How do iTunes U categories work now?
Hi, everyone
In the last couple of weeks, there's been a change to the iTunes U categories, to bring them in line (finally) with the new iTunes design.
Previously, when you put a new podcast online, it had a chance of being randomly placed in the 'New and Noteworty' at the top. We'd get a lot of downloads if this happened.
Now the 'New and Noteworthy' seem to work by a different set of rules. How are they being picked? Is it only new collections that are being selected? Why are podcasts that are nearly a month old up there, when I know my university has newer content?
Just trying to figure out how/when I should be releasing new podcasts, to make the most of the iTunes landscape.
Other things I've noticed:
There no longer seems to be a point in categorising your podcasts past the parent category. eg 'History, Modern' or 'History, Ancient' doesn't make a difference, it's just 'History'.
There's a new alphabetically organised box of 'all' on the category page. 'All History', 'All Science', etc. I expect that will mean a lot of universities will start naming their podcasts with 'A'. I myself am organising zoologists here for a rousing discussion on 'Aardvarks'.

How do iTunes Movie Extras work within iTunes?
So how does iTunes 9 handle Movie Extras? Are there special tags involved to keep all the pieces linked together? And does the menu work like a regular DVD does?
Are these extras and menus exactly the same as their DVD counterparts and simply ported over to a new kind of format?
I guess Im asking for a basic answer, without going into too much depth here on Discussions. I'd like to eventually create my own home movies with menus and "extra" content. (all accessible from within iTunes under a single movie menu). But for now, Im trying to to get a start on understanding how it all works.

How is iTunes suppose to work...does the Playlist on the SLVR's display...
Dear All,
I hope I have not overstayed my welcome. Can anyone who has a "properly" working SLVR with iTunes tell me how many buttons you must push to use iTunes and its Playlist? Do you have to enter the card memory first and then click on each songs icon to play it? Do you see your Playlist?
See my earlier thread on this SLVR's reluctant to be able to put tunes on the Playlist.

Again, much thanks. I will attempt to download tunes via the Windows XP to download - hopefully, it will give me some prompts to lead me.
I hope not to sound too inept but the procedure I used earlier was to connect the SLVR to the computer with iTunes up and wait for the SLVR to appear. When it does, I then drag and drop the desired tune then disconnect.
That's it. No other action. Then, I activate the SLVR to see if the song is in the PLayList. It never is.
Is it due to the SLVR's action to just take the dragNdropped tune and store it anywhere because there is no command by me to tell where to store it?

How do I get skype working now that i've upgraded to Lion 8.2?

I need to help please! I just upgraded my system to Lion 8.2. When i tried to open Skype it crashed every time. so i uninstalled it and then reinstalled it and it keeps crashing every time. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I read somehwere that i needed to upgrade my Quicktime which mine is currently 10.2. All my software is upgraded. I have not been able to find a current version for Mac os x Lion 10.8.2.

I hope i don't regret this too much!Skype has nothing to do with Quicktime (which is automatically updated with 10.8 anyway), but it sounds like you might need to trash your Skype preferences.
Hold the Option key down and click the Go menu in the Finder menubar. Click Library. Navigate to Preferences. Delete "com.skype.skype.plist". Navigate one folder back to Caches and delete the com.skype.skype folder you find there.
Relaunch Skype and let me know if that works.
PS For reference, 10.8 is called "Mountain Lion". 10.7 was just "Lion".

How does iTunes Album Artwork work in iTunes 8? Is store artwork embedded?
I know that with music I add artwork to manually, the artwork is written to the ID3 tags of the music, embedded.
I want to know if with iTunes 8, is artwork obtained from the iTunes store also written? I suspect so because in Finder, the quicklook preview of purchased music show the album art.

