How do you change the resolution of a Photo?

In iPhoto, how to you reduce the resolution of a photo in order to reduce the file size? This makes it easier to email because of the smaller file size?

Let's say I have a photo with a resolution of of 3264 x 2448 pixels.
Tat's not a measurement of resolution, that's the dimensions (length x breadth) of the photo, expressed in pixels.
Resolution is a vague term most used to describe the density of pixels - i.e the pixels per inch.
1) I want to edit it and reduce the resolution to 1024 x 768 pixels.
No, you want to reduce the dimensions of the image to 1024 x 768
2) Do this within iPhoto without using the export feature thereby keeping the edited photo in iPhoto?
You can't. It can only be done on export. Why? When you edit a photo iPhoto preserves the original and makes a copy of the file containing the edit. As most people reduce the dimensions, file size or resolution for a specific purpose (to upload it for instance), it's thought best to export it, upload it nd then trash it.
Of course, you can simply import the export back in, if you have a burning need of it in iPhoto.

and insists that I use mp4 because it works with all formats; iphone, android, pc and mac.
I tried doubling the size of the file and it worked but was SOoooooo big that it blew the page out so I suspect that I
have to resize the file.

1. As far as HTML5 support, if they have a browser made within the last few years (I think since about 2009), it supports html5. The page I linked to gives the versions where all of the major browsers started supporting the <video> tag.
2. The "your browser does not support..." text is what appears on screen when a viewer uses a browser that doesn't support HTML5 (like IE8).
If you still plan to support the old non-html5 browsers, the best thing to do is to place a fallback video using the old <object><embed> method in that "your browser does not support" location. That way, if they don't have an html5 compatible browser, the fallback video will play using whatever plug-in they have installed to deal with it. It would look like this...

TextEdit is not a very sophisticated program. As far as I know, there's no way to resize an image on the fly in TextEdit, so you'll have to follow Shotgun00's advice.
I would advise not using TextEdit for anything real. Buy yourself a copy of Pages from the App Store instead, you'll be much happier with its capabilities if you intend to create complex documents containing images and text.

I don't mean the resolution of the images but the resolution of the application itself. I just launched Illustrator CC on this laptop for the first time and it defaulted to a resolution much smaller than the default resolution for my laptop.

How do I change the resolution of my photos on my iBookG4?

I have iPhoto 6 and post things regularly on craigslist. With my older camera I never had any problems uploading photos to the web. Now, with my new 6 megapixel camera, CL won't always take the photos all at once. Is there a way to downsize the pixels within each photo so that posting on CL is easy again? This is driving me nuts. It used to take 3 minutes to post an ad and less than a minute to load the photos. Now it takes on average 10 minutes per ad because I can only load 1 photo at a time, and each one takes forever to load. iPhoto won't change resolution, just size of photo. If iPhoto6 won't manipulate resolution for me, is there a good free software compatible with my iBookG4 that will? Thanks.

Try File -> Export in the dialogue you can specify the original or a different size that you select. A little trial and error will help you find the correct one.

I volunteer for an animal rescue organization, and I need to post some digital photos I took of some kittens I am fostering on petfinder.org as soon as possible. The photos I have are too large for the website to handle - I need to reduce the file size before they will accept them. How do I do this? I need to find out as quickly as I can so I can get these little guys posted and work on finding them homes. Any help would be extremely appreciated! (I know I have an old iPhoto program - should I be embarrassed? - and an old computer ... wish I had better equipment, believe me!)

the fastes and easiest way to reduce the size (pixels) is to go to your:
iPhoto Menu > Share > Email > you should choose small or medium... and mail it to another account, open email, copy to desktop and you've got a reduced size of photo that will work nicely on most websites... you'll notice that directly below this window, you will see how large or small the file has gotten "Estimated Size", this refers to the same number of 500 in your post...
You can actually do it another way, is to > Share > Export > choose "Scale No Larger Than:", here you need to ask your webmaster what size is preferred... fill in and export to your desktop...
Otherwise, you would need to use an image edting software to "Optimize" image... Personally, I would use the email function... Best wishes on your project, Rick

Here is the information that you should follow when using DAQ with a Macintosh. I'm not sure whether you are using LabVIEW or some other programming language, so the two main references that you should refer to are the NI-DAQ Software Reference Manual for Macintosh and the LabVIEW Data Acquisition VI Reference Manual. Both of these resources are excellent sources of information and will explain to you anything you need to know about programming DAQ on a Macintosh.
The NI-DAQ Software Reference Manual for Macintosh can tell you how to configure things such as Analog Input Mode (differential, RSE, NRSE), Range, Polarity, Analog Output Range, P
olarity, Voltage Source, etc. Even reading just the first chapters of either of the above mentioned reference manuals should have you on your way.

Do you mean you want it saved with the resolution set to something other than 72 dpi when the capture is made, or do you mean you want your capture saved at a higher resolution than the captured area?
1) If the first, there are ways to change the default capture format .png to something else, such as .jpg, .tif and a few others, but as far as I know, the resolution will always be 72 dpi. You can use Preview to change the resolution of the captured image under Tools > Adjust Size. You will get this:
If your intention is to set the resolution for professional printing defaults, then change the resolution to 300. Turn off Resample image to prevent the image from actually having more pixels added. The resolution will simply be reset from 72 to 300 dpi without changing the actual number of pixels in the image. It will also print a lot smaller since the output device will now use 300 pixels per linear inch instead of 72.
Leave Resample image on if you need to maintain the dimensions. Be aware however that scaling the image (resampling) will add a lot more pixels to the image than are there to maintain size. Expect the image to get very soft and pixelated looking when adding 417% more data to the image than it currently has.
2) If you mean you want the OS to actually save the captured area as a high resolution image at size, that can't happen. A capture is a 1:1 grab of the display buffer. It can only capture what's there. So if you capture a 700 pixel x 500 pixel area, that's all the bigger it can be without scaling it afterwards.

If, however, you want to change the size of the display of the menubar, meaning make the icons and text larger, there is no way to do that directly other than to change the resolution of the screen.
You can change the as-viewed size of that temporarily by using either -
• Mouse zoom - if you have a Magic Mouse (Apple wireless mouse), hold down the Control key and use the scroll up and scroll down finger gestures on the mouse.
• Zoom - go to System Preferences > Universal Access > Seeing and turn on Zoom. You can also use the noted keyboard shortcut to enable/disable this Zoom feature.

Also, if you have iCloud, you will probably also want to change the iCloud account on the phone to be yours:
Settings>iCloud - if Account is not yours, go to the bottom and Delete Account. Then sign back on with your iCloud account info.
