How do you change the address bar into showing the key symbol, when it only shows the lock symbol?

I want to save my user data to my google mail account.
The first time I typed them in, the password dialogue box appeard, but I clicked on something else so it disappeard and since then never showed again on the google mail paige. (It works perfectly normal on other paiges)
The mozilla support site said to click on the key symbol in the adress bar, but there is no key symbol only a lock symbol. On other websites both are shown but not on the google mail website.
What do I do to open the password dialogue box again? Is there another way than to click on the key symbol?
I use mozilla firefox 20.0 on windows 7.

When you go to a website and enter a username and password that haven't been saved, Firefox will ask if you want them remembered. This question appears in an arrow panel connected to the key icon on the address bar.
If you click on other things, or switch tabs, then the question will disappear. But as long as you remain on the same web page, the key icon will remain visible so you can bring it up again manually.

• Typing a phrase in the Address Bar of Firefox 3.6 used to lead me to the relevant website, but this doesn't happen in FF4, even though keyword.enabled value is set to true in the config page. Why doesn this happen?

In the about:config page the keyword.enabled value is set to "true". And the keyword.URL value is set to "default". When I type a phrase in the Address Bar, a page with a Yahoo! search result opens unlike intuitively loading the relevant page using Google. Why is this happening?

To use the Google's browse by name feature as used in Firefox 3.6, set keyword.URL to this link:
http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=

• How can I change my address bar so it doesn't give me search options?

Recently, I installed a toolbar called Freecorder because I needed to record the audio for something on the internet. Installing this thing also installed some search engine and it changed the default search to something else. I changed it back in about:config, but now when I go to my address bar, I can no longer see most of my saved URLs. I have to click several times to get the drop down box, and when I do, it looks like this: http://i1338.photobucket.com/albums/o698/admiralhip/BRlwXCLCYAEAQjk_zps565a01cd.png
The icons for different websites are next to those weird URLs, and if I click on one it will bring me to the site that the icon is for. I was hoping that someone could tell me what to do to fix this without completely uninstalling firefox or resetting everything to factory default. Thanks.

You may need to reset/modify some prefs that have been changed.
You can do a search in the <b>about:config</b> page.<br />
See also the setting in Options > Privacy for the location bar.
You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).

• How do you change IP address...

I have a Samsung printer which is connected to the network via an ethernet cord to my WRT150N.  However, the printer says IP conflict, and I finally figured out why the printer is not showing up on the other computers, the IP address from the printer itself is192.168.1.104.  However, the router has the printer listed at 192.168.1.103  So my question is how to do I go about changing the IP address, either in the printer or the router.  The 192.168.1.104 is already listed in the router as an IP address for my daughter's iTouch.  Thanks so much for any help you can provide...
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Well, good that you have solved it by now.
192.168.1.1 is the IP address of the router. http://192.168.1.1/ is the web interface of the router. The router is just like a small computer. As it has no keyboard and no display you'll need another way to configure it. For this, the router runs a small web server which you can conveniently access on http://192.168.1.1/ It is password protected. You don't have to enter any user name. The default password is "admin". But you should change that to protect your router from unauthorized changes.
If you haven't changed the password yet, you can do so on the "Administration" page in the web interface. Enter your new good password twice and click on "Save Settings". And another note because some people get confused on this: don't get confused by the number of "dots" you'll see in the password field after the change. The number of dots in the field when you go to the Administration page or after you change the settings has nothing to do with the number of letters in your actual password...

• In previous versions, I could type a partial address in the address bar -- say, nytimes or amazon -- and it would go to the correct site after I hit enter. With Firefox 6, it just goes to Google. How do I get that older, more efficient function back?

After typing the partial address, I do get a dropdown that usually includes the correct, full address in the first listing. Also, the sites are all in my bookmarks folder.

You can also do this without an extension by modifying a pref on the <b>about:config</b> page.
You can modify the pref <b>keyword.URL</b> on the <b>about:config</b> page to use a Google Lucky search.
* http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keyword.URL
* http://kb.mozillazine.org/Location_Bar_search
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />

• How to remove history in the location bar? Deleting history and then using "History" only in the settings for the location bar does not remove old history.