If not, how do I write them in permanently so they stick on whatever computer/device i copy them to?Artwork that is found and added through iTunes is not embedded. You would need to cut and paste the artwork into the Get Info box or by using third party tagging software in order to embed it.
It's possible that there exists a script to take the iTunes added artwork and embed it. You might try looking at Doug's Scripts:

How can I get the iCloud/iTunes password for my (now) deceased Father-in-Law's iMac? I have a list of his passwords, but nothing works! I know his email, but that account has been cancelled for security purposes, so we can't just request a new one. I tried his security questions to no avail.
ThanksSince that password is tied to his Apple ID, you will need to contact Apple; as far as I know, it will be a somewhat lengthy procedure and you will need to furnish necessary paperwork (including a death certificate as far as I know). Best to either stop at an Apple store or call them to find out exactly what it is you need to do.

So how does this work on Mountain Lion? I cannot seem to ignore the iTunes 11 updates, which now seem to appear every 5 minutes!!
Fantastic! Didn't work at first so restarted App store and tried again. This time it asked 'ignore update'. All gone!

I have 2 iphones, 1 personal and 1 business. I thought I was supposed to have 2 separate itunes accounts. I now have a work ipad and want to only have 1 itunes account that I can use for all 3 devices. How do I cancel 1 account or just combine the 2?
I want to be able to transfer my apps from my original itunes account that I have on my personal iphone 3 and work ipad 3 to my work iphone 4S ,as well as purchase more more apps for the work iphone with the original itunes account. Plus I need to sync all 3 of them with my work tower computer. I really appreciate you're trying to help me out.

I have a 4s iPhone which I loaded the new Os on last night. Now I can not connect to iTunes. A message comes up saying i need 10.6.3 or later but I am running 10.6.1 as I have an older Mac. Anyone have ideas how to get this to work?
Its not telling you to update your iPad, its telling you you need to download a recent version itunes on your computer.

I have tried several times to load version 11.4 and keep getting an error code2324, now I cannot sync any of my apple products. I set my machine to a previous recover date, now iTunes will not work at all. I get a message stating I do not have the administrator rights to download. Any thoughts on this issue?

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Use a friends computer. IF the ipad is telling you to connect to iTunes that is what you need to do, there is no bypassing this. -
My phone is not jailbroken and I have had no problems until now. I updated the firmware a few weeks ago with no problem. I noticed yesterday I wasnt getting all of my emails because I get some of the same emails on multiple accounts and they were not showing up. The refresh pinwheel just kept spinning but I did not think much of the problem because there is not good service in the building and plus I hava a number from the east coast but since I'm on the West coast I get subpar service comparred with the local number people, is this true? Anyways I got home and my email would still not ever finish loading so I turned the phone off but it wouldnt turn off. After 15 miniutes the shutdown pinwheel just kept spinning so then I did a hard reboot and it quickly shut down. I started it back and my email works now but none of the apps from the app store work.
Go to your App Store application and under the Featured section, scroll all the way to the bottom and tap on you account. Sign out of the account, then sign back in from the same section. Download a free application (any free app should do the trick) and that should make all of your apps work again.

How do I get iTunes 11 to work as the old iTunes did in this respect: after playing a song in one playlist, I click on another playlist, highlight a song, press play, and get the result of that song playing & that playlist continuing? As it goes now, one clicks on the song in the new playlist where the arrow is and then chooses 'Play Song Next.' So, it plays next, but then the song after that is back in the old playlist. I want to use iTunes smoothly without the extra clicks I've had to do in order to get the playlist to continue. This is music for background while I play the violin at restaurants, and extra clicks and hassle is quite unappreciated, especailly since it worked fine in the previous iTunes.
Thanks.At the top of the playlist where it shows the playlist title and the number of songs, there are two icons. Click the "play" triangle to add the entire playlist to "Up Next", or the "shuffle" symbol to do the same thing but in random order. But the currently playing track will stop playing, and all the songs in "Up Next" will be removed (replaced by the ones from this playlist).
If you hold down the "option" key while clicking those icons, the currently playing song will continue playing, and the new playlist will be added to "Up Next" (above the songs that were already there).
