I have a 3D render I'm compositing in AE CS3.
Everything is rendered as image sequences, and I have an alpha pass. How do I apply it to my master layer?

I have some glass plate black and white negatives that I would like to scan into my Mac and then invert the images to generate the photo. I have Aperture installed already but I can't seem to just have it invert the scanned image. Is there another way to do this with just the photos? William answered this already, but since I made a screenshot, I don't want to waste it:
Set the "Range" to "Normal" before you drag the control points on the RGB curve up and down. That is easier,when inverting the curve. It tends to wiggle, and "Normal" will constrain it to the range you want.
After you defined this adjustment for one of your scans, lift and stamp it to the other scans or save it as an effect from the "Effects" panel.
Then you only have to adjust the curves once.

Please clarify your "Elements 12". Is that as in Photoshop Elements 12 (photo editor) or Premiere Elements 12 (video editor). And, on what computer operating system is the program running?

How do I get a black and white photo in Photoshop Elements 11?

I have a very old version of Photoshop, release 6 I believe. In that release, I am able to use enhance/brightness and contrast, and when I slide the contrast to 100%, I get a pure black and white image of my photo. I Photoshop 11, which I just purchased today, I am unable to get a pure black and white image, only grayscale. I cut pictures out of wood, and it's fundamentally necessary that I can contrast pictures into pure black and white. How do I do that in Photoshop 11? The first screenshot is what I need in Photoshop 11, the second screen shot is the limitation I'm seeing in Photoshop 11. How do I get a black and white photo??

There was a change made a few versions ago where Brightness and Contrast were improved so that they did not clip values so quickly. This was intended to improve how Brightness and Contrast worked for photographs, but it makes it work less well for purposes such as channel manipulations or printmaking.
In Photoshop there is a Legacy check box in Brightness/Contrast to make it work the "old" way when that is desired. It looks like that check box isn't in Photoshop Elements, which is what you're actually using. I'm not sure if there is a way to get the Legacy behavior in Elements, so you'll want to ask over in the Photoshop Elements forum.

One way is to use Select>Color Range
Make a new Color Fill Layer>White
(Layer>New Fill Layer>Solid Color)
Put a new color fill layer below>black
Just invert the layer mask on the top fill layer for the opposite effect.

First, as print dialog box functions vary with the Mac OS version, we need to know what version of the Mac OS you have. "iOS 5.0.1" in your profile is not a computer OS but rather for iDevices. Do "About this Mac" from the Apple menu to see what version you really have. It should be 10.something
Second: control of the type of printing is int eh hands of the printer software, Please post the both the make and model of printer you are using.

At this time there is not an option or a default to set black and white only from the front panel of the printer. Some applications may give you settings in the Application itself for color or black and white but that would be the only place to change the color of the document/photo for your print jobs.

I have just updated from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. With Snow Leopard, and an HP Deskjet 5740 printer, I could choose to print in draft or best quality, black and white only or in full colour, and had various other options. Now I am not offered these options in the print dialogue: the printer always prints in colour and I cannot choose whether to print in best or draft quality.
