How do you change the dpi in Illustrator and save as pdf?

I've created a file in Illustrator cs4 that I need to change the 350 dpi of and to save as a pdf before having it sent out to be printed. I've found ways to change the ppi...but will that do the same thing as changing the dpi? Any advice would be much appreciated!

This might explain it
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/370714
The device has the dpi not the file itself the file has a ppi resolution the screens are prepared in lpi.
The above explains it the highest resolution I have ever been asked for was 350 ppi for offset printing 300ppi is normal.
In other word you do not control the dpi as Steve mentions.

How do you change the dpi settings in iPhoto

Short answer: the dpi is set when you decide what size you're printing at.
Long Answer: Dpi means nothing in the digital world of your computer. There are no "inches" to have "dots per..." Size is measured in pixels. That's the same on your camera. It doesn't take 10 x 8 or 6 x 4 shots. It takes shots measured in megapixels. For instance 4,000 x 3,000 is a 12 megapixel camera.
Using that example, that shot from that camera has 12 million pixels. So that's how many "Dots" there are. To decide the ratio of dots per inch, you now need to decide the "inches" part. And that's printing.  Print at 10 x 8 and the dpi will be 4,000/10 or about 400 dpi. At 6 x 4 then it's 4,000/6 or 660 dpi. Work the other way: Print at 300 dpi and the resulting image will be about 13 inches on the longer side.
So, your photo as a fixed number of pixels. Changing the dimensions of the print will vary the dpi, changing the dpi will vary the dimensions of the print.

  • How do you change the dpi on photos?

I am writing a book and inserting old photos into it.   These photos were scanned by people and sent by e-mail.   I need to change the dpi on the photos to 300 dpi for printing purposes.   I have just bought Lightroom, so I don't know a lot yet.   But, my first project is changing the dpi of these photos and inserting them into my book.   Thank you.

Actually, you don't need to change the resolution (which is PPI, not DPI), and anyway, you can't do this unnecessary thing in Lightroom. You do need to have enough pixels in the image to print at the desired size. So, for example, if the book calls for a 4x6 space to be filled with your photo, then you would need a photo that is 1200x1800 pixels (or larger). If your book requires the photos outside of Lightroom, then you would Export the photo (if necessary, enlarged) to the desired number of pixels, as in the example.
I have just bought Lightroom, so I don't know a lot yet.   But, my first project is changing the dpi of these photos and inserting them into my book.
So based on the fact that this is an unnecessary task, and that Lightroom won't do this anyway, your first project is now completed.

  • How do you change the default return email when distributing a PDF form

    Hello everyone,
I am trying to distrube a pdf form as a customer survey to various client/contact emails.  As a test, I chose to distribute the form, filled in the form distribution information and I send the form to myself. However, when I filled it out and chose 'submit form' it prompted me with the return email address that I know is incorrect and want to change.
As the author of the form, I need to change the default return email address, but there is no option to do so when I choose to distribute the pdf form  or any new form that I create (only prompted me the very first time I chose to distribute a form).
Does anyone know how to change the return email address and information for form distribution?  Can someone please help me with this?
    Thank you very much!
    -Ryan

The email address that it uses it what is set in the Identity user preference: Edit > Preferences > Identity > Email Address
so change it there before you distribute.

  • How do I change the dpi in illustrator?

I created an image in illustrator and saved it as a jpeg. When I took it to print in the shop they told me the image had the wrong dpi (72). How can I change this so that I can print the image?
Thanks for your help in advance.

When you save the file as .jpg there is a dialog that opens that allows you
to set the resolution. 72 is the (old) standard for internet images because
older monitors worked at 72hz and pixels were scanned 1/1 at that rate.
With today's falt screen monitors, scan rate is a thing of the past so only
pixel count size is relevant fro web display. For print, simply set the dpi
to high (300) or more (custom).
Also, you'll need to discus with the print shop what formats thay like to
use best. .jpg is not often used for print, CMYK .tiff is used more often
    along with .pdf production ready.

  • How do you change the dpi of a pdf?

