How do we share photos and iTunes?

We have just bought a mac book pro and can't seem to access each others photos and iTunes via file sharing ( we have seprate user and apple ids on the same macbook)it seems to set up ok but then struggle to find each others files.. Also the iPhoto library is greyed out and unable to be added to the list- any suggestions?

To give other users read-only access to your iTunes library, use the Sharing features of iTunes. Sharing works over the local network as well as on the same computer. See the built-in help for details.
To give others selective access to your iPhoto library, you have the option of using iCloud Photo Sharing, if the privacy implications don't bother you. The images will be stored temporarily on Apple servers.
If you want to give full read/write access to more than one user, see the support articles linked below.

There is a way to share the library without moving it to a secondary volume. If you really need to do that, ask for instructions.

How do I share photos and music between different user accounts on the same Macbook? i.e. I want all to be able to access family photos when logged into their respective accounts. Same goes for the iTunes library. Hope this is possible...

  • How can I share files and itunes through extreme base station ??

How can I share files and itunes music through the extreme base station. as well as locate and place files onto the external hard drive that is connected to the X.B.S. from my or other computers hooked up to it ??
thank you in advance for your attention on this matter.

Which AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) are you discussing? The new square 802.11b/g/n AEBS supports the direct connection of USB hard drives. The previous round 802.11b/g AEBS does not have that capability. I have a feeling that you are asking about the new one but this is the discussion area for the old one.
The new square 802.11b/g/n AEBS allows you to share files directly from the connected USB drive. It doesn't matter what the files are so you can store your iTunes library there and get access wirelessly.
The round 802.11b/g AEBS doesn't have this ability.

  • How to wirelessly share photos and video on Apple TV.

Looking for some Apple TV wisdom.
I'm interesting in being able to view my photo library and home move library via my Apple TV.
My photos and movies are on a WD Live drive, but willing to move my data to another device if appropriate
All of my Macs are laptops so I don't have a computer up and running 24/7 to use home sharing.
I don't care about music because i can use icloud to stream all my music via iRadio soon by using Match.
I don't want to use AirPlay because that forces me to have my laptop with me and to bring up my photos and videso from it, which I don't want to do.
I just can't seem to find a seamless solution to this one.
I've thought about buying a used MacMini, but that requires me to find a keyboard and monitor just to set it up.  It would be great if i could plug in a Mac Mini in my entertainment cabinet and find a way to access it via my laptop(MacBook Pro).  My thinking is that I could plug the Mac Mini into my WD Live to access my media.  And then Apple TV would find the "Computer" and would get all the data off of it.
Thanks to anyone at there who has advise on this one.  Thanks!

    Thanks Winston.
I'm thinking tha I can use a monitor and keyboard for the initial set up, and then plug it in in my entertainment area and then use something like VNC to control the computer virtually through other devices.  At least that's my thinking so far.  And the other negative to this approach is that I'll have to have itunes configured on the mini as well as on my laptop for local use.
Those are my thoughts for now, but stil open to ideas from others.

  • How do I transfer photos and iTunes songs from my old iMac G5 to my new iMac (Intel)?

I want to move all of my iphoto library and my iTunes songs from my iMac G5 to my new iMac (Intel)...what is the least expensive and quickest way to do this?

    For iPhoto:
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

If the Migration Assistant won't do it, move them over as you would any other folder; they're located in the Pictures and Music folders of your home folder by default. The iPhoto library needs to be transferred via a drive, partition, or disk image formatted as Mac OS Extended or through an AFP network share.

I assume you have different iTunes collections on different PC's, or on different logins on the same PC?  If that's the case then just enable "Home Sharing" in each iTunes using the SAME iTunes username and password as you enabled home sharing on the Apple TV with. The account used for home sharing is NOT the same as the account used to access the iTunes store, so as long as you use the same account (pick one, doesn't matter which) then you should see both of yor iTunes libraries on the Apple TV. Note - each iTunes has ti be running in order for the Apple TV to see the library.
Here's some details on how to do it:

How do I share music in iTunes between different iTunes account on the MacBook Pro?

If it's in a single iTunes library, it's already being shared. If it's in separate user accounts on the computer, move one library to the /Users/Shared/ folder, launch iTunes with the Option key held down, point it there, and import the music from the other library to it.

How do I delete photos and photo albums from my iPhone 4? The instructions given do not work. No "delete" symbol appears next to the album name when I press "Edit," and no trash can icon for me to click appears below most of the individual photos in the albums the computer just loaded on my new iPhone 4. When I synced the new phone the computer added these photo albums without permission from me. They are now taking up about 3 GB of memory on my phone. I would like very much to get rid of these photos from the phone. How do I do this?

To delete photos from your device
In iTunes, select the device icon in the Devices list on the left. Click the Photos tab in the resulting window.
    Choose "Sync photos from."
On a Mac, choose iPhoto or Aperture from the pop-up menu.
On a Windows PC, choose Photoshop Album or Photoshop Elements from the pop-up menu.
Choose "Selected albums" and deselect the albums or collections you want to delete.
    Click Apply.

I just bought a MBA and I need to move my photos and itunes to an external hard drive (from my old MacBook Pro) because they won't fit on the Air.  I got the photos moved fine and I followed an online tutorial to move the necessary files for itunes, but it didn't work.  The files copied fine, but when I tell iTunes on the Air to look at the external drive for the library, it doesn't find anything.  What I copied was the entire iTunes Media folder.  So, how do I move the necessary iTunes files from my old Pro to a external drive so I can access them from my new Air?  Whew!

iTunes- How to move the library to an EHD
After you move the library you need to open iTunes by first depressing the OPTION key then launching iTunes. You will be given a choice of which library to use. This can then be made a permanent change, if you wish, in the Advanced section of iTunes preferences.

  • HT204053 how do I share calendars and music between two ID's?

How do I share calendars and music between two Apple ID's?  We have a Mac Pro and two Iphones.  Currently we utilize one ID between the Iphones in order to sync the calendars and music.

You can privately share a calendar between devices using different iCloud IDs as explained here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mm6b1a8694.  Even if your devices use different IDs for iCloud you can continue to share the same ID for iTunes to share your music and other purchased media.  The ID you use on a device for iCloud does not need to be the same as the ID used for iCloud.

  • How can I access photos and videos saved to the iCloud?

How can I access photos and videos saved to the iCloud? I backed up my iphone to the Cloud but now the files are nowhere to be found.
I had to reset all content and settings in order to troubleshoot an issue. Before I did this, I backed up the iphone to icloud. When I reprogrammed the phone, I had to set it up as a new device and individually sync apps and other items from itunes. But by doing this, I somehow lost some videos and can't seem to find where they would have been saved/backed up. Can anyone offer any guidance?

You can't view photos and videos on icloud (except for shared photo stream pics).  iCloud merely sync photos between devices using the stream.  If you don't have photo stream turned on, then the only place photos in the camera roll are located are in a backup.  You would have to restore from the backup.  But be warned that many users have ended up losing their photos when performing a restore, for whatever reason.
What you should do in the future is always sync photos/videos to a computer for storage, don't leave them on a device or trust icloud to somehow store them.

How do I share photos to another icloud user via icloud?

You can't view your photos at icloud.com.
Photo Stream merely "pushes" your photos to your other devices (computer, Apple TV, ect). It pushes them for 30 days and has a 1,000 photo limit.
