How do I view the DESKTOP (not the hard drive) of my TARGET computer?

I've successfully linked two MACS using a Firewire cable and TARGET mode. When I click on the Target computer's icon, I am linked to its Hard Drive. But what I really want is to see the DESKTOP of the Target computer, and be able to drag files/folders from the Target computer to the linked computer. Is this possible? If not, how do I locate the files/folders on the Target computer desktop? Thanks

In FW Target Disk Mode only the hard disk drive and its folders/contents are seen
by the host computer viewing the TDM-enabled second machine.
If the status of the Target Disk mode computer were such that you could gain access
to a User account's Desktop folder in that user's folder (sans permissions issues)
the contents on a User's desktop folder may be retrieved. But not likely in TDM.
When the computers are both near equal in health, a way to gain access to a
remotely attached computer's hard disk drive, desktop/Finder, etc would be
through a Remote Desktop application; one could remote Administer that one.
There may be another way to do what you want, but viewing the FW TDM
enabled computer from the healthy one used to gain access to it, as though
it were a healthy computer and see its desktop file (finder) is unlikely.
The status of this questionable computer being an unknown, other ideas
would have to be based on more information to determine other options.
{and I see by the time I typed all this & had minor distraction, here, you
did get at least two replies that direct you to the user desktop folder.}
Good luck & happy computing!

I purchased a MacPro and upgraded to 2 1T hard drives.  How do I access the hard drive that is not the start-up drive?

Have you formatted these new drives yet with Disk Utility?  That is the first step.
Once they are formatted, if you want to see them on your desktop open the Finder preferences, General, and clock the checkbox that says "Show these items on the desktop" for the hard disks.  If that preference was already set you should see the drives appear after they are formatted.  Then they are there for you to use as you wish.

My old computer has broken and I had not backed up my Itunes. I now have the hard drive from my old computer (windows 7) but cannot transfer the music. How can I transfer the music from my old hard drive to the new laptop (windows 8)?

Copy the entire iTunes folder from \Users\<User>\Music on the old drive into your music folder on the new computer.
Or see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • How do I put the hard drive icon on my desktop?

Been awhile since I've been back in the Mac world. Bought a new iMac (Intel-based). How do I put the hard drive icon on my desktop. When I go to it from the "go" menu in the finder, making an alias isn't even a choice!

Click anywhere on your desktop so that Finder is displayed up on the menu bar. Next open Finder Preferences... select the General tab and check the Hard disks box.

  • How can I add the hard drive icon to the menu bar on a MBPr

How can I add the hard drive icon to the menu bar on a MBPr?  I have downloaded Google Earth and it wants me to drag it to the hard drive for install. I was able to display the icon but now I would like to put it on the menu bar. Is this possible? Or can I add it to the hardware section under system preferences?
I'm a new Apple user, coming out of the dark ages of a lifetime in the PC Windows world.
    Thanks

It's on your Desktop, is it not? You cannot put it on the menubar through OS X although you may find third-party utilities that will. If you want it on the Desktop:
Select Preferences from the Finder's Finder menu and check the desired boxes:
Click on the Sidebar icon in the toolbar to set what you want displayed in the Sidebar.

  • How do i erase the hard drive and reinstall?

How do i erase the hard drive and reinstall everything? My computer is running slow and i thought with having a 2.4ghz processor and 4gb of ram would make speed not a factor but obviously i was wrong in that my comp is running slow. Not as slow as my pentium processor desktop but its too slow for my tastes. Im waiting to get an external hd so i can save my songs and pictures to before i do erase everything.

Go to finder and in Spotlight, type in erase and install. The second choice is "Reinstall OS X. Print that out and follow the directions.
    Good Luck.

Boot from your Mac OS X installer DVD.  After selecting a language, choose "Disk Utility" from the menu bar.
When Disk Utility launches, use the "Zero Out Data" option under the Erase tab.  Erase the entire disk, not only the free space.
One pass of zeros is secure enough for normal use.  One pass will take a couple of hours, so plan some time.

  • How much noise should the hard drive make on a MBP early 2011?

Had since May/June last year i5 13" and only since I applied all updates few weeks ago it seems to be louder than it was before?
It sounds like a fan but isn't... obviously. Right hand side of track pad, and covering it, in fact just touching it dampens it to barely audible. Is that normal or has something gone a bit weird? A constant fan noise, which isn't the fan is now there permanently.

    None.
The machine should only make noise if the Superdrive is being used or the CPU's heavily used, going by my Early 2011 17".

It's possible it wasn't installed correctly and/or the case is slightly off so it's resonating the hard drive vibrations.
Make sure you have a internet connection (don't move) and reboot the machine holding the d key down like forever and Hardware Test will run.
Backup your data off the machine, if the hard drive dies under 1 year or three years with Applecare, then go get a new one. else you can replace it yourself with a better one and not void your warranty if you don't break anything doing so. Add more RAM while your at it.

As you know Mac's are made by hand by young Chinese women working 12 hour shifts performing the same function every 7 seconds for only $1.20 a hour. They live 7 to a box room and have to pay 70¢ a meal.
All in all I would say they are very tired, and it's possilbe a few defects made it to your machine.

  • How can I remove the hard drive from an iMac g4 before recycling it?

How can I remove the hard drive from an iMac g4 before recycling it?

There are take-apart guides online.  For example
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/systems/imac_g4/imacg4_takeapart.html
However, you can also consider securely erasing the hard drive instead.  You can do this using a Mac OS X installation disc with a version that your iMac G4 can boot from the optical drive.  If this is a viable option, please post back (include Mac OS X version on installation disc).

I have Adobe Photoshop CS5 installed in two computers. The hard drive of my home computer crashed and I had no time to deactivate the software. The hard drive needed to be formatted. How can I activate the software CS5 again ? Thank you for an answer.

If it's the same computer, same CPU and same HD, no de-activation or re-activation should be necessary.
Install from scratch and apply all updates manually.
Please do a forum search.  I and others have repeatedly answered the question about failed updates of CS5 a whole bunch of times recently.
Bottom line:  the Adobe auto updater is utterly useless in CS5 and prior versions.  You need to download the updates and apply them manually yourself.
I and others have even supplied the links for Mac and Win, which you haven't even bothered to specify.
