How do styles get translated from Pages for iPad to/from Word?

I can't seem to get the styles of Pages on the iPad and Word 2004 on the Mac to match up. Can anyone offer advice?
When I import a Word doc to the iPad, the Normal style does not get converted to a specific Pages style; the Style box in the ruler remains blank. Other styles, such as Headings of various levels, do get converted.
Reversing the process, when I export a Pages document to Word, the Body style (the Pages equivalent of the Normal style) gets exported as well. A new style with this name is created in Word. If a style already exists with this name, then "Body 1" is created. I can't find a way to match the Body style with some preexisting style within Word.
This is really inconvenient, because Word relies on consistent use of styles. For instance, if I create an outline in Word, import to iPad, modify, and export to Word, the body-level text is promoted to a heading -- screwing up the outline.
The problem occurs whether I save as doc or docx.
I wonder whether there's a workaround, such as using specific style names

I just did a test and moving a doc back and forth a few times and got even worse confusion than you did.
There appears to be no clear answer there, just more confusion. It would seem that best practices at the moment are saving your orig document in Word as Word 97 and using Normal or Body Text but not both. This is probably easier said than done since Word tries to slip the unstyled Normal in all the time.
I guess this hasn't seemed any different than normal to me, since I am used to working with Word docs that move between different versions of Word, different Word formats, different OSs, antiquated OSs and having different fonts installed. I recent years I don't think I have ever had a Word doc open 100% intact.

  • How to integrate address book in Pages for iPad?

In Pages for Mac, I could drag Address Book entries directly into Pages to automatically populate Name and Address placeholders.
How do I do that in Pages for iPad?
Currently, iOS Pages does not pull my details (name & address) automatically into letter templates either, as is the case with Mac Pages.

I have the same problem / need.
Does anybody know if there is any sort of integration of iOS pages with Contacts in iPad / iPhone?

  • How do you highlight text in Pages for iPad? The document I want to create and highlight is a pages document

I am trying to create a document in Pages for iPad and want to highlight various bits of text but can not find a function in the inspector for this. Can anyone help, please?

    Hi stuartdj,
I'm not finding a way to highlight text as one can do with iBooks (hold and swipe for black text, background yellow for example).
One option is to actually color the text itself.
Select the text, then in Style tools, tap the Font name at the top which shows the Text Options sheet where there is a Color option.  Would changing the font color to Red, Green or Purple accomplish your goals?
If you do want black text on a colored background (highlighted) it would need to be text in a text box where you can change the fill (background) color.  Style, Style Options, Fill.  But this is not inline text and doesn't flow like just coloring the font itself.

  • How do I get to updates page for books on iPad

I apparently have 51 books needing updated on my iPad Air. How do I get to my updates page please?

    Hi Liz,
You must be noticing the updates badge next to the Purchased button in the navigation bar.  If you click on purchased, you can scan the items for the ones that have an update.

I'm not seeing a filter for "updates only" however.

  • How do I get custom hardware approval for iPad-app?

    Hi!
The company I´m working at is in pre-production on an app project for which we would like to manufacture an optional hardware controller. We have read all the app store review guidelines, and we can´t see any reason as to why the project shouldn't be approved by apple in a future review process. But since it seems risky to start production and manufacturing I also thought that it might be a good idea to run the basis of the project through this forum in case we have missed anything.
The project is most easily visualised as Guitar Hero for iPad, with the added choice to buy an optional guitar controller to play the game. Our concept is actually a bit different than the above description, but I believe that this is the easiest way to describe the project wihout getting too wordy.
Four (4) controllers will communicate simultaneously with the iPad via Bluetooth LE. Since the connection to the iPad is done via Bluetooth LE, and since we do not wish to conform to the specified "standard control" layout, or an "extended control" layout, we do not see the possibility, or the need, to join the MFi program.
So my first precise question would be: Does anyone see any reason as to why we would not be allowed to make our own custom controller using Bluetooth LE, without the MFi approval?
My second question would be regarding selling the app, and the hardware, from the app-store.
We hope to be able to sell the app, together with the custom controller, via the App Store. We imagine it could work in the lines of the customer being presented with the options to buy the app with or without the hardware, and if the customer chooses to buy the app and the hardware he/she will be prompted to provide a shipping address and that information will be sent to our supplier.
The way I understand the guidelines you can't use in-app purchases to sell physical goods, but maybe the app could provide a gateway to our online store?
So my second question would be: Does anyone see any reason as to why we would not be allowed to ship our hardware to the customer after they have bought the application via the App Store? Or are there any other apple approved ways of providing our customers with the hardware via the App Store?
    Thank you for your time!

  • How do I show invisibles in Pages for iPad?

I'm using Pages on an iPad 2.  I'd like to show "invsibles" or formatting marks in my documents but don't know how to do it.  Can anyone please help?
    Thanks
    Alison

    Hi, I had the same issue and found the answer elsewhere. So in case you haven't yet;
Invisibles only become visible in Pages for iOS when you select the text around them (I know! I thought the same thing when I found out!).
There is no way (currently) to turn them on as you can in Pages for OSX.
    Cheers, Adrian.

Just saw your post. Better late than never. You may want to
consider GameBrix.com, where you can create Flash based, casual
games using your web browser. No downloads are required. You can
create a game from scratch using a library of images, sounds and
game mechanics. You can also upload your own. The online script
editor will allow you to view and edit the ActionScripts associated
with each game mechanic. In short, a great way to ramp up on game
design and build your own game without investing a lot of $
    upfront.
BTW I am associated with GameBrix so any feedback is
    appreciated.

  • How to change highlight color in Pages for iPad?

Is there any way to do this? I know i can highlight selected text, but there is no option for choosing the color. It's always yellow and I would really like to highlight my text with many different colors.

It looks like the Highlight (background) color can only be yellow.
The best work around I can find is to change the text color itself which may work like a highlight of the text (like red, green or blue) which makes it stand out.  Maybe that will help?
Format Inspector (the brush) > Style > Touch the Size and Font item > Color > swipe to see options.
Note even there you can't go beyond predefined colors but you can make text stand out.

  • How to: Subscripts and superscripts in Pages for iPad?

I have a little problem with Pages on my iPad; I must realize a scientifical report and I need to use subscripts and superscripts. Are they present in Pages??? How can I attive them?
    Thanks.

Does Pages on the iPad have an Inspector panel? In the Mac version, it's a round blue button in the icon bar at the top of the window.
If you've got that in the iPad's Pages app, then you can use it to manually raise or lower the baseline of one or more characters, then use the font size to make them smaller. Superscripting after a numeral can be automatic (in the Mac version) by setting that in the Prefs.
You can probably tell I don't have my iPad yet.

  • How can I disable ligatures in Pages for iPad?

This has been driving my crazy all day!
In the Courier New font, pages combines the lower case letters "fl" into a single character.  This is causing huge problems as I pass my manuscript between my pc and iPad, printing from whichever device is most handy at the moment.
This ligature is ugly and is causing anything printed from the iPad to print up a few lines shorter than the sme text printed from my PC because of the space "saved" by combining f and l into a single glyph.
I've been trying to use the iPad's Courier font, which doesn't have the ligature, but it's a much bolder font and up more black ink.

That is very odd behavior, as ligatures are really undesirable in that kind of font.  I don't think there is any way to stop it.  Let Apple know:

    How do I add fonts?

You are limited to the fonts included in the apps, there is no way to add outside fonts. Pages comes with some nice ones, however. See the product's included help how to make use of them.
