How do i watch movies on my APPLE TV 2nd generation that I rented on itunes 11??

It used to have a function to MOVE on my first Generation Apple TV and on my second generation it would just appear on apple TV since it was streaming...
what has changed this function??????? Please help

You do not... the ATV is a streaming device. No content is stored on it.
If you desire to watch that content on a computer via iTunes download it and watch it.

I have 4 non apple pc exhibiting same issue. Whether you have ten movies on board the pc or 500 on external storage Itunes locks up after you "get info" and try to add video cover from IMDB whether the art is in my pictures on PC or off USB key / external storage. 2nd Issue noticed at weekend I have a small music library of approx. 35gb music in itunes music folder when a playlist was being played within itunes and airplay was selected to an airport express that is connected to distributed music system in house all works well during party. Guest have access to DJ app via remote app or control of content being player. My kids disappeared into the front room and while playlist on notices 2 things. The ipod touch ( 4 mths old) would not connect to apple tv player 2nd generation while airplay on to music system and the infra red remote remote worked fine but apple tv would not see video files in itunes while airplay on. When airplay disabled all absolutley fine , re- enabled airplay and apple tv bumped again. I have a wireless N router and have successfully had 2 apple tv 2nd generation working off itunes video files without issue. There are delays but both are seen in remote app and both players see itunes folders. I would have thought video streaming to apple tv players sucked up more bandwidth that one airplay to airport express and one apple tv 2nd gen.
Anyone experienced same

OK - I managed to fix this. Will document for others.
I started to think it was a firewall thing. So I turned off both my Windows 7 firewall and my BT Home hub firewall. It started working!
So turned back on the BT home hub firewall - still working. So it must be a windows 7 firewall.
Went in and checked that Itunes was there as an exception... Yep. So why still not working?
Found out that the entry in my Windows 7 firewall said I-Tunes - but when you looked at the details button it wasnt pointing to a program - it was just blank.
So added a new entry and pointed that at the I-Tunes exe file.
Now all working...

Apple TV 2nd generation purchases not showing in iTunes

I just got the Apple TV 2nd generation for Christmas. I just last week purchased on the Apple TV the old movie Footloose and the new movie Footloose. I can see them and play them all I want on the apple tv but they don't appear in iTunes on my computer (either in movies or in purchased on apple tv).
On the apple tv they don't appear in my library but when i go into movies and search purchased, they appear there and there is a little cloud next to it.
I can see my itunes movie library on the apple tv.
My apple tv is connected to my computer and the apple id for both my apple tv and computer is the same.
Why is this happening? Shouldn't I be able to see my purchases on my apple tv in itunes so that I can download the movie to itunes and put on my ipad or iphone for viwing?

Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes. Then, try going to the menu item "store" (i think that's it, not at my computer) and "check for available downloads." If that works great, if not, go to the iTunes Store within iTunes, look on the right for the new Purchased section. You should be able to download your media from there. After the download(s) complete they will be seen in iTunes and Apple TV via the Computer > Movies sections.

It's not going to show under purchases because it's a rental. You have to go into settings - iTunes - check for rental.
Note: a rental will disappear once it's expired (after 24hrs or 48 hrs depending on location)

I have a apple tv (2nd generation) that I bought in the UK last October. Whe in the UK it was working perfectly but now that I have taken it back to the UAE to use, I cannot play any of my rented movies. I am able to rent the movie using my UK account but when I try to play it, the movie doesnt load and takes me back to the homepage. Very frustrating! Can anybody please help. Apple support have confirmed that my location is not an issue so I am stuck for suggestions

I would guess this is a restriction of your internet service in the UAE - A lot of middle eastern countries are restricted. Get yourself a router that support VPN, purchase a subscription to StrongVPN and then you will appear to be in the UK.

Rentals on ATV cannot be transferred.
The 2nd and 3rd gen model do not have accessible storage. Some movie purchases are stored in iCloud (if you live in the US) where you can reload in iTunes on your computer)
If you own the 1st gen aluminum model then it should be set to sync

Sounded like a good question to me but nobody seemed willing to respond. So... as I had never rented a movie, I decided to test the work flow on one of the $0.99 "specials" found on iTunes. For my test, I selected "Dark House." The 943.5 MB SD movie downloaded in about 8 minutes to the "Store/Downloads" area in the iTunes app on my older PPC computer—most likely a volatile cache area as I could not locate a physical file at the Finder level. In any case, it seems that if you select the file in the "iTunes/Downloads" tab, it appears you can play the file locally on the computer (later confirmed this). However, as I wanted to take advantage of the my ethernet connection to my main HDTV, I went to that TV2 device connected to it and checked it's local menu. Sure enough, I found the movie available in a newly added "Rentals" menu that now displayed between the "Music" and "Movies" sub-menus within my own iTunes Library menu.
Be advised that starting file takes a second or two of extra time each time the you quit/restart playback as it seems the movie must be "re-authorized" for the device each time. Further, the rental can only be played on one device at a time. That is, if you want to switch from the device to another, you must close the playback sub-menu for the current device before opening the file on an alternative device. In my case, I tested switching the movie back and forth between an TV2 device and the iTunes player.
Hope that answers your question as I plan to go and watch the move now. If nothing else, this was a learning experience for me. Quality was typical for the data rate and I had no problems viewing the content on my system. I also like the fact that chapter "descriptors" were used for this content rather than the default chapter numbers I normally use.

When you say tit only sees your music folder, are you saying it only sees your music folder or does it see other empty folders.

The other way to do this would be to download all your rentals onto the Mac, then you can choose watch them on the Mac or Airplay them to the ATV.
At least that way you can switch back and forth as often as you like during the "watching" period AND have 1 month to begin watching it after you've downloaded it.

I don't believe I've seen a solution to that error code. There's a new version of iTunes out, have you installed it yet, it might be worth trying. You might also try restarting your Apple TV and router.

Ok so I've been doing more testing. It's all videos on the iTunes store. Anytime I try to download a podcast or stream it or anything it's super slow. To download an episode of Diggnation it tells me over 2 hours to download but the time keeps climbing and I just stop the transfer.
Some people said it's an Open DNS thing? Maybe it is but it's not computer specific and I couldn't find a way to change the DNS settings in my Airport, only on each computer. I tried deleting PLists and restoring my Apple TV and restoring my Airport and nothing is working.
I don't know if it an issue with me, my ISP or Apple. Anyone else experiencing this problem?
