original CDs with MP4s for all the tracks. Could I use those files to restore my music to iTunes?

    If is a MicroSD card you'll need a MicroSD to SD card adapter. Something like this.
    Once you have one of those just insert it into the SD card slot on your Mac then open a Finder window and select all the images and press Command + c to copy then go to the folder you want to put them in and select it and press Command + v to paste to that folder.

  • How do I upload music from my iPod to my new computer's iTunes Library?

    To try to explain this simply;
    I recently purchased a new computer (Toshiba laptop),
    I have already uploaded some CD's to my Library and synced my iPod Touch to my Library,
    But when I connect my iPod Classic to my computer's iTunes tells me that my iPod is already synced to another Lirbrary and gives me the options of either to "Transfer Purchases" or " Sync and Erase",
    I've tried to "Transfer Purchases" but it seems to upload literally only iTunes store purchases but I want to upload ALL of the music from my iPod to my Library because I have purchased albulms from a (deleted) Rhapsody account and I also have Youtube converted songs (which basically makes up my entire Library),
    I also have uploaded files from my old computer with an external hard drive but I have absoulutly no idea how to find them,
    So! I need to upload my music from my iPod to my Library without deleting music from my existing Library or my iPod
    Please help! And please explain as well as you can, I get confused easily..

    The best way is to use the backup you made on the old computer and restore the iTunes folder to the new computer. No backup? The if the old computer is still working using an external device to copy the iTunes folder from the old computer and copy it to the new one.
    If neither of the above are doable, and you have a PC, use this:

  • Why doesn't my iTunes content show in Library? Also, How can I sync music purchased on my iPhone to my PC's iTunes Library?

    I have been having several annoying problems with iTunes for the past several months...
    1) Library content not showing after folder relocation:
    First, in order to free up space on my C drive, I wanted to relocate my iTunes folder to a new 1TB hard drive (F) I installed. I did so according to Apple's instructions online, but despite setting the new location to be my library in my iTunes preferences, the content never shows up in the iTunes Library in the actual application. This is my most annoying problem, so please someone help me to resolve this! Thanks.
    2) Albums purchased on iPhone 5 only sometimes sync with PC
    I have purchased a few albums on my iPhone 5 and only some of them have synced to my PC when I connect my iPhone via USB. They don't even appear under the "Purchases" playlist in the iTunes Store. So, I have content right now on my iPhone that I can only access via my iPhone, and some of the music has gone missing. One or two tracks from albums are not there despite me purchasing full albums at a time... This is also pretty dang annoying and prevents me from trying a solution I'd looked up to fix my third problem...
    3) Album artwork mixed up/mismatched on iPhone 5
    This is pretty self-explanatory. Ony day my album artwork decided to play musical chairs. So now, for example, it shows Andrew W.K.'s bloody face when I listen to Zedd, and shows Skrillex when I listen to Symphony X. I read online that if you desync your content on you iPhone so that none of the music is there any longer, and then resync content from your computer, it will fix this issue. I'm hesitant to apply this solution until I can fix the ones above though, because I don't want to lose content that I have legally paid for.
    My final problem:
    4) Apple charges $20 for a support phone call for iTunes
    Seriously, WTH? I hope the community can help me out. Thanks all!

    1) The best way to relocate the iTunes library folder is to move the entire iTunes folder with all subfolders to the new path, then press and hold down shift as start iTunes and keep holding until prompted to choose a library, then browse to the relocated folder and open the file iTunes Library.itl inside it.
    If you've done something different then provide some more details about what is where and I should be able to help.
    2) Purchases on the device should automatically transfer to a Purchased on <DeviceName> playlist, but it my depend a bit on whether automatic iCloud downloads are enabled. If there is a cloudy link then the transfer might not happen. You can use File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. In iTunes you should also check out iTunes Store > Quick Links > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer.
    3) Backup the device, then immediately restore it. In some cases you need to add a restore as new device into that equation. Obbviously not to be attempted until you're sure all your media is in your library. See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device should it be needed.
    4) I believe there is complimentary 1 incident 90-day support with hardware purchases, but no free software support for iTunes itself. AppleCare gets you a different level of support.

