How do we speed up downloads

When I use my browser to get on line the blue line starts, then pauses for up to a minute before it opens the location.  Then whem i select a download, it starts then stops, and the loading symbol appears ant it can take 60 to 120 sec for video to play.  then it is intermittent stopping and starting.

What Mac computer are you using, which system is installed, and what kind of internet connection do you have. Also important is the  amount of RAM and type of hard drive?

  • How can I Speed up downloads?

My downloading times have significantly slowed down over the past few days. What used to take no more than 20 minutes is now taking over 2 and a half hours. I have already disabled my add-ons and turned off my firewall. It isn't working.

You should run a bandwidth test to see if your provider is just having issues with unusually heavy traffic.
An example of a site hosting such a test is [http://speedtest.net/ http://speedtest.net/]
If you find there's nothing fixable after troubleshooting, you can try the DownThemAll extension. Your downloads will be faster, provided the server allows multiple connections (this is not the case for file hosts where you don't have a premium membership).

  • Speeding up download movies Itunes Store

How can I speed up downloading a rental movie of 4GB from Itunes Store (other than 10 hrs

    Hi Mario,
Thanks for your swift reply. The downloadspeed from the wifi I used is 1 MBit/s. For a 2hr HD Movie you say it should take 6 hrs at max. However my download took about 11 hours. When I read other comment on Google concerning this topic, lots of other people seem to run in the same problem. It doesn't make renting or buying movies from Itunes easy. What to do now?
    Yours kindly, Martin

It's a function of your iPhone's data speed, which is a function of your physical location and your carrier.  Talk to your carrier about increasing your data speed (probalby unlikely) or get dedicated internet to connect your computer to, i.e. cable, fiber, etc.

  • HT201272 downloading a movie to IPad taking 24hrs how can you speed it up?

Downloading a movie purchase from ITunes store to Ipad3 is taking 24 hours. How can you speed it up?

First, try resetting your device. Press and hold both the home button and the sleep/wake button for about 10 seconds, until the screen turns off. Ignore the slider that will appear. Release the buttons, then press and hold the sleep/wake button until the Apple logo appears. This is the equivalent of a reboot, and should not affect your data or apps.
If that doesn't help, try restoring your device from backups, and if that doesn't help, restore it to factory settings (ie, do not restore a backup). See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
If none of that helps, the issue is caused by some kind of hardware problem, and the device will need to be repaired or (more likely) replaced.

  • Java Applet IIOP Call-In with Release 3C--How do we speed updownload ti

We have successfully implemented a simple Java Applet that calls into
Forte Services via IIOP. However, the duration of the download time for
Applet and its required class files is UNACCEPTABLE in a typical
INTERNET environment where 28.8K modems and multiple hops around the net
are not uncommon. We dialed into our network at 28.8K (but no hopping),
and found that download times varied from 1.5 - 2.0 minutes. This is
unacceptable, even by internet standards. We have been using the
Visigenic Visibroker product as the ORB.
After doing some investigation, we've come up with several ideas to
    speed up download time:
    1. Figure out how to use the Visigenic components (CORBA/IIOP class
files) that come bundled with the latest version of the Netscape
Navigator browser, so that they don't have to be downloaded
    2. Figure out how to use ZIP files. Here's what I've read: "Since the
introduction of Netscape Navigator 3.0, you can specify an uncompressed
.zip file as an addition to the code base of your application. By
specifying a ZIP file, the browser will load your applet's classes from
a specified ZIP file before it searches the code base. This ZIP can
improve applet download time by reducing the number of HTTP connections
required to fetch applet code. As an added benefit, Netscape caches the
single ZIP file so that it will not reload your applet unless the date
of the ZIP file has changed."
    3. Figure out how to use JAR files. Here's what I've read: "JAR
stands for Java archive. It's a file format based on the popular ZIP
file format and is used for aggregating many files into one. Although
JAR can be used as a general archiving tool, the primary motivation for
its development was so that Java applets and their requisite components
can be downloaded to a browser in a single HTTP transaction, rather than
opening a new connection for each piece. This greatly improves the
speed with which an applet can be loaded onto a web page and begin
functioning. The JAR format also supports compression, which reduces the
size of the file and improves download time still further."
Unfortunately, we've been unable to get any of these approaches to work.
Has any one used these or other approaches to speed up applet download
time? Or, does anyone know of consulting firms that specialize in this
    sort of thing?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Are you updating through the phone or through iTunes on a pc/mac?
The time it takes to download the update depends on the speed of the internet connection you are using.

    I'm talking 10Mbps and 329kbs everytime!!
so in Win XP pro file sharing, pc1 copies file to pc2's shared folder way fast, but the pc2 takes forever to copy a file to pc1's shared foler.
    file size of 18MB.
How do I make it even out so both upload & download speed are about the same?
so make it upload & download speed are like 5Mbps
    I'd appreciate anyone's reply.

What is the wireless setting on the router? (B,G,N or mixed) Is the wireless NIC in PC2 compatible with this setting? Have you tried different settings?  B,G,N or mixed, and  No i haven't tried different setting.
the thing is PC2 is connected through a wireless client(bridge) to its ethernet port.  since the lan port is wol capable, i set up that way to wake her up when I need to wirelessly.
Do both PCs have the latest wireless NIC drivers? Yes, and the lastest firmware for the wireless client(bridge).
Have you tested the transfer with both PCs plugged into the router? If the same issue occurs, this would point to some other hardware problem.           You mean they both PCs joined same network?  if so, then yes.  If you meant they both in same lan by ethernet port then no.            I have another PC that pluged into router with cat5e, and it works flawlessly,  I plugged my laptop and tested with iperf and it work great.  then I connected my laptop by wireless, placed it close to the router, it also worked great.
wireless client maybe the source of the problem.
What other thing do you have, things I can try to troubleshooting this speed issue?

  • How do I speed up video clips?

I have iLife 08 but just downloaded iMovie HD 6 so I could do some more video editing features.
I have about 5 clips that total about 55 minutes of footage. I want to shrink this down to 55 seconds. The Video FX in iMovie don't really help me do that.
How can I speed up the video?

Do you mean get 55 minutes of real time footage to show in only 55 seconds?
One way that might work but it will take a fair bit of work in multiple repeated steps.
Select all the footage on the timeline and then use the Turtle/Rabbit slider to speed it all up to the maximum speed allowed. This of course won't be any where close to 55 seconds.
BUT... export your movie back out to video tape or to a full quality DV format quicktime file. This speeded up version becomes "normal" time. Now reimport to iMovies. Since this is now normal speed as far as iMovie is concerned, you can again use the slider to speed the whole thing up to the max.
Now just repeat as often as needed to get it as fast as you want. Export back out, reimport, adjust speed, export, import, adjust, etc.

  • HT4059 how to stop an iPad download into iTunes for an iTouch?

Unknowingly tried to download a book but it was for iPad only and I have an iTouch. Now everytime I open iTunes it starts to download but can nver finish as the time remaining is 40 hours! How can I stop the download and delete the book?
    thanks!

I think the question isn't about purchasing but actually downloading. For example if you see that there is an update available and you start to download, lose internet connection, the application will essentially be locked from use until the update finishes.
I ran into this problem on holiday where I tried to update Camera Awesome but the internet was painfully slow (56k or less speeds). The application started to download but was taking literally hours to complete. In the meantime I couldn't access any of the photos within that application or use it for new pictures.
In short, any application that is being downloaded, installed, etc will be unavailable until that process completes.
