How do uninstall / reinstall Firefox without losing bookmarks / favorites

I recently upgraded Firefox to the 'optimized for Yahoo' version and have been experiencing slow starts and stalls. This happened once before when I upgraded Internet Explorer to an 'optimized for Yahoo' version. I was able to uninstall it and reinstalled the latest version from Microsoft, but I lost all my bookmarks / favorites in the process.

I reinstalled Firefox and the problem was solved. I have to say I am pretty disappointed with the support that I have got here. The helpers listed all the ways that I try to fix the problem but none of them worked. Also backing up data did not do anything. I lost all my history and saved password even though I followed the exact same steps as you gave me.
Seems like a lot of people are facing the youtube video problem, hope you guys can figure out how to fix it so that everyone is satisfied with using your service.

About 15 minutes ago I reinstalled Safari and all my bookmarks remained intact... here's what I did...
I had a problem with Safari not opening after Security Update 2005-007. I used a program called Pacifist to get a file called Safari.pkg from my Tiger install disc.
The file lives in:
Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Packages/Safari.pkg
Open the pkg with Pacifist and drop the Safari.app file into your Applications folder.
That's it - my bookmarks all remained intact - hope yours do!
FYI - Safari bookmarks are stored in your 'user' home folder in Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist so you might want to make a copy of that and keep it safe.
If you install a browser called Shiira you can also import your Safari bookmarks into that. I managed to do that while my Safari was broken.

How can I reinstall iTunes without losing tune content of my iPod

I had a major Windows system 32 problem and had to reformat my hard drive. (Computer was backed up before incident.)
Later, I got a message about a corrupt iTunes driver and found iPod and iTunes in recycle bin.
Long story short:
I have installed updated iPod software and now need to re-install iTunes. I read somewhere how to re-install updated iTunes without losing what is already on my iPod...but I forget where I read it.
Of course, I DON'T WANT TO LOSE the content in my iPod.
My understanding is that, if I do nothing to prevent it, when I download iTunes and connect my iPod to the PC, I will lose all my iPod content because the new iTunes library will be empty.
How do I get iTunes back again, without losing my iPod tunes?
All suggestions and help very much appreciated!!

I made the mistake of changing permissions within page info on my fantasy football site. Was trying to get rid of an advertisement that covered areas of the page and prevented me from setting my weekly starting lineup.
Rather than doing that, it has made it impossible for me to log in to my team's web pages. I can log in to CBS Fantasy Football, but not to the pages that deal with my league or team.

There is another way...but to answer your question, yes. When you uninstall FF it ask to delete 'personal' files or some such expression. I did it and did not lose any of my bookmarks or even many other special settings. Edit: if you don't get a window asking to save settings, wait for another to suggest help. I could be wrong. My setup was on vista and I see you are on XP.

I was using Firefox on both Windows and Mac, and keeping the bookmarks synchronized using Xmarks. Then, as most people know, Xmarks stopped working. I continued using Windows as my main computer, so my bookmarks there are the most up-to-date, and I've backed them up in an HTML file.
Now I want to stop using Windows and switch to the Mac completely. To get the most up-to-date bookmarks, I uninstalled Firefox in the Mac and then reinstalled v15 so I could put in the up-to-date bookmarks. I've tried this a few times now, but every time I do, it pulls in all the old bookmarks. How can I prevent this, so I can get a naked Firefox and then add the latest bookmarks (the HTML file from Windows)?
I've tried resetting Firefox to its default, but it still keeps my old bookmarks and add-ons. I even found instructions somewhere to open Firefox in safe mode, but then I couldn't find the next command that I was supposed to use.

You can use a JSON backup from the Windows computer to restore (replace) all the bookmarks on the Mac computer.

A reset doesn't work because in cases like this that automatically imports the bookmarks among other data from the previous default profile.

I'm losing my mind. My son accidentally disabled his ipad mini (thought it would be cool to put a passcode on it and now he's locked it up because he entered it wrong 6 times). I've tried everything at the link for restoring, but it's not working. It keeps saying my "disk is full" and can't proceed with the recovery/restore. I've deleted as many files as I could from my hard drive on the PC but it still won't work. Backup your iTunes library - assuming you're using the default setup, this will be the C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes folder and all its subfolders - to an external hard drive. You can use a regular Windows copy operation to do this, though the method described in turingtest2's user tip on Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy is preferable. If all of your media (songs, movies, TV shows. ...) is contained within the C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media folder you've replicated your complete library; otherwise you'll separately need to take a copy of whatever other folders your media is in (and make a careful note of where it came from). Once you're 100% certain that you've copied all of this to the external drive, you can take a deep breath and delete the C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes folder to create some more free space on your C: drive - hopefully enough to install iTunes. Just to repeat and emphasize: check and double-check that you've copied your iTunes data to the external drive before you start deleting anything!
Another of tt2's useful documents - Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates - describes how to make sure that all the components of a previous installation are removed before you re-install. Given that you're likely to have pieces of iTunes on your C: drive as a result of the aborted re-install it would be appropriate to go through these steps before attempting to re-install the latest (12.1.1.4) version of iTunes.

you can set up a sync account and choose to sync addons.
Wait some time (an hr or so? Not entirely sure), so all the information is synced to the server.
Then refresh firefox, and sign back into the synced account. This will bring back all the bookmarks, histories, passwords, and addons.

I've never had problems with FCPX until the other it stopped working. I had a font that wasn't supported (which I have since deleted form my system) and the spinning wheel appeared. You didn't have to reinstall the whole OS, that is rarely nessisary.
Move the FCP X app from the Applications folder to the Trash.
Launch App Store, go to the Purchased tab.
You'll see an "Install" button next to FCP X.
Click it, let it install, you're good to go.

I can use the regular tabs, but new tabs will continue to open with strange things on them. One was marked as a Dangerous page by my anti-virus program (Trend Micro).

Don't what to say but WOW! downloaded and ran malwarebytes. It found a Trojan and something else. At the same time, my Trend Micro finally ran a scan and found 2 trojans and a cycbot, both associated with Adobe. Did the superantispyware program too, found a couple things. Backup, backup and just why not check how to disable whatever the issue was first to begin with rather than "throw the baby out with bathwater" approach. Often a browser extension or other means to remove whatever the problem was works. And surprised to see a system with only one web browser.

Open the Windows '''Control Panel''', Add/Remove Programs. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help surface innocent sounding bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
Also, could you check whether Firefox has a non-standard '''connection setting'''? You can do that here:

The default "Use system proxy settings" should piggyback on your Windows/IE "LAN" settings. But you can try "No proxy" to see whether that makes any difference.

Under normal circumstances, an uninstall/reinstall doesn't touch your content. (That being said, it's still always a good idea to maintain a current backup at all times in case of disasters of any sort.)