I'm really confused as to how to change my dpi to 300. I'm not even really sure how I can check what it is?
    Thanks!

The question is very vague, perhaps a little wrong of way to ask on how to do this way. But, there are different PDF settings, depending on specific output you want it to be outputted as PDF file.
Frank is correct about imbedded graphic (or photo files) with specific DPI setting, then import it into PDF file.
However, you didn't say which PDF generator you are outputting it to from? Plus, you didn't say what kind of PDF output you want it to be set up? So I don't know what to say unless I know the specific information you are looking for. Because PDF topic is a very broad topic. As PDF technology evolves, so is its option varies.
    Cheers, Brian

  • How do you change the resolution of Illustrator CC?

I don't mean the resolution of the images but the resolution of the application itself. I just launched Illustrator CC on this laptop for the first time and it defaulted to a resolution much smaller than the default resolution for my laptop.
Please let me know if anyone knows how to fix this.

I don't think so. it's just those 150% or 200% factors. see this thread for more discussion and a staff response:
Illustrator CC 2014 interface size too big.

  • How do you improve the speed of processing and printing of PDF from CAD in indesign?

I work for an engineering consultancy company and for a long while I have suffered with using PDFs files generated from AutoCAD when placed within an InDesign report. There are three issues that arise:
The files take a long time to process when preparing the InDesign report. (This is mainly in high quality preview mode)
The files take a long time to export to PDF
(The most annoying one) The files take a long time to process and print when sent from the PDF to the colour laser printer. So much so, a single page from InDesign that contains a PDF generated from CAD can take up to 15 mins to print.
I have tried converting the PDFs to jpegs prior to insertion into the InDesign document, but the quality and colour is dramatically reduced thus them useless. Is there any pre processing on the PDFs generated from CAD that I can do to reduce the impact that it has within InDesign and in the post processing?
We also get missing font warnings that arise from the inserted PDFs from CAD that may or may not be an issue. Your advice here would also be appreciated.
I would be the first to admit that I am not the most advanced user of InDesign though I am sure that my workflow could be improved to alleviate the situation.
    Your assistance would be appreciated!

    Thanks for your quick response.
I have tried both options you have recommended, but unfortunately the file size doesn't seem to be the issue. Most of our CAD files (except for when they contain raster backgrounds) are around 0.5-2Mb which isn't massive compared to some jpegs. The PDF optimization process does make a small difference to the file size but only in the region of perhaps 5% reduction.
If it helps the most awkward file I am using at the moment has this audit result, pre-optimization. This is typical of the CAD files produced by AutoCAD. As you can see the content streams take up the highest percentage that doesn't reduce that much even when the optimizer has all options engaged.
    What do you think?

  • How do you change the pink highlight for the present day in calendar when in week view

How do you change the pink highlight for the present day in calendar when in week view - OSX Maverick

the current day was light blue in ical in 10.6 but with plenty of contrast, but I recently made the bigger leap all the way to calendar in 10.9. the choice of color is terrible for reasons such as Spile1962 puts below, but also not having any way to tweak it is terrible. I'm on a bran d new imac and can barely see a difference and frankly, while I appreciate the subtlety, I still forget to look for the darker bar across the top of the current week and day. we should be able to adjust weekend and current day bg colors.
I went into the app's package contents in hopes that they were using a tiff/png file that I could tweak on my own but couldn't find anything for them. all the icons are there, as are the bg sets for all the little pop-ups and things, but I couldn't even find a reference to a hex color in the plist file.
send apple feedback. I just did myself, except that Calendar hasn't made the list (yet?), only iCal up to version 4.x, and Messages is still only iChat for feedback, and some others are old as well. apparently after steve died, apple's attention to these details just died with him. it's been that long since those other apps should have been relevant on their site.

How do you changed the color of events on ICal? I was able to do this when I utilized ICal on the Snow Leopard system but can no longer do this with Lion.
I know that I can select the Calanders list, but when I create a new "Calander" it doesn't allow me to choose a color and it doesn't show up in my list when working within an event.
    Thanks!

    Phoebe,
Right-click on the new calendar and select "Get Info."