  • How to extract my music file from my ipod???

    I have had this Ipod for about 3 years and I am ready to buy a new one. But I have all my music in this Ipod. Does someone know how to extract this music so that I can feed my new Ipod?

    You can't directly transfer music from iPod-to-iPod.
    You can transfer your current iPod's music to your computer, then transfer that to your iPod.
    There are a few different methods of transferring music from your iPod to your computer (on a Windows).
    Method 1 - Manually transfer your iPod songs to iTunes using MacMuse's post. See it here -> iPod songs to computer (MacMuse post)
    Method 2 - Add your iPod's folder into the iTunes library (via iTunes). Read this post here -> Using iTunes settings to transfer iPod songs to iTunes
    Method 3 - Use a third-party program to get the transferring done. For a Windows computer, CopyPod should work good. Also, you can try out YamiPod
    After this, you can connect your new iPod, and transfer the songs from the iTunes library to your new iPod.
    I hope that info helps you.

  • How much memory an object consumed?

    Via making an internet lookup and writing some code, i made an implementation of
    how to calculate how much memory an object consumes. This is a tricky way.
    However, how can i achieve a better and direct way? Is there a tool for attaching
    to JVM and viewing the memory locations and contents of objects in memory?
    I wrote the tricky way to Javalobby and pasting the same explanation to here too.
    I must say that this tricky way does not belong to me, and i noted where i took
    the main inspiration etc. at the end.
    Because of the underlying structure Java does not let
    users to access and directly change the content of
    instances in memory. Users could not know how
    much memory is used for an object, like in C.
    However this tricky method lets them to know in an
    indirect way.
    To achieve how much memory is used for an object we must
    calculate the used memory before and after the object is
    created.
    MemoryUsage.java
    * User: Pinkman - Fuat Geleri
    * Date: Mar 20, 2005
    * Time: 11:13:50 AM
    * The class which makes the calculation job.
    * Calculating the difference of used memory
    * between calls
    * "start()", and "end()".
    * So if you initiate an object between those
    * calls you can get how much memory the object
    * consumed.
    * Initial inspration from
    * http://javaspecialists.co.za/archive/Issue029.html
    public class MemoryUsage {
         long usage;
         public void start(){
              garbageCollect();
              Runtime r=Runtime.getRuntime();
              usage=r.totalMemory()-r.freeMemory();
         public long end(){
              garbageCollect();
              Runtime r=Runtime.getRuntime();
              return (r.totalMemory()-r.freeMemory())-usage;
         public String memorySizeToString(long l){
              int MB=(int) (l/1048576);
              l=l-1048576*MB;
              int KB=(int) (l/1024);
              l=l-1024*KB;
              return new String(MB+"MB "+KB+"KB "+l+"BYTES");
         private void garbageCollect() {
              Runtime r=Runtime.getRuntime();
              r.gc();r.gc();r.gc();r.gc();r.gc();
              r.gc();r.gc();r.gc();r.gc();r.gc();
              r.gc();r.gc();r.gc();r.gc();r.gc();
    Therefore the first file MemoryUsage.java is coded.
    It simply calculates and stores the used memory when
    start() method is called. After generating some objects,
    the end() method is called to get the
    difference between memory usages, between the start()
    and end() method calls.

