How do I wipe my emac?

I want to donate my emac to a school for use by special education students.  How do I wip all my personal data frm computer?

I don't  know what options does, like I said it was greyed out. Your disc utility display shows a "security options" button. My display shows only options and erase -- no secure erase.
I'm wondering if I have already deleted everything and just didn't realize it? In looking at disc utility info screen, it indicates I have 55.9 GB capacity and 53.67 available, I.e. only 2.2 GB has been used. Before more than half of the available GBs had been used...
When I bought a new MacBook Pro the Apples store transferred all info, settings, basically everything from the eMac. I then went thru eMac and moved all my personal info, files, sensitive data onto rw CDs, so I wonder if in moving them it deleted from the eMac hard drive, so there's no free space to erase, and then I wiped the hard drive so that's why the erase button is greyed out?
Sorry to be such a bother, but I'm at a loss to account for why it's so involved to accomplish this.  I have used Apple products for over 20 years, still feel I'm running full tilt just to stay with the pack :-)
Would it do any good looking for a pathway into the "free space", see if I can access that, then delete whatever is on there?

  • HT4061 iPad stolen - how do I wipe personal text messages out? Synced with my apple account and cell number but not showing in iCloud.

My iPad was stolen - I just synced it with my cellphone number and updated to the new OS the day before it's stolen. Why is the iPad not showing up in my iCloud account so that I can locate it and wipe the data?
I know that the iPad is likely still full of my text messages because I tried deleting them on my phone thinking it would also delete them from the iPad. Instead, the iPad re-populated all if the text messages I deleted back in to my iPhone.
Help! I don't want these people having my personal text messages. How can I wipe an iPad/break the sync with my phone when I don't have the iPad anymore?

What To Do If Your iDevice or Computer Is Lost Or Stolen
    iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if Wi-Fi is enabled on the device. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:

  • How Do I Wipe Data from a BB Curve that won't come on?

My BB Curve died yesterday on me and it was under warranty. To get the $160 credit for it under the warranty plan, I need to send it back.  The problem is that it has all kinds of data on it... account numbers, personal information (birthdates, addresses, numbers, etc.) of 800 people in the  directory,
But since it  won't come on, I'm stumped. How do I wipe it? I've tried changing the battery out time and again, I've tried connecting the charger with and without the battery, I've tried connecting the data cable to maybe access the phone to wipe it--all to no avail.
The pop-up I get when I plug it into my computer says: "USB Device Not Recognized."
Short of applying a hammer to it (in which case I lose the warranty), how do I reliably wipe the data from it?
    Please advise.
    Thank you,

    Hello agunodm
    Welcome to BlackBerry Support Forums
If you're device is dead then its not an easy task to wipe that device , But there are a few methods and some third party software which you can use to wipe and if succesful you may be able to recover your device also .
At first I suggest try this Kmowledge Base, if you're successful then it will delete all data within your device and also will get your device working :
KB27956 :  How to recover a BlackBerry smartphone from any state
Or you can try JL_Cmder , which you can find it here http://www.blackberryfreaks.com/JL_Cmder.html
So try it and let us know .

  • How can I wipe out Windows completely?

    Hi all,
Since my attempt yesterday to have a go at Windows 8 was a bit of a flop due to bad drivers, I erased the Bootcamp partition with Disk Utility and merged it back to the main one, and went on using my Mac as per usual.
But this morning when I switched it on, guess what... it tried to boot Windows and gave me the black screen with "no bootable disk blah blah", so now I have to start it pressing the Option key even if there's (suppossedly) no trace of Windows.
Any hints on how to completely wipe it out?
    I'm on a MacBook Pro 13" mid 2010 running 10.6.8.
    Thanks!

Go to System Preferences > Startup Disk and select OS X. To delete Windows, you have to use Boot Camp Assistant

No, nothing you can do to track it if you did not take any measures before the loss.

  • How do I update my emac?

How do I update an Emac? I need to be able to download adobe and anti virus and games,

OSX retail disks work, but the eMac needs a 1.0Ghz or faster processor for the 10.5 installer to work. She needs to check the speeds.
The sticker on the inside of the optical drive door has the serial number but also the original hardware config and processor info. In this picture:
the third line starting with "G4" has the hardware config. The example has a 1.25Ghz processor, Have your friend check that before buying any OS disks.
She should also see if the serial numbers fall in these ranges:
    G8412xxxxxx- G8520xxxxxx
    YM412xxxxxx - YM520xxxxxx
    VM440xxxxxx - VM516xxxxxx
Quite a few eMacs in these ranges had very bad logic board issues and may not be worth the cost of system disks, which are not cheap.
I hope you don't mind me asking an add-on question,
Around here, add-on posts sometimes get ignored because of the difficult they pose to the responder in keeping multiple issues straight in a single thread. We find the phrase, "exact same problem" seldom applies! It's always best to start a new thread so you get the full attention you deserve with diluting help offered to others. We gotcha covered this time, however!

  • HT201250 how do I wipe my other computer (MacBook 2008) clean so that I can sell it?

How do I wipe my Mac OS X version 10.5.8 clean so that I can sell it?

Insert your original gray startup disc and reatart while holding the C key, choose your language and at the next screen select Disk Utilities from the menu bar on top. Select your hard drive and click erase. When DU is done quit and it will take you back to the installer screen. Install OS X. When it's done shut off the macbook so that the new owner can set it up as their own when they get it.

To get replacement installation disks, call Apple.  Have the serial number of your MBP ready and a credit card.  There is a fee.

1: The absolute best way Grade A method would be to remove the storage drive and replace with another, melt the old drive in a +1500º F kiln, or smash it to tiny bits with a sledgehammer / hydraulic press and distribute the pieces into the trash as widespread as possible.
Then hold c booting from a OS X install disk (10.6 or earlier if th emachine came with that) or hold option key booting from a 10.7 install USB ($69, no user ID associated) and install your OS onto the new drive and shutdown at the Welcome screen.
2: If you don't want to replace the drive but don't want a wealthy individual, corporation or government using special equipment to read most of your data.
Then hold c booting from a OS X install disk, (or command r booting from 10.7 Recovery) and using Disk Utility to Erase with 7x overwrite on the OS X boot partition will do. Takes many hours to complete.
There might be  small bits left in mapped off sectors, journaled drives, your basically trusting the drive makers / OS maker to erase your drive completely. Then reinstall your OS and shutdown at the Welcome screen.
3: If you don't want to replace the drive, not all that paranoid, but don't want most anyone using special software like DataRescue to read your deleted data off the drive, then hold c booting from a OS X install disk, (or command r booting from 10.7 Recovery) and using Disk Utility to Erase with Zero will do. Takes about a few hours. Then reinstall your OS and shutdown at the Welcome screen.
4: If your not the least bit concerned someone could read your deleted data, simply hold c booting from a OS X install disk, (or command r booting from 10.7 Recovery) and using Disk Utility to Erase (with Security Option will do.) Takes about a few seconds. Then quit DU, reinstall your OS and shutdown at the Welcome screen.
