  • How do I change the administrative password on my computer since I have bought it from someone else?

I bought this macbook from someone else and he cannot remember the password for the administrative account that im currently on. I cant do anything technical with the computer since I do not have this password. What do i do?

Then you'll need to buy an install disk. I called Apple Customer Support (1- (800) 767-2775) to check on how much they charge for the gray restore disks that originally came with the MacBook and was quoted $16 dollars per disk plus S & H. Which would be $32 plus shipping for the two disks. Just give them the serial number of your MacBook and they'll know which ones you need. With the original disks you also get the iLife that was current when your MacBook was bought included on the #2 disk.
The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion or Mountain Lion. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
With the Snow Leopard disk you have to buy iLife separately for the latest iLife '11.  You can get the iLife ’11 DVD which will run on 10.6 or above on eBay fairly cheap. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=apple+ilife+11&LH_Auction=1&LH_BIN=1&_sop=1 2&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trkparms=72%253A1234%257C66%253A2%257C65%253A12%257C39%25 3A1&LH_PrefLoc=1&_sc=1&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l2632.R2&_nkw=apple+ilife+11&_sacat =18793

    Robert:
May I strongly urge you to get a set of installer CDs. They will come in handy as you need them for much more than just installing the OS. From time to time, e.g. you may need to boot from the installer disk to Repair Disk (you can Repair Disk Permissions from Disk Utility on the HDD, but to Repair Disk, you must boot from a different volume). And if you had installer CDs changing the password and creating a new Admin Account would be a breeze.
You can get universal installer disks at applerescue. Another option in your situation is to do a complete re-install. That will not only enable you to create your own admin account, but it will automatically change the computer short name. However, for that you need installer disks.
Meanwhile, <a href=""http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=121786&tstart=0>here is another article that should help.
    Good luck.

  • How can I change the administrator name?

I'm getting ready to sell my old I-mac. How do I change the administrator name or delete it?

Follow these instructions step by step to prepare a Mac for sale:
Step One - Back up your data:
           A. If you have any Virtual PCs shut them down. They cannot be in their "fast saved" state. They must be shut down from inside Windows.
           B. Clone to an external drive using using Carbon Copy Cloner.
              1. Open Carbon Copy Cloner.
              2. Select the Source volume from the Select a source drop down menu on the left side.
              3. Select the Destination volume from the Select a destination drop down menu on the right
                  side.
              4. Click on the Clone button. If you are prompted about creating a clone of the Recovery HD be
                  sure to opt for that.
Destination means a freshly erased external backup drive. Source means the internal
                   startup drive.
Step Two - Prepare the machine for the new buyer:
              1. De-authorize the computer in iTunes! De-authorize both iTunes and Audible accounts.
2, Remove any Open Firmware passwords or Firmware passwords.
              3. Turn the brightness full up and volume nearly so.
              4. Turn off File Vault, if enabled.
              5. Disable iCloud, if enabled: See.What to do with iCloud before selling your computer
Step Three - Install a fresh OS:
         A. Snow Leopard and earlier versions of OS X
              1. Insert the original OS X install CD/DVD that came with your computer.
              2. Restart the computer while holding down the C key to boot from the CD/DVD.
              3. Select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu; repartition and reformat the internal hard drive.
Optionally, click on the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
              4. Install OS X.
              5. Upon completion DO NOT restart the computer.
              6. Shutdown the computer.
         B. Lion and Mountain Lion (if pre-installed on the computer at purchase*)
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because
it is three times faster than wireless.
              1. Restart the computer while holding down the COMMAND and R keys until the Mac OS X
                  Utilities window appears.
              2. Select Disk Utility from the Mac OS X Utilities window and click on the Continue button.
              3. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click
on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
              4. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on the Security button
and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
              5. Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
              6. Quit DU and return to the Mac OS X Utilities window.
              7. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
              8. Upon completion shutdown the computer.
*If your computer came with Lion or Mountain Lion pre-installed then you are entitled to transfer your license once. If you If your computer came with Lion or Mountain Lion pre-installed then you are entitled to transfer your license once. If you purchased Lion or Mountain Lion from the App Store then you cannot transfer your license to another party. In the case of the latter you should install the original version of OS X that came with your computer. If this is not possible then simply erase the drive. You need to repartition the hard drive as well as reformat it; this will assure that the Recovery HD partition is removed. See Step Three above. You may verify these requirements by reviewing your OS X Software License.

  • Can I change the administrator password on Snow Leopard using Tiger discs

Hi, I had a fault with my mac and the o/s had to be reinstalled. The shop put Snow Leopard on my mac and I changed the password which I later forgot. My mac instructed me to input the install discs etc but I only have my original Tiger Install discs. I rang the shop but they say they are not allowed to change the password but that I can do it with my old discs.
I tried to reset it but it wouldn't work and on only the first occasion when I restarted with the disc and by pressing C on reboot etc did it launch into the 'select language' etc. Now every time I try, it just starts normally.
Is there any way I can change the administrator password on Snow Leopard using my Tiger discs? thanks

Why didn't the "shop" give you the Snow Leopard system discs? You need those to troubleshoot. Especially if you need to use Apple's Hardware Test. Strange.

  • How do I change the network password without a base station?

I do not have an airport base station. My roommate has a PC connected to a router via ethernet and I created a wireless network on the same router via airport. Now I've hopelessly forgotten the password and I can't figure out how to reset it or change it or whatever! Can anyone help me, please? I've searched the forums and have only found answers for those folks with the fancy airport base stations.

    Hi,
The WLAN password could only be change on the router page you found and in order to get there, you need the administrator password.
If you never modify it, you could give a try by entering "Administrator" and leaving password blank which is usually the factory setting. If this not work, it will be necessary to reset your router to its factory setting.
I personnally do not know the Belkin routers. But here is the link to get your router manual:

  • How do I change the admin password in SJSWS 7.0?

I've googled this, searched the forums, read the manual, but I haven't found anything that explained how to change the admin password for SJSWS 7.0. So, right now I'm stuck with "adminadmin" as the password, which I think is the default since I don't remember specifying that during install. Clearly I can't use this in production with the default admin password... sorry if this is a rtfm question, but I really didn't see anything in the manual about changing the admin password. Thanks!

You could use the following CLI command:-
    wadm> set-admin-prop --set-password
    More information about the command:-
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-3283/set-admin-prop-1?a=view
You could also use Administration console-
    - Login to the Administration Console and click on the Nodes tab
    - In the Nodes page, click on the Administration Server link within the Nodes table
    - Go to "Administration Server Preferences" section in the General page and change the password

  • How can I change the User Password expiry date

    Hi,
I want to know how can I change the password expiration date of my user without changing his password. For eg:-
User password expires on 12th May 2007. I want to extend to 12th Jun 2007. Is there any option in Oracle.
    Alter User <USERNAME> password expire .....<to new date>;

The command is not alter user set expire...
You should modify the user's profile, and set a timeframe:
    ALTER PROFILE DEFAULT LIMIT
    PASSWORD_LIFE_TIME = num_of_days;
This way your password will be valid from the last time it was changed and for the time frame previously defined.
