How do you connect Jetpack to a Time Capsule

How do I connect a Verizon Jetpack to a Time Capsule?  I currently use a Pepwave router to connect to my Jetpack via USB and to other networks via WAN over Wifi and create my own WiFi network.  Since I use the Jetpack more than WAN over WiFi, is there anyway to use the USB port on the Time Capsule for my WAN connection?

The Time Capsule needs an Ethernet connection at its WAN port to be able to function as a router with Internet access.
Unfortunately, the USB port on the Time Capsule can be used only to connect a USB printer or USB hard drive for additional data storage....or hard drive(s) and printer(s) if a powered USB hub is used.

  • How do I connect Airport Extreme and Time Capsule to my new iMac so that AE is used for network and TC only used for Time Machine backup?

I didn't realize that Time Capsule will only support the print function of a wireless multifunction printer.  So I want to use Extreme for my network to have full use of my printer and use TC as the Time machine backup only.  How to I make the connections?

Thanks for your response and this is getting complicated but I just purchased a new iMac as well as the Airport TC.  I've had the Airport Extreme for a year or so.  The Airport Extreme worked perfectly with my old iMac wirelessly and I had all functions of my printer with no problems.  I was expecting the same with the TC.  But the instruction that came with TC say to connect the printer to the TC via USB...which I did.  And the print function worked perfectly but nothing else.  In researching I discovered that when wired that way the TC only supports the print function...not scan or fax or anything else.  I tried going wireless since my AE worked perfectly via wireless but I got no printer functions at all that way.  But I'm wondering also if I tried that during a time I was having other issues...I had to delete and re-add my printer which solved some other problems.  I may try that again...and see if I can get all print functions with just the TC connected
As far as connecting both your AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule on your network, we're not clear on exactly how you want to do this.  Will the AirPort Extreme connect to your modem using an Ethernet cable and the Time Capsule connect to the AirPort Extreme using an Ethernet cable?.......or......do you want the Time Capsule to connect to the network using wireless?
Well... first of all I would like not to have to use the AE at all...I would prefer using just my TC for network, all print functions and Time Machine backup if that's possible. My printer will not accept Ethernet connections (Canon MX512).
After failing at getting this to work, I decided I would try to use my AE for net and print functions and just use my TC for Time Machine backup.  I tried several different connection configurations with no success until finally I connected cable modem to my AE via Ethernet and went wireless with the AE and printer. but connected the AE to the TC via Ethernet and amazingly everything worked like a charm (for a while) and I was patting myself on the back for being so smart.  But now I find that the connection only lasts for a short time.  If I leave it for a while the TC goes invisible...or at least I see a message saying the Ethernet is unplugged...but it is not... and I lose internet connection even though I have a green light on my AE. So now I'm at a loss. I don't know why I keep losing network signal and why my system thinks the Ethernet is unplugged.
So... after all this...I figured I wasn't so smart after all and I must have things wired incorrectly.
So... it sounds like you are saying I should go back and try again to get my new TC to work as I want it to via wireless instead of connecting via USB...is that correct?  Could you tell me exactly how I should wire my equipment from cable modem to AE and/or TC to achieve net capability, full functions of my printer and Time Machine backup...
    Thanks...

  • How can i connect plex app with time capsule

i have a time capsule 2TB and iphone 5s and ipad mini 2
i stored all my movies on the TC and i can acces them by imac and apple tv
i just bought plex for ipad and iphone and don't now how to connect to TC
i want play these movies by ipad by plex connected to TC but don't know how to
    please help

i just don't know to acces the TC with the plex app i tried several thing like port forwarding but can't figure it out
The plex app is a client.. you must be running a plex server in your network..
    https://plex.tv/ios
Since the Apple Time Capsule cannot host any media.. since it has no media extensions it is impossible to support plex server on it. You must run a plex server on a computer or intelligent device.. TC doesn't rate as it is a fixed router with nothing to help you.

  • How can I connect remotely to my Time Capsule now Mobile Me is gone?

    Hi,
I have a Time Capsule with a trio of external hard drives connected to it where I store all my files and backups.
In the past I used Mobile Me's Back to my Mac so that the USB volumes appeared in the shared area in Finder on all my Macs so that I could access my data from anywhere. Great... But...
Now that Mobile Me is gone, is there any way I can do the same with iCloud on a computer still running Leopard (and thus without an iCloud setup option in System Preferences)?
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!