         //remove the comments in order to make the same checking by yourself..
         private void sizeOfExample() {
              mu.start();
              //byte []b=new byte[0];//<-byte array 16byte,each byte addition equals 1 byte!!
              //String s="How much memory is used?";//string consumes no byte!!
              //byte c=20; //<-consumes no memory!!
                    //Object o=new Object();//object consumes 8 bytes..
              //Object []oa=new Object[100];//<-object array consumes 16 byte! and each addition object 4 bytes!
                    //List list;//non initialized object consumes no memory!!..
              //Integer i=new Integer(1);//an integer object consumes 16 bytes!
              //List list=new ArrayList();//An array list consumes 80 bytes!.
              /*for(int i=0;i<10;i++){ //An array list + 10 integer consumes 240 bytes  :)
                   list.add(new Integer(i));
              Random r=new Random();
              byte []rand=new byte[1];
              int count=100000;
              List list=new ArrayList(count);
              for(int i=0;i<count;i++){
                   r.nextBytes(rand);
                   list.add(new String(rand));//empty string occupies no memory??
              DefaultMutableTreeNode root=new DefaultMutableTreeNode();//8 byte when single!.
              Random r=new Random();
              byte []rand=new byte[10];//when this is one and count is 1 million memory gets overfilled!..
              int count=500000;
              for(int i=0;i<count;i++){
                   r.nextBytes(rand);
                   root.add(new DefaultMutableTreeNode(new String(rand)));
              long l=mu.end();
              System.out.println(""+mu.memorySizeToString(l));
    An example usage can be found in the second file
    SizeOf.java. Simply remove the comments,"//", and execute
    to see how much memory used.
    For example:
    % Primitives does not consume any memory.
    % Non-initialized object references does not consume
    any memory.
    % Empty string and most of the small strings does not consume any memory.
    % Empty byte[] consumes 16 bytes.
    % Empty ArrayList consume 80 bytes.
    % An Integer object consumes 16 bytes.
    % Empty DefaultMutableTreeNode consumes 8 bytes..
    and so on.
    You can find the mentioned files in the attachments.
    I heard the idea of -how much memory is used- from
    Prof. Akif Eyler, and i got the main inspration from
    the site http://javaspecialists.co.za/archive/Issue029.html
    //sorry about my mistakes, and everything :)
    Thanks for your answers beforehand.

    Any good profiler will tell you.
    You can also code your own using jvmpi or jvmti.
    Also note that calling System.gc is a hint to the jvm it may or may not respect your wish.
    Test it with a few different gc algorithms and see what happens.

    I have IMac OSX 10.9.4, 4GB,Processor 3.06 with Intell2Duo. I would like to check for Malware. I run a TechTool Pro 6 every month and that comes up great.
    When check how much memory I am using, with only Safari open I am using 3.9 and more of her 4.0 memory. She is very. very slow in processing. I had 4000
    trash to clean out and it took her over an hour to expel. Also for some reason Safari will not allow me to click on a link, in my G-mail, and let it go to the page.
    It has a sign saying a pop-up blocker is on and will not let me do it. I must open the stamp to look at my e-mails and if I have redirected link now I can do it.
    I have not changed my preferences so where is this pop-up blocker?
    I have looked at preferences on Safari and Google, which I do not understand Google, and do not see where this blocker could be.
    Malware is something I want to make sure is not on my computer. Tech Tool Pro 6 is all I know of and it does not detect Malware.
    Help.

  • How much memory for the G5 2.7?

    I am buying a refurbished G5 2.7 from Apple.
    The primary application will be Pro Tools HD2 for audio mixing.
    QUESTIONS:
    (1) How much memory will I likely need? 2GB? 4GB?
    (2) I will buy the memory from Crucial. Should I remove the original memory and use only the Crucial 1GB pairs, so they are matched?
    Powermac G5 2.7   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    No need to remove the original RAM.
    How much to install depends on how you'll be using ProTools. If it's only audio (no sample players), 2GB would probably work perfectly. If you're using samplers heavily, with lots of large samples, you might want to go to 5-6GB.
    I'd start with 4GB, RAM for these is cheap (compared to RAM for the Mac Pro.)

  • My mac is runnug out of disk space. Do /i need to by external drives?  how much memory should i get

    My imac is running out of disk space. I download a lot of media from itunes. The HD movies and TV shows use so  much space. Should I switch to the cloud, clean up my memory or buy an external memory drive? If i get an external drive how much memory is suggesyed? 1TB, 2TB or more?

    Buy an external hard drive on which to save your media. The drive should be large enough to handle your entire iTunes Library plus how much you would anticipate adding to the library over the next few years. Then backup your existing library to the external drive: iTunes- Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive.
    After you have backed up the library to the external drive you can configure iTunes to use the library on the external drive in iTunes > Preferences > Advanced. Change the path to the external drive. Once you do that quit and relaunch iTunes. It should now be using the library on the external drive. Now you can delete the library on the internal hard drive to free up the space.
