How do import an iDVD project into iMovie?

Hello,
I want to make changes to a movie, but I can't find the movie. It's just me. I have the iDVD project, and I know I can "play a DVD into iMovie, but wouldn't it be better to get the .proj into the event?

First, see if your MP4 file will play in QuickTime Player.
If it will, click Command-I in QuickTime Player to open the Inspector. Tell us the dimensions of the clip, and everything listed beside the word Format:

Importing iDVD project into iMovie

I want to send a slide show from iDVD into iMovie. The show looks normal in quicktime but when I attempt to drag the .mov file into iMovie I get the message "Error during import. I finally found out why I was unable to import my iDVD file into iMovie. I am a new Mac owner and I had used an illegal punctuation mark in the title of my slide show (China/Japan). I received a useless message - "The file could not be imported: unknown error". Thank you very much. My old PC with Microsoft would have immediately told me to retitle the file and that would have been that. Mac's poor error warning caused me to stop my project for days because they could not even give me a simple reason for the error. My education continues. I love the iLife software but find it to be incredibly difficult because every day I run into unexpected problems. When finished the results are truly beautiful - if you have unlimited time. I am impressed with Apple's help forum.

Well there are two options - if you have a WAR file with the code in it, then you can use the file->import WAR.
Or you can use the new->Project from source code.
Note that you'll probably need to do some library settings and some directory setting after that.

I have created a video using iMovie for the actual video portion and iDVD for the dynamic menu. As of yet I can only watch the whole video as an iDVD file. Is there a way to import the iDVD project back into iMovie for us on the web?

If you still have your iMovie Event and your iMovie Project, you can use the iMovie SHARE menu. You can share to YouTube, Share to iTunes, Share to a Movie on your Desktop, etc.

Sure, you can import the topics as a "batch" by selecting many topics at once.
As for the links, I'm thinking that as long as you maintain the relative locations between the linked topics, that all should be fine.
What I mean by the relative locations is to say that if you have a folder structure in the source project, you will need to ensure you have the identical folder structure in the destination. Then ensure the topics are copied to the exact folders.

I have found some discussion of merging, but I think this is a different matter (unless I am mistaken). I want to permanently incorporate the content of the smaller project into the larger project.

I have one question for NWDI:
There are two senarios:
A. I created a web dynpro project without NWDI. Now I want to import it into DTR. Is there any workaround?
B. My NWDI crashed and can not be recovered. Then I install a new empty NWDI. Since I checked out all the DCs to my client side. Is there any workaround to re-import the project into the empty NWDI?

You can transfer local DC project into NWDI. I have a doc which tells the procedure to Convert local CAF DC project into NWDI. For Web Dynpro project the procedure will be same. So you can go through the doc

If your DVD's are encrypted, Hollywood doesn't want you to be able to figure out how to copy them. Encryption is used in all store bought DVD's.

I would use MPG as AVI is a toss up. MPEG1 will import. You will need the QT MPEG-2 if they are MPEG-2's and them may have to rip it though MPEG Stream clip. See DVD ripping video for example:

AppleMan Thanks very much for the information, however I could't make it work. I followed your instructions to the letter, in fact I tried every which-way. I created a dedicated file into which I copied and pasted the project from "package contents" but it was still greyed out when I went to retrieve it. I also found that the file size was reduced to only a few Kb. Any further step-by-step instructions would be appreciated as I am obviously doing something wrong. Babowa It appears that in imovie everything has to be "finalised" before it can be used or shared elsewhere in the same way as a disk has to be to be played elsewhere. Funnily enough an MOV file I converted to Mp4 was not greyed out and I was able to import it.... an exercise I am not keen on because of resolution loss during conversion

Mr. Ross is right, there is no direct way to export your project with all it's elements into iMovie.
If, on the other hand, you have a completed sequence in FCP that you want to export as a finished element, then import into iMovie for you to re-edit or apply titles, music, etc. you would:
In FCP:
Click on the Sequence Icon you want to export in your browser.
Go to the menu File > Export > Quicktime Movie. Give your movie a name a navigate to where you want it stored. Make sure you choose Settings: Current Settings and have the Make Movie Self Contained checked. Click Save.
Close FCP and open iMovie.
In iMovie:
Go to the menu File > Import > Movies and navigate to the movie you just exported from FCP. Choose if you want your movie imported in it's original size, etc.
Click Import. Your movie will be imported into iMovie.
Note that using this method only gives you only the elements that made up your FCP sequence, so this may not give you the flexibility you need.