I want to remove old History in the Location bar.
I am using Firefox 3.6.13.
"Clear recent history" does not remove the old History in the Location bar. And changing the setting to only show "History" does also not remove the old history.
Pressing "Delete" on single lines when opening the list by clicking the arrow to the right in the location bar, remove the entries temporary. But next time you type in the location bar, the same suggestions are there.

See:
* Clearing Location bar history
* Cannot clear Location bar history
Entries in the location bar drop down list with a yellow (blue on Mac) star at the right end are bookmarks.<br />
You can remove such a bookmarked item that shows in the list if you open that url in a tab and click the yellow star in the location bar.<br />
This will open the "Edit This Bookmark" dialog and you can click the Remove button to remove the bookmark if you want to remove such a bookmarked entry.

• To solve another problem, I need to reset my user agent. But when I type about:config in the address bar, all I get is a Firefox window that has the text "config" on the page and nothing else. No text or fields or ANYTHING. What can i do short of unins

Windows XP

Make sure that you type about:config in one word and without any spaces in the location bar.

• When I type on the address bar "w" it opens a download page with only a few sites. Some of the sites I would like to delete. How do I do this?

I highlight the page and hit delete. It will go away at that moment but as soon as I type "w" on a new search it will pull the download page with the supposed to be deleted address.

Do those websites have a yellow star at the far right?
If they have a yellow star then that are bookmarks. You can open such a bookmark in a tab and click the yellow star to open the "Edit This Bookmark" dialog and click the Remove button.

• How do I restore the address bar at the top of my window in firefox on a mac?

My kids were messing with my computer and must have pushed something and everything disappeared. I need to know how to put an address bar (back button, refresh, ect) back up into the top of my window. Part of the problem is that my computer screen is cracked and I can't see anything in my menu easily. A command that would restore the address bar would help. Thanks.

Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
*Open the Customize window to set which toolbar items to display
**View > Toolbars > Customize
*Check that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
*If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette in the customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
*If missing items are in the toolbar palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
*If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up

• Why is it that now, when I click on a link for a website I've saved, it does NOT show the URL in the address bar? I can't drag it to an email to share the link.

Why is it that in these newer versions of Firefox (I have 21.0), when I open a link that I've saved, it does NOT display the URL in the address bar any more?
I can't drag and drop the link into an email, and I can't see the actual web address I'm connected to for reference OR for security purposes. Why was this changed?
It becomes necessary to reveal the properties of the URL link I've saved, using the Windows "Properties", then copying and pasting the URL into the Firefox address bar, before I can do anything with it.

No changes have been made and no problem with extensions has interfered with the URL appearing in Firefox before. Only with the last few new versions of Firefox has this cropped up. Also, the link opens correctly - it just doesn't display the URL in the address bar, instead it just reads (in gray) "Search or enter address." How could another extension interfere if Firefox is the sole program associated with .htm, .html files?

• Url does not show up in address bar...and when i type in a search box, the cursor jumps up to the address bar automatically

I'm not sure what happened. However, I can never see the URL in the address bar anymore.
I go from page to page, and the URL shows only for a split second, then disappers.
All the address bar says is "Search or enter address"
I copy and paste a lot of URL links for work, so this makes it very painful and a hassle now.
Where now i need to go back, right click on a link, and do "copy link location".
Where as i used to just go up to the address bar and copy the URL.
Also, I notice now when I start typing on certain search boxes.
The cursor automatically jumps to the URL address bar as soon as I start typing. Which is really annoying.
It will only do it once it seems....but its annoying when i try to type a search...only to see that i've been typing in the URL address box cus it jumped up there.
PLEASE HELP!!!!

Try some basic troubleshooting.
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
*In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on Help (or click on Help in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".<br>

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

How do you change to landscape in this crazy Pages?

Hi teacher, before writing that the app is crazy, would be a good idea to look at Pages User Guide.
Opening this resource and search for the keyword "orientation" brings as first response an entry in the TOC telling us that what you wanted to achieve is described in page #43.
One more time it's not the app which is crazy but maybe it's the user.
