I finally gave up on my iBook and purchased a new MacBook. I want to try and sell my old iBook but want to erase the harddrive first. How do I do that?

I had replaced the logic board as that had died and now I am still having problems with my wireless card, computer freezing and locking up,and screen occasionally blacking out. I was sick of making repairs on it. It was time for a new computer. I figured I would sell it to someone to use s spare parts or something (unless someone wishes to figure out and solve its issues).

aha yes - Lion has changed you harddrive setup and added a "recover partition" Now it gets - not technical - but time consuming.
try:
insert your Snow Leopard installer DVD.
Reboot
Immediately After startup sound, hold down ALT.
You'll be presented with several options. Select your install DVD and continue.
If it doesn't fail:
Once the installer has started, go t the top menu and select "disc utility"
go to the "partition" screen and erase all partitions back to one single partition
return to the installer and install that older OS X version
give to buyer minus the price of a Lion upgrade
If it fails, go to step 1 and boot from your "recovery drive".
once the installer has sarted, go to the top menu and select "disk utility"
erase the drive partition that used to contain OSX Lion - this will remove your private data, all apps and OSX Lion.
Restart, hold own "eject" and remove the DVD, and shut down again.
You'll have to hand it over to the new buyer in this state. Tell him the machine will boot into the Lion installer but he'll have to create an App Store account to download and install OS X Lion. One again, give him a reduced price equal to the price of the Lion upgrade. Way I see it, no other options remain. -
Things have really changed. I can't understand how Apple could release the Lion OS as buggy as it is ? It's like reliving the nightmare of my PC days and the Microsoft crap ! Do I have to wipe the hardrive before reinstalling Snow Leopard ? The amazing thing is that when I installed Snow Leopard not a hitch, ever ! My trust in Apple is gone and believe me I will think twice before doing anymore OS upgrades, **** I can go back to the PC for a lot less money.

Hello, if you havent tried the doesktop manager option, you can do it from the device aswell... Just make sure you save all your contacts to your SIM.
you can go into your Security Options (in Options menu) and select wipe handheld.

How Do I Wipe Data from a BB Curve that won't come on?
My BB Curve died yesterday on me and it was under warranty. To get the $160 credit for it under the warranty plan, I need to send it back. The problem is that it has all kinds of data on it... account numbers, personal information (birthdates, addresses, numbers, etc.) of 800 people in the directory,
But since it won't come on, I'm stumped. How do I wipe it? I've tried changing the battery out time and again, I've tried connecting the charger with and without the battery, I've tried connecting the data cable to maybe access the phone to wipe it--all to no avail.
The pop-up I get when I plug it into my computer says: "USB Device Not Recognized."
Short of applying a hammer to it (in which case I lose the warranty), how do I reliably wipe the data from it?
Please advise.

If you're device is dead then its not an easy task to wipe that device , But there are a few methods and some third party software which you can use to wipe and if succesful you may be able to recover your device also .

Do you have access to another Mac? If so contact the two via a Firewire cable, boot your problem Mac into Target Disk Mode, Transferring files between two computers using FireWire,, and try to use Disk Utiltiy from the second Mac to reformat and erase your hard drive.

How can I wipe out Windows completely?
Hi all,
Since my attempt yesterday to have a go at Windows 8 was a bit of a flop due to bad drivers, I erased the Bootcamp partition with Disk Utility and merged it back to the main one, and went on using my Mac as per usual.
But this morning when I switched it on, guess what... it tried to boot Windows and gave me the black screen with "no bootable disk blah blah", so now I have to start it pressing the Option key even if there's (suppossedly) no trace of Windows.
Any hints on how to completely wipe it out?
I'm on a MacBook Pro 13" mid 2010 running 10.6.8.

Insert your original gray startup disc and reatart while holding the C key, choose your language and at the next screen select Disk Utilities from the menu bar on top. Select your hard drive and click erase. When DU is done quit and it will take you back to the installer screen. Install OS X. When it's done shut off the macbook so that the new owner can set it up as their own when they get it.
