How do I work this touchpad??

OK, just bought my first Mac! Got a new dual core MacBook. As I've been a Windows user all my life, I'm sure I'll be quite lost in the OS for quite some time. However, the MOST difficulty I'm having right now is just GETTING AROUND with this touchpad! I cannot figure out how to:
1. "Click" on something (like an icon or menu item) by tapping the touchpad. I can olny seem to "click" by using the button below it.
2. "Double-click" on something (to launch it) by double-tapping on the touchpad.
3. "Right-click" on something using the button. Is there even such a thing as "right-clicking" in the world of Mac?
4. "Scroll" (vertically and/or horizontally) while on a web page using the touchpad.
5. "Drag-lock." click on something once (slowly) and then drag it across the desktop by just using the touchpad. (Clicking again will relaese the object.)
These are all standard touchpad operations with any Windows-based notebook. PLEASE tell me there is some way to perform all of these operations on a MacBook. If not, I'm using OSX 10.4 - would any of these operations appear if I upgrade to Leopard (10.5)? Or is there some third-party application or driver that will give my touchpad this functionality?

All of the functions that you have asked for are available using the trackpad, though most are turned off by default. In order to turn them on you need to go into the system preferences by clicking on the apple menu icon in the upper left corner of the screen, then select system preferences.
Once that is open find the icon for keyboard and mouse and click on it.
Then click on the button for Trackpad.
Select the features you would like to turn on.

I was so frustated from this issue that I used to use Windows iTunes for mass editing info, adding Lyrics etc and then transfering songs to Mac. This tip has alleviated my pain!!

Ah, it has been mentioned daily esp since iOS 5 / iTunes 10.5 but has always been there as an issue.
Order of attempts:
Repair the installers
Uninstall EVERY Apple component (auto and manual)
Services: Restart all 3 Apple items (AMS, Bonjour, iPod)
I* always do the last almost, then launch iTunes, and only then connect iPod.
IF you see a yellow alert in Devices and Printers or in Device Manager, then I could find NO WAY to fix or repair other than a clean OS. Something messed up the device driver support.
If/when Windows asks "what to do when it detects iPod"? don't chose any default action, to me, based on hunch and 3 PCs, that seems to mess AMS up for some reason.
Tried with Windows 7 64-bit Pro and Home Premium, and also Deve Preview 8 (which other than the inability to update iOS to 5.0 seems to run better -- except when it comes to AMS thing! so seems Apple is not on the same page writitng drivers.

New iPad - love it - but how do I work this out

I bought my iPad today and I love it! But here is the question: I got it in the authorized store here in Beijing, and the guy in there installed many apps for me, including the iBooks with a tone of books. Apparently, he did it from the shop's American account. Now, I would like to keep all the apps, but use my own iTunes account for downloading some more apps and for syncing the music. Is there any way to do so without losing all the apps that he installed for me? If I lose everything that has been installed, I will not be able to get most of the apps (starting with the iBooks) which have not been released in the Chinese apps store.

Thanks for all your replies. First, let me say that I would never buy anything fake, or illegally sold anywhere in the world. But, the iPad is sold in all computer shops with Apple's license in Beijing, and it has been imported from US - not smuggled. They cost more then in US because the importer has to pay customs fee of about 150 us$, and the price of iPad here is more or less the same in all the shops with Apple's logo. The machines come in sealed boxes, and there is nothing suspicious about them. And they sell in such numbers that it would be absolutely impossible that somebody just bought iPads in US and brought them over to resell in China.
The shop where I bought mine is one of the biggest computer malls in Beijing, and the iPad is advertised all around, by which I want to say that they don't sell it under the desk, but very prominently. Beside, I got the regular receipt for it.
Yes, I asked about the warranty, and they told me that the shop will provide within for 1 year. Actually, I have rich experience with the Apple's repairing and maintaining service here, in Beijing, and all these shops with Apple's license have contract with it. It works fine, although I hope I will never need it again.
Apps that they installed for me are mostly those which I would not be able to download from my Chinese iTunes account, and the books they provided with the iBooks are all Chinese works in Chinese language, which one can download free from the website. So, this part is not against copyright law. Getting these particular books on line is not a big deal, but I love using iBooks reader, and this is the main reason why I am reluctant to sync my iPad with my iTunes, and consequently lose the iBooks for ever. I don't care about any other application so much, but I wanted iPad mainly as the superb e-reader, and without iBooks, it hardly can come to being that.
I don't know if there is a kind of a deal between Apple and its Chinese licensed dealers, but I can tell you why people still buy Apple's products in those shops like the one where I bought my iPad. Chinese government has very strict rules with everything. So, iPhone, for example, which is sold in the the official Apple Shop (there is one in Beijing too) has no WiFi, but the iPhone sold in the computer shops with Apple's license has it. I am not going to elaborate why it is so, to put it shortly - the Chinese government has problems with mobile phones with WiFi. So, what would you do if you lived here and wanted an iPhone? I bought mine in Hong Kong, with WiFi of course.
Now, I am waiting to see how it will go on between China and Apple, and what will be allowed here for download. Till now we cannot buy music from the Chinese iTunes store! I am afraid that this will be the case with books too. So, till I am sure about it, I will be using this iPad with the iBooks installed in the shop for me.
I still need to figure out how to transfer the books that I have purchased before and read them on the iPad. I know that some of them I will not be able to open because of DRM, but I hope that some others I will be able to transfer and read on this fabulous iBooks reader. If anyone still wants to help me with suggestions how to do that, it would be very appreciated!