Again, I thank you for your reply, 'LaPastenague'. I can't get over what a wonderful asset these communities are, especially for us eager to learn Apple newbies!
    In terms of my network:
Provided by my local cable company, it includes a 1TB Time Capsule that acts as router and host to a USB hub which holds 3 external drives. The internal TC drive stores my data. One of the external drives holds the Time Machine backups from my various Macs, the other two hold media and backups for my kids' PCs, etc. Also on my network is a 5 port switch to accommodate my kids' game consoles and an old networkable DVD player. On the network are also two Airport Expresses. One of the Expresses extends the range of my wireless to the upstairs and the other hosts an inkjet printer. And, finally, on the network is a TCP-IP HP laser printer.
I have played a bit with apps like LogMeIn and Teamviewer and found they work well for things like baling my folks out of technical difficulties remotely, but preferred the Back to My Mac solution offered by Mobile Me to (relatively) safely and (totally) seamlessly mount my Time Capsule's drives as volumes in the Shared section of my Macs' Finder. No fuss, no muss! ...despite Mobile Me's less than stellar reputation, it worked perfectly for me.
I went back to work this week at my job in education and, at first, privately cursed our IT department for bumping up security over the summer break resulting in blocking my home volumes from appearing. Then I realized, of course, that since last I sat at my desk, the Mobile Me service had be closed down and that was the real culprit for the loss of my mounted home volumes.
And, as established earlier in this discussion, my old iMac was never going to play nice with Lion or better to move up to iCloud, so I was going to have to go back to the drawing board.
I appreciate your eBay suggestion. However, although not a domain client, as my old iMac does reside on the school board's network, I'm fairly certain the VPN route would not be an option. I don't imagine building a secure tunnel to my data storage at home would be a priority to our IT department! <G>
USB Flash drives are a pain to sync and keep track of, but I guess that is what I will have to do for work.
    <sigh>
Once again, thanks for your help.

  • How can i connect macbook pro to time capsule via ethernet

I just purchased a Time Capsule to backup my MacBook Pro.  I tried to back up the files via wifi but it was taking forever.  I tried connecting the Time Capsule to the MacBook via an ethernet cable but it won't recognize it.  Any suggestions?

When you plug in by ethernet, make sure you plug into a LAN port on the TC... ie one marked.. <...>
Make sure the connectivity led goes on.. tiny light on the port itself.
On the MBP turn off wireless.
Make sure ethernet is set to auto .. check its status in network preferences.
Finally press and hold the reset button for 10sec to reset the TC.. that usually brings them back to life if it is acting up.
What OS on the MBP?? Lion and ML have issues finding the TC.

  • Can you connect to 2 different time capsules?

I have a time capsule airport extreme at home.  It connects to all my devices perfectly.  So, I bought one for the church because I'm there about as often as I am at home.  I wanted to use my airport to extend my existing wireless network at the church (which is working properly) and also use it as an external hard drive (like I do at home).  That way I can store all my files in two different places and not have to worry about carrying around a portable hard drive.  But it isn't working at the church like I wanted it to.  Maybe I set it up the wrong way, but it's been a while since I set the one up at home and now I don't remember what I did.

Apple routers can only wirelessly extend other apple routers.. so at home it might work if you have another apple router.. but not at church if you don't have..
You need to plug the TC into the main router by ethernet and bridge it.. then you can access over the main wireless.. or use a different wireless name on the TC and access it there.

  • Can you connect external HD to time capsule and use it as NAS?

I have a Time Capsule which I uses to back up my family's mac.  I also have an Airport Extreme to extend the range.  I have no problem reversing the function as to have the Time Capsule extend if need be.
My wife's old Power PC display took a crap, and we're thinking of getting the new MacBook Air.  Unfortunately this means space will be a premium.  We're wondering if it is possible to connect an external HD to either Time Capsule or Airport Extreme to use it as NAS?  We plan to move all our videos, mainly home video, and iTunes library to it and have the whole family access it from there.
There are few problems I might see.  While me and my wife share the same iTunes library, my little sister totally have different library.  I'm sure some songs overlaps.  Is there any way to consilidate this without having overlaps?  Also, is it possible to still organize it so I only have my current library sync to my iOS devices without manually managed music?
I have a few old HD from my macbooks that just sitting around.  One is 250GB and the other is 320GB that I'd like to see it getting some use if possible.

I can't answer all your questions, but what you propose sounds feasible.  You should find additional advice in this article.

