How do you combine videos from different cameras

Hi there,
I would like to be able to combine video clips taken of the same event with different cameras in such a way that they all share the same audio.
I have recorded my daughter's entire theater play with a camera in the back of the hall connected directly to the theater's audio equipment. Thus, I have the entire audio in high quality in one huge clip. Then I and a couple of other parents have recorded the play with a number of additional cameras. I would now like to put together a project with video clips from the other cameras using the audio of the first. Obviously, the timing is critical here.
How can I replace part of just the video of a clip with the video of another clip without affecting the audio and making sure that the part that I replace is of the exact same length as the part I insert? How can I then finetune the location of the replacing part so that it fits to the audio?
Thank you very much for any help you can provide.
Best regards,
Marcus

Hi AppleMan,
this is also a very helpful hint, thanks!
This has been quite an experience and wasn't as easy as I had hoped. May I add two additional hints in the hopes that someone else will find them useful:
* When taping an event with several cameras make sure that all cameras are set to the same time. This makes iMovie sort them in roughly the right order and makes it much easier to find the clips you want.
* When trying to overlay one short clip over another longer one (using the audio of the longer clip) it is helpful to have several extra frames on the left and right of the clip. With the "Trim" menu item one can then more precisely determine exactly which part of the clip to insert. With the Shift-Arrow Keys one can then easily shift the entire clip by individual frames without changing the length of the clip.
Best regards,
Marcus

  • How do you combine footage from multiple cameras in Premiere Pro?

I am making a documentary using footage from multiple cameras-- including DSLRS, a Panasonic HP170, and some other cameras.
All footage is shot in 1080p and same frame rate but when I upload all the footage, the footage from the DSLRs looks choppy.
What is the most efficient way to combine this footage and edit it together?

  • How do you download video from sony camcorder to imovie

how do you download video from sony camcorder to imovie.

First open up Imovie. Then plug the camcorder into the USB port. The computer will search for the camera. It will give a snapshot of what is on there. You can just click on CHECK ALL. It will begin to import. It will also tell you how long it will take. Once it is imported, click DONE. THEN, this is important, drag the snapshots into IMovie on the top to create a new project. You can also click on New Project and name it. When all the pics are in the movie, it will be saved. You can then edit it any way you want. I've done this many times on a Mac. My problem is the internal memory. I have to find out how to get the internal memory videos into my computer. Am currently researching it. BTW, importing from the memory stick is what I did above. Hope this helps.

    Hi, Murf2.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
The process for importing videos is the same for photos.  This article will walk you through the process if you are unfamiliar.

  • How do i import video from JVC cam corder to my iMac?

Im trying ti import videos from my JVC GR D240 EK camcorder. When i plug the usb in it doesnt even recognaise it. i have tried to open it in Imovie but had no luck?

This is a mini-DV format camcorder. It will work with your Mac, but you need a Mac with a Firewire  port, and you need a Firewire Cable.
Look in /About This Mac/More Info.../System Report/Hardware/Firewire to see if your Mac has Firewire and if so which type it has.
Older Macs will have a Firewire 400 port. You need a 6 pin to 4 pin Firewire Cable.

More recent Macs may have a Firewire 800 port. You need a 4 pin to 9 pin Firewire Cable.
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=103&cp_id=10301&cs_id=1030104 &p_id=3541&seq=1&format=2
Some recent MacBooks are USB only. In this case you cannot import from the camera.
Some recent iMacs and MacBook Pros have Thunderbolt but not Firewire. In this case you need a 4 pin to 9 pin Firewire Cable and an Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire Adapter.

  • How do you move videos from video app into camera roll?

I need to use a video in a Keynote presentation. How do I move a video from the Videos app into the Camera Roll so I can access it in Keynote?

I don't think that you can do it directly on the iPad, you will need to sync it to the Photos app from your computer's iTunes i.e. if you are syncing photos from your computer then copy it into one of those photo folders, make sure that 'include videos' is ticked on the Photos tab, and re-sync (or if you have the camera connection kit then you can use, for example, an SD card and copy it via that).
If it's an iTunes purchased video then it possibly won't sync to the Photos app (I've never tried it), and whilst they can be copied via the kit they won't play in the Photos app - so they might not also play in Keynote, they may only play in the Videos app.

  • How do I import video from my camera?

I just bought Quicktime Pro (for windows) thinking that it would let me import video directly from my video camera. Apparently this feature is only for Macintosh. How am I supposed to edit video without a encoder that can encode into a supported format? I have windows media encoder, but that is no good since it only encodes to a .wmv format which is unsupported by Quicktime pro.... Is there a way around this problem? Can someone suggest a different encoder (a free one) that can encode from my DV camcorder to a supported Quicktime format? Thanks.

You need to bring your files from the camera into your computer. Windows Movie Maker can do that with your DV camera.
Once in you can convert the .dv files using QuickTime Pro.