if i go into the maps application and try search for an adress it always says no results found , even if i search for an adress that i have saved as a landmark. i havent yet purchased the voice navigation , could that be why?

Also, the address may not be found if it is spelled differently (different languages etc). I usually keep the search string short ie if I was searching for Baker Street, I might just use Bak as my search string. Same also applies to Town/City names.

Considering the app for the iPhone is for iOS, you may have problems using it on the Mac (Mac OS X)

Installed FF4 and now my TouchPad no loner works, how do I fix this?

I installed FF 4 on my Lenovo ThinkPad T61 and now my TouchPad & TouchPoint cannot be used to scroll web pages (they do however work on other programs). I installed the latest driver for the TouchPad & TouchPoint but it did not fix the problem. I also restarted FF in safe mode with Add-on disabled and this did not help either. I can scroll using the arrow key or with the curser, but it's VERY annoying not being able to use the TouchPad & TouchPoint. How can I fix this?

Confirm that you have the latest drivers for the Spyder, 4.5.6. The release notes state that earlier releases had a problem with color cast on some systems. Then run the calibration again. If you continue to have problems, you may want to take this issue up with Datacolor technical support; it's possible that your calibrator is defective, or they may have tips.

What kind of accounts? Multiple email accounts are supported.
Multiple user accounts are not.
If you are saying you would like to have one set of apps, media, etc
for work and a different set for home, and switch between the 2
depending on network login or location, this is not a feature of iOS.
If this is not what you are asking, please post more details so someone

When you are the Family Sharing organizer, purchases are billed to your account unless the family member making purchases has an iTunes Gift Card or iTunes credit on their account. The attached article has more information on how this process works.

What I may suggest in your situation would be to discontinue the Family Sharing and use iCloud calendar sharing. Using this method keeps your accounts separate but allows you to still share your calendar.

I am at a new office that uses Outlook (not Outlook Exchange) which does not sync with my mobile... I just got iCloud set up on my PC to sync my contacts, calendar, reminders, etc... The sync worked (not without flaws, but the other issues seem solvable... I think), so that i can now see all my appointments on both my phone and on my PC. The problem I am having is that iCloud moved all of my calendar items from Outlook into iCloud calendar and now when I send out meeting/calendar invites the recipients may accept them, but the meeting does not get added to their calendar. This is a huge problem and may mean that i need to turn off iCloud.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

I am replying to my own post here as I seem to have fixed the problem.
I do have some calendars that are shared. Some of those are shared with users who have time zone support turned on. So i activated time zone support on my iphone, then deleted my icloud subscription. I then signed in to icloud again and voila... problem solved.
It is a weird one as the other calendar views were always fine and when you opened an event that appeared in the wrong day (on list view), the correct date of the event was shown in the information...

Thanks Pat. I was able to resolve the problem.
OS is Windows 7 Pro, Adobe Acrobat Pro 11.0.07.
I went into the Properties file where I identified that Users only had Read & Execute and Read properties, I changed properties for Everyone to Full Control. That fixed the problem.
I don't know how the properties got changed to just Read & Execute, but there had been an automatic update the night before.

I just bought an iPhone and it seemed to be working well until I went to sync it to my computer and it synced under my old ipod. Now when I go to text it sends as my email and I can't change it to my phone number or anything. How can I fix this?

I just got an iPhone 4 today and it was working well until I went to hook it up to my computer and it asked me if I wanted to set it up as a new phone or back up all my stuff from my old ipod.
I accidentally clicked that and it had pretty much ruined my phone, deleted all contacts everything. I then did a reset through itunes and now when I send a text message it sends as my email instead of my phone number.
I've gone to settings->messages and turned off and on imessage and didn't fix it.

Yeah, you fried the phone big time.
Go into iMessage settings and set the Caller ID to your phone number.