You shouldn't have to.  Time Machine will delete them automatically when it needs room for new ones.  If you're running Leopard, though, and have the Warn when old backups are deleted box checked in Time Machine Preferences > Options, it won't.  Just remove the check and run a backup.
If you have other data on the TC's internal HD, that's going to cause trouble sooner or later.  See #Q3 in Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule for some possible workarounds.
If you still want to delete individual backups, or all backups of selected items, do not use the Finder.  See #12 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions, and note the pink box there.

  • How do you retrieve files from a Time Capsule backup that was made by a computer you no longer have?

I have a Time Capsule that has backed up five computers over the last six years.  Four of those computers I no longer have or the drives are not working.  I want to retrieve some old pictures from these backups. They are stored in large ".sparsebundle" files.

The first choice that you should consider is to use Migration Assistant on your Mac.
Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > Migration Assistant
The last choice would be to try the steps below that work for me......but there is no guarantee that they will work for you. Also, please be aware that there is always a chance that the backups for the Macs that you still have might be damaged in the process if things go wrong.
Proceed at your own risk. The advice mentioned below is worth about as much as you paid to visit this web page.
    If you wish to continue......
Pick one sparsebundle file from an "old" Mac and double click on it to see if that will mount the drive icon on the Mac computer that you have there. This will be a white "disk" icon, likely named Time Machine Backups, similar to the illustration below:
You may be asked for a password when you double click on the sparsebundle file. That might be the Time Capsule disk password, or it might also be the administrator password for the "old" Mac.
If you have made it this far, please report on your progress.

  • How to manually connect wireless clients on Time Capsule with Airport 6.1?

I'm having trouble setting up wireless access for an older Dell laptop and a wireless HP 4500 printer on a new Time Capsule wireless network. All of the workarounds that I've found (adding a client manually so no WPA password is needed; generating an equivalent network password, etc) and even the Time Capsule setup manual itself reference options in AirPort Utility that are not available up on my Mac running Mountain Lion. I've figured out that the AirPort for Mountain Lion must be the root of the problem--and I can see that there are 5.6 vs. 6.0 discussions. Clearly the 6.0 version has a whole new interface and advanced options don't appear readily available. Can AirPort 5.6 run on Mountain Lion? Or is there a another way to get to these manual settings so I can get these devices to just work?
It's a real bummer to have no information from Apple to update the Time Capsule user manual and help files for what obviously is a common problem in setting up a mixed wireless network.
    Thanks for the help.

You are right of course.. it is about time Apple updated Time Capsule both hardware and instruction for usage on v6 utility. I wonder if TC is doomed in the future which apple sees is all cloud.
You can load 5.6 into mountain lion.. you cannot run it as the application installer will fail. But it is still easy to get it working.
    Download the 5.6 package.
    Download unpkg http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/16357/unpkg
    Run unpkg
Open the dmg and drag the pkg file over to unpkg.. the 5.6 utility will be loaded to a directory on the desktop. Drag the file to your utility directory.. you only need the main file.
But it could be even easier to just download and install the airport utility for windows.. which will have bonjour for windows. Plug into the TC by ethernet.
Whichever way you do it.. change the TC name and wireless names to SMB compatible.. ie short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. no apostrophe.. that absolutely ghastly Apple invention.
Set a workgroup name in the file sharing. WORKGROUP generally
Set guest account to read and write.. at least initially as it is easier by far to get access.
I would also lock channels and if the computer uses 5ghz then give 5ghz wireless a different name.. The band swapping is only for Macs.

  • How do you set up the airport + time capsule to a win XP and 7 machines?

All my Apple products can connect just fine but none of my windows machines can access wirelessly. I tried different downloads but none of them seem to work any way for me to rectify this?

For those who are running Windows and controlling the Airport Base Station with Airport for Windows.  Apple just came out with a firmware update for Airport Extreme (7.7.2).  It so happens that this Firmware version requires Airport Software version 6.3 or newer.  The Windows version only goes as high as Version 5.6 or so.  I was also told that Apple is unlikely to upgrade this software.  To make a long story short you need to control (Configure) your Airport Base Station with an iMac, or an iPhone or iPad with the Airport app.  This solved my problems.  Good Luck :)

  • I can't connect my WD to time capsule

hello, i've a problem, my WD "my book for Mac" don't connect to time capsule usb port.
When i try to connect to time capsule, airport app tell me the following: Must repair the disk.
How i can connect my WD to time capsule??
    Best regards.

What TC model and firmware is it?
WD mybook are generally ok.. but the unpowered type will have problems.. you need a powered hub.
And some of the older TC will not handle all versions of some products.. WD keep changing them around.
It is often hard to figure out what works and what doesn't.
