How do Movie Rentals work?

I rented 'Jamesy Boy'  a few days ago and 'Adaptation' today. Only 'Adaptation shows up as a rental for me but I paid for both and have watched neither one yet?

  • How to move contacts (work Outlook) from iPhone to home outlook

    Hi,
I just left my company on Friday and I want to know how I can move my contacts from my iPhone to my home Outlook. Originally the contacts where on my work outlook and being pushed through Exchange. There doesn't seem a way to change this in the iTunes application. There is no options under info/Contacts. Any help would be appreciated.
    KP

You can Export your contacts from your work Outlook and save the file as a .PST file. You can then copy this file to a USB drive, and then Import the Contacts to your Outlook account at home. Then set the sync options in iTunes to sync with your local copy of Outlook contacts, which will put the Contacts back on the iPhone (you will have to delete your work's Exchange account settings on the iPhone: Settings > General > Profile > Remove)
This link: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HP030737661033.aspx?pid=CH063566561033 discusses Importing and Exporting Outlook data. Hope it helps.

  • How does movies model work?

I've been a Mac user since 1987 and always loved Apple for its intuitive UI. However, the model Apple's using for viewing purchased movies on iDevices is absolutely confounding me.
At one time, purchased movies seem to need to be downloaded, and you could only store as many movies as your iDevice could hold. This wasn't ideal, especially since the system tended to default to selling/offering the HD versus the space-saving SD format. I have over 40 movies but I can't afford a 64GB model, so I did a lot of swapping of movies.
Then (perhaps with iOS 7?) suddenly it seemed as though you could stream all of your purchased movies from the cloud; no more wasted iDevice space, unless you wanted to store a couple for those out-of-wifi situations. Great!
However, now I can't figure out whether my movies need to be downloaded or not. I got a new iPad and the movies didn't appear after I'd selected them in iTunes on my computer with the iPad attached and syncing. I tried going to the iTunes Store > Purchased and there's this weird Not in My Library grouping of movies. I've purchased these movies; how can they not be in my library?
DO I need to download every movie to my computer before I can stream it to my iPad? Do I need to partially download movies to my iPad before I can stream them? Or is this streaming thing just a hallucination and they need to be downloaded to each iDevice?
    Help!

In order to get an answer that is specific to the question, it often helps to ask a question that is specific enough to answer!
It might therefore help if you explain what is it you are trying to do, or wanting to do? Otherwise, all we can likely do is tell you that to use the radio feature in iTunes, you select in on the left, then pick the genre of radio station you want to listen to from the list, then from there, select the actual station. You do, of course, need an internet connection because it streams data from the station.

  • How do mov files work on iPad

    Hi.
I have been sent a movie in the mov format but it won't open on my iPad.
Can you tell me how I can view it?

Is the file on your computer or is it on your iPad?  MOV files are just wrappers and they need to be in the proper format to be viewed.  iPad 2's can view H.264 encoded movies with Main Line Profile 3.1 at 720p, while iPad 3+ can view 1080p movies encoded with H.264 HIgh Profile 3.1.  If you have the movie on your Mac, you can drag and drop it to you iPad with Pic Share It.  It will automatically convert the movie if it not in the proper format, so you can view it on your iPad.

+I've tried some suggestions online, but most suggest that the problem is with available media--I don't think that's my problem. Any suggestions?+
    You don't have enough media.
Move your IN point a few seconds into the clip, and then drop it into the timeline.
    Now apply dissolve

Thanks for the pointers folks. Yeah, 1.5GB is pretty poor isn't it? There are other suppliers, but you have to get a their phone line installed to access the internet so it's an £85 setup fee plus a day off work for a guy to come round and drill a hole in your wall before you even get to the monthly costs.
Don't get me wrong though - I'm certainly not an Apple basher, but am equally frustrated with both them and the ISP.
Virgin Media spend all kinds of money advertising their broadband as the fastest in the UK, but don't tell you (up front anyway) that you'll be cut off if you actually try and use it.
Apple on the other hand carry on with their 'it just works' mantra, but with Apple TV this only applies if you meet certain criteria (again, not mentioned up front).
I guess it aint a biggie, as i was gifted my Apple TV, and love all the other stuff it does, but from the number of posts on this forum can see that there's a lot of angry customers out there who want explanations as to why they're having similar problems to me.
Will be very interesting to see if Apple release any kind of software update that turns the flash drive from a buffer to permanent storage, to at least ease some of the pain...

How do we deal with Error 50 when downloading a movie rental then stopped with error 50 and when I try to resume the downld, it doesn't do it?

Yeah this "fix" is bunk. The movie is downloading just fine, but the extra features is the one giving me this error code. It is NOT my firewall. If it was, then both files wouldn't download. Plus, I already have the firewall "issue" tacked down and fixed. Have had it fixed for months now. No, this is due to the "new" itunes version 11 software. The only conclusion to fix this issue is UPgrading from 11 back to 10.7 which is what I am going to do. This is completely ridiculous! Come on, Apple, get itunes working once and for all, and fire the people responsible for itunes 11, just like you did to the guy who was responsible for apple maps. Thankfully Google came back to the rescue with google maps app.

  • How do I watch Oscar nominated movie rentals on my HDTV?

How do I connect my MacBookPro to my HDTV to watch an iTunes Movie rental?
Instead of sending DVDs of Oscar nominated Films to DUES paying Voting members, you have to download the films to iiTunes!
Also! One film shows as a Rental and 3 are in with my music????

3D movies are meant to be watched on a 3D device. I would purchase or download a 2D version of the movie, any "work arounds" will waste your time and cause you headache. Best of luck!

  • First movie rental - how to improve next go around....

just curious what you guys are finding for average amount of time spent downloading - my first experience was about 90 minutes. Yikes. Further, didnt even get to watch the whole movie, battery died mid stream. Fun.
Not sure how well this rental thing is going over, but I love the idea... just need to figure out how to make it work.
I only have free WIFI access these days, as in coffee shops. My MBP is 802.11g capable, thats it.

Take a look at this page:
iTunes Store: Download times for purchases will vary
It should give you an idea as to what sort of download times you can expect.

  • Request: Change how rentals work on iPad

I suggest that Apple changes how video rentals work on iPad.
First of all, I don't get why I can't start watching it before it's fully downloaded (as you can on Apple TV). It makes watching rentals on the iPad something you need to prepare hours in advance.
Secondly the video-watching experience and behavior is different on an iPad than on Apple TV. Sometimes 24h is simply not enough to finalize watching a movie. You're using your iPad in a much more fragmented and spontaneous way than your Apple TV, which is a much more dedicated couch experience.
Worst part though is that if a movie expires before you caught the last 20 minutes and you bite the bullet and re-rent it, you have to download it again and wait for 1-2 hours, although it's already on your iPad. (And you have to pay full price again of course).
I understand that this behavior is probably not only dictated by technical limitations as much as licensing rights, but it is one of these things that makes experience much less great.

Since Apple doesn't monitor these forums, making suggestions here might get us all to say "YES", it won't do anything for making changes to how rentals work.
    Please go to:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
By the way, Apple TV was developed to be a TV viewing device first (along with other multi-media), and not as a computer. It is also always on a ethernet or WiFi connection.
In addition, the 24 hour period is NOT set by Apple, but by the licensor, whether it's NBC, CBS, Sony or whomever owns the intellectual property. They set the time period. If you have an issue with downloading, Apple almost always helps you out. If you just choose not to finish the movie in 24 hours, that's kind of your issue not Apple's. By the way, PS3 rentals through the Sony store work in the exact same manner.
I understand what you're saying, but I just think you're swimming upstream against licensing rights.

  • How do i watch movie rentals i rented on my imac but view on my apple TV

How do I watch movie rentals I rented on my iMac but view on my apple TV?

How do I watch movie rentals I rented on my iMac but view on my apple TV?
Sounded like a good question to me but nobody seemed willing to respond. So... as I had never rented a movie, I decided to test the work flow on one of the $0.99 "specials" found on iTunes. For my test, I selected "Dark House." The 943.5 MB SD movie downloaded in about 8 minutes to the "Store/Downloads" area in the  iTunes app on my older PPC computer—most likely a volatile cache area as I could not locate a physical file at the Finder level. In any case, it seems that if you select the file in the "iTunes/Downloads" tab, it appears you can play the file locally on the computer (later confirmed this). However, as I wanted to take advantage of the my ethernet connection to my main HDTV, I went to that TV2 device connected to it and checked it's local menu. Sure enough, I found the movie available in a newly added "Rentals" menu that now displayed between the "Music" and "Movies" sub-menus within my own iTunes Library menu.
Be advised that starting file takes a second or two of extra time each time the you quit/restart playback as it seems the movie must be "re-authorized" for the device each time. Further, the rental can only be played on one device at a time. That is, if you want to switch from the device to another, you must close the playback sub-menu for the current device before opening the file on an alternative device. In my case, I tested switching the movie back and forth between an TV2 device and the iTunes player.
Hope that answers your question as I plan to go and watch the move now. If nothing else, this was a learning experience for me. Quality was typical for the data rate and I had no problems viewing the content on my system. I also like the fact that chapter "descriptors" were used for this content rather than the default chapter numbers I normally use.

  • Movie rental Q: How many times can you watch the film within 48 hours?

It's just I have 8 hours left on Into The Wild and I fancied watching it a second time, only it is not playing when I click on the thumbnail. It just says "accessing the iTunes store" for a few seconds. I've tried clicking play. Other films appear to work ok, just not this one. I assume that if it doesn't let me watch it a second time iTunes will give me free movie rental credit.

According to the FAQ "Once you've started to watch the movie, you have 24 hours to finish watching the movie (even if you start watching before the download is complete). You can watch the movie as many times as you want within this 24-hour period": iTunes Store movie rental usage
If you are having problems you should contact iTunes Store Customer Services.

I have aperture 3.2.4 on my laptop and have the serial number, but just bought a new MAC and I can't get the Ver 3.0 link to work. Anyone know how to move it from my laptop to our new mac?

I am talking about the Ver 3 download link that came with the purchase email.
That link is no longer available. Use "Migration Assistant" to copy your Applications from your old mac to the new Mac, then immediately run software update. Aperture Version 3.2 will not run on your new mac with Mavericks, you will have to Upgrade to version 3.4.5 at least - you can download this update from the Support page: Aperture 3.4.5
Then launch Aperture and enter your registration key and try now too update from version 3.4.5 to 3.5 from the AppStore. The AppStore will change your Aperture registration to an AppStore version, so you will able to reinstall by downloading from the AppSTore in future.
If you want transfer only Aperture and no other applications, do it manually: You will have to copy not only the application but folders from the libraries as well:
    /Applications/Aperture.app
    /Library/Application Support/Aperture/
    ~/Library/Application Support/Aperture/
